I intend to update this every day, so don't swat it...

Making the case that Orlando is a lock to be the 3 seed, (in which case BOS & CLE can bang it out in the semis)...

Orlando is 35-22

Cleveland is 31-24

Orlando has 25 games remaining, 6 Vs. teams over .500, and 7 within their division...

Cleveland has 27 games remaining, 9 Vs. teams over .500, and 10 within their division (3 of which are Vs. Detroit (3/19, 3/29, 4/16))

Orlando and Cleveland play eachother 2 more times this year (Mar 17, Apr 5), Cleveland won both of the previous meetings...

Orlando has 6 games Vs. the West remaining, Cleveland has 4, Orlando is 12-12 Vs. the West this year, Cleveland is 14-12

Toughest Remaining Games

Orlando- San Antonio (3/25), New Orleans (4/1), and the 2 CLE games

Cleveland- @ Boston (2/27), New Orleans (3/26), us 3 times, and the two ORL games

All things considered, Orlando is currently 3 games ahead of Cleveland...

Barring a key injury to one of Orlando's "somewhat-big 3", Orlando easily has the advantange to win the 3 seed

I hope somehow Cleveland rises to 3rd. I want to play the best teams possible in every round. No gimmies.

Fuck that. Are you kidding me?? We're talking about the Pistons, the most Jekyll/Hyde team in the NBA the last 5 years...

I don't want to deal with LeBron again. Give me Orlando, and give me fresh legs for the ECF...

Timone
02-23-2008, 04:31 PM
We haven't had fresh legs for the ECF since 05.

I know, playing a team with a backcourt that consists of me and you is exactly what the Pistons need to be fresh for the ECF, especially when you consider the fact that the starters are playing the lowest minutes they have ever played since they've became Pistons...

The formula to succeed this year is perfect if things fall into place. Look at Cleveland last year, they got the 2 seed, played a Wizards team w/o Caron or Arenas in the 1st round, and then played the 6 seed depleted Nets in the 2nd round...

I'd take a breeze in the first 2 rounds any year...

Timone
02-23-2008, 04:36 PM
A breeze would be lovely, but we have to assume Orlando actually wins a playoff series if they get the 3rd seed.

Not to say that even if they lost to a team like Toronto that we wouldn't beat the shit out of Toronto...

We are 2-0 Vs. Toronto this year, and they're going to be the 5 seed easily...

Washington, or New Jersey will be the 6 seed...

Timone
02-23-2008, 04:45 PM
We still could end up with the #1 seed and face Cleveland if they get the 4 seed in the 2nd round anyway, if KG keeps falling in love with the jumper and it doesn't fall and Pierce/Allen play as bad as they did last night more often.

Timone

Washington, or New Jersey will be the 6 seed...

NJ won't get in the playoffs, yet alone be the 6th seed imo.

And a healthy Washington could give Orlando some problems.

If we think the Pistons are as good as they've been hyped to be this season, we shouldn't be concerned about playing Cleveland anyway.

That's what we thought last season as well though.

We've had fresh legs for the ECF the last couple years. Didn't do us any good. Hell, Detroit won a chip in 04 after being battered and bruised by NJ and Indy for 13 games.

Are you a man? Because any man knows that competition brings out the best, not ducking.

Didn't look like it.

We struggled to break 70 against NJ and Indiana in 04. Didn't stop us then.

Stamina is just an excuse fans use to coddle their inferior team, much like blaming the refs or the chairman.

Timone

We struggled to break 70 against NJ in two games.

We didn't break 90 ONCE vs. Cleveland and we only did it once vs. Miami.

Plus, we had depth in 04. We didn't last year or the year before that.

Darth Thanatos

Except depth hasn't been our main problem. Our perimeter defense has been the biggest problem. Three years in a row a perimeter player(Ginobili/Wade/LeBron) has destroyed our defense.

Timone

Which usually became an issue after the starters were too worn out to stick with it on defense or no one to come in when they caught foul trouble. Kinda goes back to depth.

When you're bringing only Dice and Lindsey (who you can't rely on to score) off the bench, depth IS a main issue.

Not me. Orlando is no gimme. I would rather watch the Celtics and Cavs beat up on each other just so I don't have to go through two rounds of wanting to break my TV.

Thank you. Finally, somebody who agrees with me.

Fuck "playing the best competition". There are no style points awarded, nobody cares "how you got there", just get to the damn Finals, and anything can happen...

Well then that's something they're going to have to figure out. Every year the Spurs play teams generally better than the ones we play. Yet somehow, Tony and Manu's legs aren't completely shot. Why is that?

Because they have had a reliable bench that doesn't choke up a lead like Detroit's has the last couple years...thats whats different about this years team and last years, we have a bench that can not only hold onto a lead, but even add to it on some occasions...

i'd take a sweep every round. save the drama for the other series.

imo, we lost to cleveland last year in the chicago series, where we took our foot of their throats and turned a 4 game sweep into 6 games.

Can a Doc Rivers coached team tank 2 years in a row???

Answer: Yes.

CLEVELAND HAS NOW FALLEN TO THE FIVE SEED!!!

Toronto is the new 4, this doesn't affect anything matchup wise, the Cavs or Raptors would play Boston in the 2nd round regardless of who was the 4 or 5...
