View Full Version : Question for those who drink wine (im retarded)
The Irony 02-04-2008, 11:16 PM ok so i found 6 bottles of wine in the closet of my uncles crib. he said its left over from the previous owners. from like 2000.
the bottles range in the years 1989 to 1992...i know wine can age, but he said he heard sometimes it can become toxic if u dont put it in a decent area...
so my question is:
can i drink this shit tonight?
Zekyl 02-04-2008, 11:32 PM Based on no knowledge whatsoever, yes. Haha.
RegicideGreg 02-05-2008, 12:18 AM Yeah the stuff will be fine. It isn't really that old as far as wine goes.
Tahoe 02-05-2008, 12:21 AM Just take a sip. If its like vinegar, then the cork seal was broken and it went bad.
But if it tastes decent then its ok...<--wait, WHAT?
b-diddy 02-05-2008, 12:29 AM its not like your going to go blind. pop a cork and taste.
im no wine connoisseur, but i like it and drink alot. 3 buck chuck is good enough for me though.
ps red wine is about the best thing you can drink, health wise.
anti aging, good for the skin, heart, fights cancer, will lose you weight. it goes on and on. if i were you i'd pour all other liquids in the house down the drain and stock up.
ive pretty much stopped drinking american beer, unless im stuck without alternatives. i would much rather drink a bottle of shiraz than a six pack of bud.
Glenn 02-05-2008, 03:47 AM Hopefully, it's cherry wine.
RegicideGreg 02-05-2008, 08:52 AM Naturally that video was the next step for this thread
Big Swami 02-05-2008, 09:05 AM The rule of thumb for wine is that the dryer and more acidic it is, the better it will age. So here are some wines that will age better than others, by general rule:
Shiraz (Syrah)
Cabernet Sauvignon
Merlot
Chardonnay
That isn't to say that a Pinot Noir or Sauvignon Blanc won't age well, but they require a lot more care to age well.
When I did IT for hotels & restaurants (around 2001 or so), I was offered a sip of a 1980 Chateau Lafite Rothschild, which was AMAZING. Wine that ages well becomes beautiful.

Fuck that hoity toity wine shit. If it'ws wine, chances are it's swill. Feed some to your wife or kids (or both). If they croak, then don;t drink it. If they live, shoot yourself.
Vinny 02-05-2008, 02:59 PM Wine can "go bad" but it generally won't turn toxic, it just won't really be drinkable. If the seal is broken or it has a bad cork, or it is stored at too high of a temperature, it can turn. You'll be able to tell from the taste. It won't kill you, it just won't be drinkable really.
Tahoe 02-05-2008, 03:03 PM It turns to vinegar, imo.
WTFchris 02-05-2008, 04:30 PM Give it as a housewarming gift or something.
Tahoe 02-05-2008, 04:35 PM My buddy gave a bottle of bad wine to his ex father in-law...as a parting gift.
Zekyl 02-05-2008, 05:00 PM Smooth.
The Irony 02-06-2008, 05:28 PM update:
either this corkscrew is wack as fuck or the cork is hella weak.
ive tried to open 2 of these and both times they fell in the wine :(
the merlot was ok
the cabernet sauvignon tasted like ass tho
4 more bottles to go..
b-diddy 02-07-2008, 10:32 AM drink merlot first and then cabernet will be fine. at this point the 4 other bottles could be turpentine and you'll still want to drink them.
cork is high in protein. drink up.
Big Swami 02-07-2008, 05:47 PM If the cork is falling apart, then the wine has long ago turned to vinegar.
Timone 02-07-2008, 05:49 PM Wait, wait...you're drinking wine without one of THESE?

Ok, I'm officially jealous, and I'm not even much of a wine connoisseur.
I've heard that stuff is just downright amazing, and I've never found anyone I could con into spending the big bucks.
b-diddy 02-07-2008, 09:45 PM we had sogno uno at a work party-- its a higher end wine. it was good, and i got smashed and wasnt hung over the next day. good wine and cheap wine, there is a difference. but after glass two it really doesnt matter.
Timone 02-07-2008, 09:57 PM ^ I drink sogno uno all the time, especially when I read through Harper's and Smithsonian.
b-diddy 02-08-2008, 07:34 PM do you actually read them?
Timone 02-08-2008, 07:35 PM I do.
Harper's is kind've like PBS, but there's no Barney (unfortunately).
Smithsonian is definitely for the intellectually elite named Webster Theodore Poindexter.
b-diddy 02-08-2008, 07:40 PM it was a bukdow reference.
Timone 02-08-2008, 07:41 PM I know.
