View Full Version : Losing interest in basketball
MikeMyers 02-09-2008, 09:38 AM Last full game I watched was when the Pistons played the Celtics.
I do not care for watching any games. I find them boring. I don't even watch the Pistons anymore.
What happened?
Zip Goshboots 02-09-2008, 09:57 AM Basketball sucks, that's what happened.
Football has become a year round sport. There are alot of other things competing for the entertainment dollar and your time. For some reason, these sports leagues expanded beyond their ability to fill up rosters with talent. Young stars burn out too soon alot of times, and with 100 Million in their checking accounts. They get paid before they do anything at all.
Eastern basketball has sucked for years. I'm with the folks who think you gotta be at least competititve in cities like New York, Philly, and Boston.
Basketball is a fun sport to play. It surely sucks to watch. All it is is a ferry free throw shooting contest anymore.
Timone 02-09-2008, 09:59 AM I'll watch NBA ball, but that's it. College basketball bores me to tears.
I agree with Zip about it being a ferry three throw shooting contest now. One player getting 17 free throws is gay.
MoTown 02-09-2008, 05:23 PM I don't like college or pro basketball during the regular season. I'll watch it because I'm a sports nut, but pro basketball is extremely annoying during the season because no one really tries.
College is annoying in the regular season because all you watch is 3-point attempt after 3-point attempt. It happens in March Madness as well, but usually those teams are talented enough to have more to their game.
I love baseball because even though the playoffs is much more emotional, you can enjoy a regular season game all of the time. They really don't just take nights off. They can have bad games, but they try every night. Which is more than I can say about basketball, hockey and even football (not college).
Wilfredo Ledezma 02-09-2008, 05:49 PM I don't watch much college basketball during the regular season (usually just the last 3 minutes of close games I happen to stumble on while channel surfing on Saturdays OR if Michigan is playing). I just can't get into it really, it's NOT like college football, and their are way to many teams. Perhaps if Michigan were actually to be a decent team year in and year out, I would be more interested. But until that day comes, the only full game I'd might watch is the Final Four games...
Now the NBA, I love it more than most girls. I'll watch any game, any time, no matter the score (except watching the Heat on Christmas is really starting to get rather old)...
I never miss Pistons games on TV (unless I'm in class where I'm texting my friends for quarter updates)...
Watching a TNT Doubleheader > 2nd base with a girl
FillyCheezeSteak 02-09-2008, 05:54 PM I'll watch NBA ball, but that's it. College basketball bores me to tears.

I'm the exact opposite Mailman. I can't stand watching NBA ball because it's just a 1-on-1 fest and there are no "contested baskets." People just let the other team shoot and if they drive the lane they conceed the 2 points.
At least in college basketball you get 5 guys attempting to play defense and baskets are tough to come by. I think the pace of college basketball makes it a little easier to watch. I watched the Duke-UNC game the other night and it was a great game. Real tough battle between two good (not great) teams. And March Madness is some great basketball to watch and to put your money on.
Is there any reason to watch the Pistons until they get to at lest the ECF??
Timone 02-09-2008, 07:11 PM Filly, I understand where you're coming from but I don't think there's any reason to watch the Pistons in the ECF.
geerussell 02-09-2008, 09:18 PM Any time I start to take this pistons group for granted all I have to do is remember the 90s. Watching a good team that has a shot at the finals never gets old.
Darth Thanatos 02-09-2008, 11:31 PM The only team sports I watch year round is pro hoops, pro/college football, and baseball.
College basketball is fucking terrible. I agree with MoTown about the style of college basketball being a turnoff. Pass around the ball for 30 seconds then chuck up a shot. I also don't like March Madness because it's a giant gimmick. There's no way in hell 64 teams should be competing for a shot at the title, not even 32. Throw in the fact that parity takes out good teams and you have the worst tournament in sports. Why do you think the tournament gets LESS interesting DEEPER into the tournament? The only reason worth watching is because of pickem leagues.
Zip Goshboots 02-10-2008, 12:04 AM The ONLY sports I watch year round is pro hoops, pro/college football, and baseball.
Good one Archdiocese. Between those sports you mentioned, that's about 67,000 games a year. THAT'S not too much swports to watch.
Nice of you to limit your sports TV watching to only about 363 days out of the 365 day year!
Timone 02-10-2008, 12:06 AM That's it. I'm going to sprain my pinky so I don't have to post here for a week.
Jethro34 02-10-2008, 07:00 AM David Stern happened. Knowing that there is a man who will not rest until the NBA conference championships are Suns-Lakers and Celtics-Heat/Cavs (depending on whether his current flavor of yogurt is DWade of Lebron - somehow he'll find a way to get them on the same team if he can't build them into a classic rivalry), it's unsettling.

That's just a setup for the offcial Mailman Courageous(tm) Posting Thread.
Timone 02-10-2008, 09:13 AM While I am very courageous, I AM right handed. No playa can battle through a finger injury on their other hand.
