No more games coming out for it that I am looking forward to other than the next Bioshock/Mass Effect. That and I am taking up more reading. The plan is to pick up a PS3 after the next price drop or so.



We were glad to bring you the news of the $299 Playstation 3 yesterday when it was still very much under wraps. We have told you yesterday that there will be a new Playstation 3 model. This is partly true. The changes to the new Playstation 3 model are only aesthetic. The new Playstation 3 model for the United States is the exact same one that launched in Japan a couple months ago. The specifications are identical to that of the regular 40GB Playstation 3 available today in the US. Sadly this new 40GB Playstation 3 will have the same shortcomings as its older counterpart in the respect that it will be missing backwards compatibility and will have no memory-card readers.

The new Playstation 3's will be shipping to US retailers any day. From what we heard, the new consoles will be arriving to retailers Friday night this week, and will go on sale Monday. Demand is expected to be very high, but Sony is supposedly cutting down on supply of the new console.

The regular 40GB Playstation 3 will also be dropping in price to match its counterpart at $299, but sadly the 80GB Playstation 3 will only be benefiting from a $50 price-drop, to $449.99

As of Monday, January 28, 2008 there will be 3 Playstation 3 SKU's available in the US market.

40GB White Playstation 3 - $299.99 (missing B/C, 2 USB ports, and memory-card readers)
40GB Black Playstation 3 - $299.99 (missing B/C, 2 USB ports, and memory-card readers)
80GB Black Playstation 3 - $449.99 (software based B/C, 4 USB pots, has memory card readers)

No news on a 80GB Ceramic White Playstation 3 as of right now, but Sony is staying open to the idea. Their game plan as of right now is to move as many Playstation 3 units by March, 31, 2008 as possible, this has to do something with Warner's exclusivity deal, we'll get back to you on this as soon as we learn more.

Well... I just broke and bought a PS3 with Resistance, Assassin's Creed (which I will sell on ebay since I already played it), and MLB '08: The Show.

Resistance is good fun, nothing mind blowing, but a solid shooter. Plays even better as co-op. The online play is some of the smoothest because its hosted by Insomniac rather than you hosting it.

So I got real pissed off when all of the sudden there's these zombie-like fucks. Now, it wouldn't have pissed me off if the game was somewhat unrealistic from the beginning, but it was actually a believable plotline and such and then they bring those things out. I was all like wtf and then played for a bit longer, turned it off and haven't played it since. I will probably finish it Tuesday or Wednesday when I have a bit of time.

That twist was for the worst, in my books. I was giving it a 9 or say 9.2 out of ten up until that point...

weird I liked the twist, maybe you should put the spoiler in white. Either way felt very indiana jones in why those zombies showed up and what they really are. aka I liked it for all its worth and liked the change of pace it brought to the game.

dont know how much of the Zombie stuff you've done, but it flips back into the usual shoot em up element eventually.

Yeah, it did feel Indiana Jones-ish, but I was also getting quite a National Treasure vibe up until the twist, I guess I would have liked it more if it had kept going in that direction. I'm not too mad about it, but like I said I just would have been happier had it kept going in the direction it was. Technically the game is still very impressive.

I was debating whether or not to go for this... but I went ahead and decided against it because there's other things I want to buy right now, I am just having my ps3 fixed and buying MGS4. But then, there's this part of me that's not so sure... I might spring for the bundle tomorrow if I see it and sell my 40GB when it comes back.

That dualshock is nice to have back. Also let me say that MGS4 is so far feeling like the best game so far on PS3. But its too early to rate it on my end since i've only played a lil' bit of it.

Either way playing ps2 games again is actually pretty cool, because of that abomination Madden 2008 on ps3 and 360, i really really missed the ps2 version. hopefully this system data patch i'm downloading on pSN will give me the chance to play ps2 online too.

All in all i'm happy i was able to kill many birds with one stone(dual shock controller, MGS4, PS2 gaming, and more space). I also think this is going to be a big year for ps3 and 360. A chance for both companies to flex their gaming muscle.

Man they improved Metal Gear Online immensely from the beta. I actually was into it more this time. The aim felt better, the movement is a lil' faster. Only thing they need to patch up is a better more fluid exchange from when you roll to when you are back into normal stance.

Its still not anything to give COD4 a run for its money, but its a great bit of gravy added on to MGS4.

Pretty much an all around game, which is something you don't get from most games. In a way its a shooter, its also stealth, high presentation, tactical warfare, story, and options up the ying yang.

If you were even halfway into the other metal gears, then i shouldn't have to hype you. Hide Kojima has put together easily his best game of the series. They even made the online better than it was when i played the beta.

Graphics? Splendid. The level of detail into the characters down to the wrinkle and imperfections is extraordinary.

Also my favorite thing is choosing whether to sneak through battles or help out the rebels take down the PMC's. But not just that, there's plenty of options and and approaches to scenarios in this game. Weapons are highly upgradeable and the stealth element is fun again(it lost some of its luster in MGS3).

So far its the best game i've played on any next gen system. Beat out Uncharted even, and while COD4 has a better online(hard to beat them in that spot until maybe socom or killzone), the single player can't fuck with MGS4. Last time i played a game that i was into on this level was God of War 2. If Sony can get more exclusives to this quality, they'll start outselling 360 by more than the mere few thousand they've did this past month.

Either way theres too much hype for you to need me to get you hyped. I'll just break it down simply with my expectations were high, and so far i'm not disappointed.

VGChartz.com, reports that the release of Metal Gear Solid 4, combined with the $100 Playstation 3 giftcard offer at Walmart stores across the US, resulted in a 180% increase of Playstation 3 hardware sales in America this week. Metal Gear Solid 4 bundles sold out at most major retailers across the US with no confirmation of further shipments so far.

According to our data provided by retailers all over the world, Playstation 3 week to week sales are likely to more than double from last week on a worldwide basis.

Just feels better, presented better, the graphics are smoother and more correct to the players bodies in most cases. The road to the show is the best create your on career setup on any system.

But the biggest thing is that its the best sports game on any next gen system imo. So good that i'm somehow watching more baseball because of it.

Yes, it's basically a baseball version of the Madden Superstar thing. But its much better and gives you a far more epic journey. Here's an example in a review:

Well I think Role Playing itself is a part of all great games. Building a character as you step into his shoes via controller and a console.

I just made it to act 4. On the first 3 acts alone this game is the shiznit. Best game i've ever played is looking more and more likely.

Beat it over the weekend, may beat it again asap, because it was by far the best game i've played personally in awhile(i tried to play COD4 right after and felt a bit bored). I hate saying that because Moodini will accuse me of getting his hype genes going. I'll give minor reasoning, great story, the gameplay is smooth and i love the shooting while laying on your back, you don't have to sneak through every area if you dont want to, involving yourself in the battles is the shit, the weapons are ridiculously deep with full customization on some, the graphics on the characters are the best i've ever seen on a console period, tons of easter eggs(the scenes below are the result of using your camera in real time on the game, so yea those are in game technically), a great switch up of the gameplay for certain parts, really fun boss fights, and a good ending to the series. Its a game you should love whether you kept up with MGS series or not. If not PSN has a spoiler locked database to get you caught up or you can buy the essential collection with all the previous MGs games in it.

Do what all families do, put some dough to the side until you got enough to cut the price down to something that won't start a mean look. Or kiss alot of ass. Its your call. lol

Actually heard news of them getting some more in stock soon. But I have no idea if the deal is still available. I didn't have the free time to get to Wal Mart and fight people for one, so i just grabbed my full price pre order from game crazy(already paid for half of it over time anyways).

Let me also say that being able to still play ps2 socom online through my ps3 is fairly cool.

Sony To Give Away Tens Of Thousands Of PS3 Consoles

Following on from their success earlier this year Sony has decided to giveaway tens of thousands of PS3 Playstations in an effort to boost sales of their Bravia TV range prior to the Olympics.

The move which is being billed as "The Biggest Sales Promotion for the World's Biggest Sporting Event" will see Sony go head to head with official Games sponsors Panasonic and Samsung who between them are tipped to be spending over $8 million dollars on marketing activities during the games period.


The Sony promotion which was borne out of a similar promotion earlier this year that resulted in Sony grabbing 40% of the flat panel TV market over the December 07/January 08 period led to Sony suffering stock shortages.


The new promotion which is worth over $20 million will also result in Sony Computer Entertainment getting a big lift up against the Xbox and the Nintendo Wii as they will be able to count the PS3 giveaways as sales according to research group GFK.


It is estimated that Sony could end up giving away over 30,000 40GB PS3 consoles worth a recommended retail price of $699.


According to Sony insiders the promotion has been planned for several months and will apply to Sony Bravia models W3100 Series models, including the new V4000 and W4000 Series models. Also included will be the X3100 Bravia models.


The promotion which only runs for 321days during July is set to finish on July 31st and is designed to suck up any potential flat panel sales in the run up to the Olympics a move that could hurt other TV vendors in particular vendors like LG who are struggling in the flat panel TV market. Customers who have purchased a Sony Bravia TV have two weeks to register their claim at www.sony.com.au/ PS3countdown.


Customers will also need to post proof of purchase and a serial number to claim their PS3.
Every time a consumer registers a purchase, an online counter will automatically show many PS3s are left.
The official website goes live on Tuesday 1 July and Sony was unable to provide official comment today.

Yes, but I recommend you get the most out of GTa first, mainly because it could fuck up your mojo for GTA after you slide through MGS4. Hey Gutz, is the PS3 backwards compatible? Meaning does it play all PS2 games? How about PS1?

Older versions of the PS3 were backwards compatable. The first run ... <40gb> one's had both of the two chips you needed to run old PS2 games. The latter version <60gb?> ones had one of the chips so they ran some of the old games. The latest ones aren't at all I believe as they don't have either chip in them.

(Probably off on the models but that's the gerenal story. My brother made sure to get an older version so he could play his old PS2 games on it still.)

40 GB models are the only ones not backward compatible w/ PS2, I think. Still compatible with PS1. The rest are fully BC including 80 gig model..

60gb ps3's are as close to fully compatible as you can get, 80gb ps3's play MOST PS2 games(some of them have lag issues. 40 GB play no PS2 games, but its now a rumor going on that it could change with PS2 games looking to hit the PSN network at some point maybe. Hard to say though whether they will be available for 40gb ps3's, but sony did say they were exploring emulation possibilities to make 40gb ps3's able. But nothing is confirmed. But here's a list of what the 80gb can play, and which ones have issues. I have 5 ps2 games and only one of them(scarface unfortunately) is too glitched and lagged out play on 80gb Ps3. Socom games work perfectly on it.

Well there's no reality in which I trust Tre for definite info, Keith Nichols to Fall of PS3 theories it never turns out good. I will say that even when he's wildly wrong or doesnt know 2 percent about what he's saying, he's willing to poke his chest out in a seriously psychotic pride sort of way. To an extent you gotta partially kinda half way respect that kind of resolve.

Even better to hear, mainly because i hate to feel like i'm over hyping it when i say how good it is.

Also just picked up Assassin's Creed for 17 dollars, so i'll finally get to test it out.

AC's gameplay did get repetitive, but I still enjoyed the hell out of it for what it was (a gamefly rental). I probably would've thought less of it had I spent the full 60 bucks on it.

80gb PS3 will retail for $399.99 this fall. It'll just be the 40gb with more space, but theres also rumor that they are in the process of developing software to update those ps3's to ps2 compatible through emulation.

32 player online with a rotating style set up. Play body count(team deathmatch basically) and whoever gets mvp is the target in the next game of assassination where you have to protect them with everyone on the map able to see his location.

You kept it real with no weak knockout punches and never claimed anything crazy. In fact out of anyone you've asked the most honest questions about PS3. More power to ya for being able to own all 3 systems and do whatever you did to persuade your better half(even if it meant an extra 50 hours in the lover's dungeon). :P

The game is gaining some hype, probably Sony's best effort at a family mascot(Kratos isn't really for the family, though he is my favorite Sony character) to challenge Mario since Crash Bandicot(though he wasn't much competition).

LOL. 47 Gig? Well I suppose that's possible... there's multiple ways to check your allocations, but if you have an 80 gig, it really means there's about 77 or 78 gig, and the system software takes up a bit of space, so I'd say you really start with somewhere between 70-73 gig.

Just search around the cross media bar some and you'll be able to find it. Some games require installations so that's probably a part of it as well. Check the info on your game installs and videos, and that should probably add up to what's taking up your free space....

I am not by a PS3 right now so I can't tell you exactly. But hope I helped even though I'm not Gutz.

Either way if you want to double check to be sure how much you have, go to system settings>System information. Again like Ray said the game installs will take some space depending on what games you have(mgs4 takes 4gb, gta 3gb). If you are done with your game go to game data utility(not save data utility) and delete the install data of the game you're done with for good or for a long while. This will not delete the save data and if you find yourself re-buying the game months down the road, it'll just reinstall it and your saves will still be there. Either way I dont know how many games you have, how masny movies/trailers/psn games you've downloaded, How many demos you've downloaded(most of them are 700mb-1.6 gb), or how much music you've added. So it may be right depending on that. Whatever you've purchased downloading should always be available at your psn account(depending on whether you bought it, or rented a whole movie).

he lied, it's a 60gb if that's the reading or he removed the drive and put a 60gb in there.


Bright side-

You should be able to play all ps2 games if its the true 60gb.
It's a rare find to get one because you have alot of features they cutback on.

Gotta treat it better than most because it runs on a much warmer hardware system. Not setting it on carpet, no closed spaces(not even in an entertainment stand case), and keep it clean of course.

Again thats if its a true 60gb. If you want more space, you can buy another hard drive at some point. Either now to get it over with or later(by then you'll need to put your saves and media on a flash drive for transfer, though you can just redownload the downloaded stuff and reinstall the install data).

Finally broke down and downloaded that Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection PSN online fighting bundle. That coupled with Soul Calibur 4 are both going to hold me over well until Tekken 6 hits next year. Just played some shit talking psycho online. Felt pretty smooth.

MOLA1 needs a ps3 so that I can beat his ass in some Tekken online and make him break his recently bought controller. :)

V, have you been following Killzone 2's early review? It looks like the damn tits. Watch the intro in HD and tell me that shit doesn't rock. nope seems that is still hush hush. Best bet is to save up a lil further. Otherwise rumor mill sees the proce drop for April or june at the latest. But you'll get no official word from sony any time soon.
