My opinion is fact, so this thread is futile.

All around, lebron, scorer kobe. I think both guys are douche's but they are the best in the league right now. KG may still be up there, hard to say at the moment.

WTFchris

KG is the best all around player, period. Just look at how the Celtics are suddenly playing good defense with guys that are notorius bad defenders. KG is a lot like Sheed in that he's unselfish, and that trait leads to underatting him a lot.

Kobe is a close 2nd IMO, and Lebron may be the best player in another year (as he improves his post game and 3 point shot).

I say LeTravel, simply because with the game on the line in the closing seconds, he'll be able to put his head down and drive. If anyone tries to defend him, the refs will blow the whistle; otherwise, he gets an uncontested dunk or layup.

it's got to be kobe. no doubt. and i don't like the guy but i'm just being honest.

he can score from anywhere at any time. he is clutch at the FT line or elsewhere.

AND he is showing he can sit back and let teammates score- he can set others up.

he's excellent defensively, and finally- he has a very high basketball IQ, something lebron still has a long ways to go to improve.

lebron is the most physically gifted though for sure.

I agree that Lebron is not quite to Kobe's level, yet. The only reason I picked KG is that he's a better team defender than Kobe (Kobe is a solid man defender but doesn't improve his team defense like KG does).

WTFchris
02-25-2008, 03:25 PM
My top 5:

1) KG
2) Kobe
3) Lebron
4) TD
5) nobody (Nash, Dirk, Wade don't play defense. Paul or Howard will be here soon though).

BubblesTheLion

Lebron is in Oscar Robinson territory.

Higherwarrior
02-25-2008, 04:33 PM
as great as KG is, would you put the ball in his hands with the game on the line? perhaps. but if you had a choice you would definitely put it in kobe's hands before KG's.

that to me is the difference. kobe can be a 'team guy' and a facilitator but he obviously can score. and most importantly he has a killer instinct and is extremely 'clutch'. i don't think KG has that.

not to mention, kobe's wife is ridiculously hot while i haven't seen KG's. ;o)

that's yet another reason i hate kobe actually.

WTFchris
02-25-2008, 04:55 PM
Most clutch does not mean best player. Billups is probably one of the top 5 most clutch players. Is he even a top 10 player? No.

Darth Thanatos
02-25-2008, 04:58 PM
KG, followed by Kobe. Best all-around player in the league. He's Superman at passing, scoring, defense, rebounding, etc. He's been the best defensive big man this decade(KG can actually defend good post scorers, unlike Big Ben). My only gripe about him is that he's too passive at times.

And for a guy who is in his twenties, LeBron James is a pretty smart player. Just wait until his 6th and 7th year when he learns more.

b-diddy
02-25-2008, 05:10 PM
kg missed the playoffs, what 2 , 3 times in his prime? his failure in the playoffs...

i just think that diminishes his luster, a little.

kg doesnt know what lebron does: its fine to coast through games that dont matter. lebron gets criticized a ton for taking time off. lebron is wise beyond his years.

WTFchris
02-25-2008, 05:11 PM
If KG played in the east I bet you he wouldn't have been missing the playoffs, and probably would have had a couple finals appearances too.

Higherwarrior
02-25-2008, 05:14 PM
where did i say that? read my posts. i never said 'most clutch' means best player. that was one of the tiebreakers.

if we're considering ALL aspects of what makes someone the best player, 'clutch' is one of the characteristics i look at.

Timone
02-25-2008, 05:54 PM
Kobe. Too many options IMO, because only an idiot would vote Nash, Paul, or Dirk.

Using this list:

1. Kobe
2. LeBron
3. KG

then everyone else.

I gotta say though, there are times when I think LeBron is the best.

Higherwarrior
02-25-2008, 06:14 PM
lebron is ridiculously talented and ahead of his time. for me, i can't consider him the best player until he improves his mid range and post-up game, his defense, and his end of game FT shooting.

also sometimes he's a bit more passive than he should be which isn't ordinarily a bad thing. but he needs a bit more of a killer instinct in some situations.

i personally hope he doesn't improve anymore but of course he will. he's so talented that he could dominate the nba with a very average supporting cast and potentially win a few titles along the way.

i don't think i've ever seen an athlete as physically gifted as him. he's built like a PF, has the athleticism of a SG/SF, and has the quickness of a PG. once he has another couple years of experience he will be head and shoulders above all the other great players. right now he's right there with them.

Darth Thanatos
02-25-2008, 06:16 PM
No love from anyone for the Big Fundamental?

I'd put Duncan 4th right after Kobe/Bron/KG. He's still the best post scorer in the NBA by a large margin plus a top 5 rebounder and defender. And he's one of the main reasons why Bruce Bowen still has a job in the NBA.

TD will go down as one of the most underappreciated players ever.

Timone
02-25-2008, 06:17 PM
Duncan is 4th on my list too.

Here's my list (it's a tie):

Jarvis Hayes

does anyone remember when the NBA used to do the 1on1 competition. I know Bob Lanier won it one year. It was a huge prize...like 10 weeks of elimination and the winner took all. I think it was 20 grand or something.

wow 20k, I guess that tells me how long ago that was.

Anyway, they should do that again. Kobe, Wade, LBJ.

Many believe both Chris Paul and Daron Williams, along with LeGone, are the next showcase players for the NBA.

How about Gasol. How about when Bynum comes back and Gasol can play the triangle as a power forward?

Duncan, most proven. (3 championships since 2000, 4 since 1999. 3 finals MVPs. The other 3 ships are Shrek teams).

Today: Kobe. More of a scorer.

In a few years: Manchild. Freakish body and flashes of "ahead of his time".

Yeah, I think people are looking at who they would want to have on a team for the next X years. This season, these playoffs, I think it is beyone silly not to pick Timmy. But LeBron and Kobe are fun, and maybe by "best" people are saying "best to watch" or "best to sell tickets".

Zekyl
02-28-2008, 01:10 PM
Were Duncan not injured and playing a little hobbled right now, he'd easily be a top 3 candidate with Kobe and KG. James is who I'd want to have for a long period of time, but he's not the best yet. He'll get there, but not right now.

How can you be more complete then Timmy? He plays great D, great O, uses the bank shot, does all the little things, plays team ball, can carry the team when needed (or could, not sure he still can, haven't seen much Spurs ball this year), does all the fundamentals.
