#4 amuses me. When I think "assists", I think Magic and Isiah, not Nash and Stockton.

#69 Mos Def (http://stuffwhitepeoplelike.wordpress.com/2008/02/17/69-mos-def/)
In the olden days of white culture, people used to look up to Kings and Princes. These were the people that they adored, and every night they wished and hoped that somehow they could wake up and be just like them. But with Royal Families crumbling, that role has been filled by one man: Mos Def. He is everything that white people dream about: authentic (”he’s from Brooklyn!”), funny (”he was on Chapelle show!”), artistic (have you heard “Black on Both Sides?”), an actor (”he’s in the new Gondry film!”) and not white (”I don’t see race”).
He has done an amazing job of being in big budget movies (The Italian Job) and having one of his songs become a white person wedding staple (Ms. Fat Booty (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqbzy1tNSu0)) but still retaining authenticity and credibility.
If you find yourself in a social situation where you are asked to list your favorite actor or artist, you should always say Mos Def. This way you can name someone that everyone has heard of and you don’t look like you are trying to one up anybody. The only possible negative consequence is some white people might think “I wish I had said that first.”

Never has there been written a more true statement. Also, I like Mos Def

Fuck.

#44 Public Radio.

I love This American Life and I just popped off two direct quotes (cited of course) from NPR in a class I'm taking.

Damn it! I feel like Lauryn Hill in Killing Me Softly! THIS GUY HAS READ ALL MY LETTERS!!

Got the hot black chick in the class interested in me though.

I think white people make up most of "underground" rap's fanbase, while they also make up most of Fiddy and dem's fanbase. Weird.

The irony (#50 (http://stuffwhitepeoplelike.wordpress.com/2008/02/03/50-irony/)) is that I heard about the site on NPR (http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=33372288) in the first place.

#76 - Bottled Water

Fuck that, I dont even bother with the cup under the sink. I just turn it on and drink directly from the tap.

I'll continue reading these as I get time throughout my work day.

When I hear assist, I'd think of someone like Lidstrom long before Gretzky. I'd think of him for scoring, not passing.

White girls never go for asian guys. Bruce Lee and Paul Kariya’s dad are the only recorded instances in modern history

Based on my discussions with black friends as my only source of information, the only reason anyone raps anymore is as a hustle to make money. There's not the same kind of love for the art that there used to be, and people aren't exactly sitting on pins and needles waiting for that new Soulja Boy track to drop.

I think when the Southern rap thing exploded and everyone became aware that any illiterate goof could make millions by drunkenly mumbling catchphrases over a synth loop, it became hard to appreciate songs for their creativity or effort. What rock music went through in the 80's is what hip hop is going through now in the 2000's. It's a predictable phase of commercializing and oversexualizing everything no matter how empty of content it really is. There are no more Rakims out there any more than there is another Beatles waiting in the wings to be discovered. But there are tons of underground innovators that are going to feed the next decade's artists with inspiration to deconstruct and reinvent hip hop. Hieroglyphics may never become superstars, but then again neither did Sonic Youth.

If you do still love hip hop music with all your heart and soul, boy do I feel sorry for you. The era of Mike Jones, Rick Ross, Lil' Jon, Ying Yang Twins, 50 Cent, DJ Khaled, et cetera has not been good to you.

Reading just the list and not the pithy commentary, about 20% of those things apply to me. I'd ask myself if I was hopelessly white, but I think I know the answer to that. ;)

Seeing as how I wanted to go to school to study architecture, this list is a) funny and b) painful. But I do so love it.
