So on the BBC they are talking about the Australian Prime Minister who just apologized to the aboriginal population of Australia for the practice of taking children from aboriginal parents to be raised "in civilization".

There have been heaps and heaps of terrible things that the US and every other government has done, so I'm not here pointing fingers or declaring evil. I'm asking what was up with that practice (that the BBC said was in effect till the 1970s), what was the motivation for it and such.

You know, the Canadians did this too. Basically they forcibly took First Nations children from their families and raised them in Christian institutional schools, and the practice didn't really stop until relatively recently. The Canadian government has had to disavow that practice as well.

P has been missing for months, sadly. We don't know where he is or when he's ever going to post again. We've attempted to get a hold of him and could not. Hopefully everything is well with him.
