Come on Pistons, win one in front of me. I was glad to see the blowout yesterday, saving the starters from some tired legs tonight. I hope to see Sheed posting up Gaymart all night and Billups abusing AI/Ellis in the paint also. The key to this game is stopping their guards from penetrating. Billups and RIP need to post early and get them in foul trouble IMO.

FEAR JR SMITH

Did you guys know that in June 2003, when the Pistons had the #2 pick, Carmelo Anthony was still on the board?

I just wanted to let you guys know, just in case you hadn't heard.

"Shoulda taken Melo."

Nice call, Mo.

I've been playing ball with a couple friends from the Denver area all year, and both think the Melos are good enough to win a championship. Here's hoping we drop a 30 point loss on 'em to show 'em who's boss.

Final score prediction: 116 - 84

I remember that draft, it went something like this:

1) Jordan light, hometown hero for Cavs
2) The next KG, Cavs should take them but they'll overlook him
3) Some ball hog SF that isn't a complete player like Tay
4) Undersized center that is physically weak
5) Tweener guard that doesn't have a true position
6) slow center that played against weak competition

BTW, go back and read some of the comments on Darko and our other options here (click on their names):

darko was inevitable. no way out of that pick since i didnt want melo on our team.

But instead of delfino we shoulda drafted josh howard.

Darth Thanatos
02-25-2008, 06:26 PM
I have no doubt in my mind that LB would have had Melo in line. If not, just dump him for picks. Since Melo has serious game, I'm sure we would have gotten more for him than Darko.

Zekyl
02-25-2008, 06:55 PM
Redoing that draft, I'd take Bosh and one of the following:
Barbosa - Solid backup slasher PG
Howard - wishes he was Tayshaun, I believe his thing was "Disrespected" but I can't remember
Kapono - Excellent shooter, pure scoring off the bench
Mo Williams - Solid backup PG that could eventually be Billups successor

I'm keeping a list. A list of everyone who still brings up the 2003 draft. If I ever go postal you're all going down.

Pistons in a blowout.

We should've drafted LeBron.

Damn you Cleveland.

Do you know if he even came to Detroit for a pre-draft workout?? I'd like to see a list of the guys who we worked out prior to that draft.

I can't imagine Darko was THAT impressive compared to guys like Chris Bosh or even the buffer state Mike Sweetney...

Zekyl
02-25-2008, 09:15 PM
LeBron didn't work out for anyone, I don't think. The Cavs knew they were drafting him the instant they got the #1 pick.

Pistons playing pretty well so far. GREAT fast break after the steal by Billups. Nothing flashy, but they did exactly what they needed to do.

If Denver gives up 118 or more yet again tonight, Screamin' A better reconsider picking them to win the West.

02-25-2008, 09:36 PM
JR Smith...weren't we supposed to trade Flip for him?

Zekyl
02-25-2008, 09:36 PM
Glad we didn't. 60% of his shots are from downtown. It'd be like a second Jarvis Hayes.

Timone
02-25-2008, 09:37 PM
Better than letting Flip go for nothing (even though he sucked).

Zekyl
02-25-2008, 09:38 PM
Very true, but I think we'd have let JR go for nothing to sign DD if we'd made that trade. Someone had to go to clear that roster spot.

Timone
02-25-2008, 09:41 PM
I'd take a bench with JR and Dixon over Flip and Primoz any day.

We still need a big like Dale though, so you're right about that...

As much as I enjoy the pace of this one, they need to stop taking quick shots and bailing Denver's "defense" out.

LOL@ sheed having to remind Jarvis of where he was supposed to be yelling "high Jarvis! High Jarvis!"...

Also Hayes still sucks on defense. :(

Joey Crawford is disappointed to see the Pistons are going to win.

I'm surprised this was only a 98-93 game, after it appeared at the start it was going to be in the 100s.

Joey Crawford lets us play some D. Other refs would make Tayshaun throw his hands up the air (and wave 'em like he just don't care. Long hair.)

Chauncey almost fucked it up. Wanted to wipe that shit-eating grin off his face if JR made all 3 FTs.

That was a fun game to attend. AA and RIP did a pretty good job on AI for the most part. Stuckey shot well, but those passes were terrible. He just looks like he's pressing too much to make a play. I knew JR would choke on those FT's. I liked how Melo and Gaymart were whining at the officials all night.

Did the camera catch him tripping and falling on the breakaway? That was pretty funny.
