Timone 01-22-2008, 12:58 PM Any tips on how I can actually GET MY FUCKING QUESTIONS ANSWERED?
Ask about Bibby and mention his tupe' like do.
Glenn 01-22-2008, 02:32 PM BUMP!
Timone 01-22-2008, 03:02 PM bump diggity
RegicideGreg 01-22-2008, 03:06 PM agreed bump
Timone 01-22-2008, 03:06 PM Fuck this, I left the chat. Keep me updated..........diggity.
Glenn 01-22-2008, 03:13 PM I have about 6 excellent questions in the hopper, maybe I can get one through.
Timone 01-22-2008, 03:13 PM Do you guys send questions before the chat even starts up? Would that work?
Zekyl 01-22-2008, 03:22 PM I've never even bothered trying to ask. He never answers the logical questions anyway.
MoTown 01-22-2008, 03:40 PM My question: (I wish there was a green text option, because the entire question would be green)
John, is there a formula to select a legit Most Valuable Player based on his stats for his team, compared to the rest of the team's output? I'm sick of all these MVPs being chosen from opinions of obviously biased individuals. It seems to me that you would be the only analyst that could come up with a legit and perfect way to find the NBA MVP.
Zekyl 01-22-2008, 03:52 PM I would laugh if he answered that. He probably would, the douche.
Got busy, couldn't be here. That's VERY good bait MoTown. I'm impressed.
Zekyl 01-22-2008, 09:49 PM I'm going to go ahead and guess he didn't answer any of your questions guys, as usual. Anything at all about the pistons?
Uncle Mxy 01-23-2008, 11:09 PM John, do you masturbate using Reverse Polish Notation?
Glenn 01-24-2008, 02:18 PM Jim (Detroit): Flip Saunders is finally listening to your advice Chad...Amir played well yesterday and Flip said he is now part of the rotation!
Chad Ford: (1:41 PM ET ) I've been spamming Flip ... nice to know he's been coming to the chats the past month. :)
Timone 01-24-2008, 02:19 PM Let's get an Evil John Hollinger up in hurr.
Glenn 01-29-2008, 01:54 PM http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/chatESPN?event_id=19026
MoTown 01-29-2008, 02:35 PM John,
Do coaches look at your PER ratings? It seems to me that it's so simple as to which players should see more court time and which shouldn't. NBA coaches just don't seem to be smart enough to realize there's a simple mathmatical equation for almost every important statistic, and if they'd go by those more often, they might win more games.
I'd bet all my alpacas (ever) that that gets answered.
Glenn 01-29-2008, 02:57 PM He's gonna cream himself when he reads that.
Only problem is, he might save it for himself to take home.
Glenn 01-29-2008, 03:15 PM LOL
Dave (Detroit): Should the Pistons try to deal for Cassell to put them over the top? They have a bunch of expiring contracts and draft picks.
John Hollinger: (3:14 PM ET ) Remember, Brezec and Herrmann can't be included in a package until after the deadline, so that about sinks that possibility. So Detroit can only cut a deal if they're willing to create a hole at another spot.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dave (Detroit): No, Brezec and Herrman can be included in packages starting Feb 14 (two months after Detroit got them) - the deadline is 10 days later.
John Hollinger: (3:17 PM ET ) Thanks Dave. The drawback of rapid fire Q&A is I don't have time to check this stuff so I'm going from memory. Here's the other snag -- Detroit has to give LAC something besides an expiring. Is it worth giving up a first-rounder to have Sam play 10 minutes behind Chauncey in the playoffs? Not sure on that one.
Timone 01-29-2008, 03:19 PM PWNT
Glenn 01-29-2008, 04:00 PM John Hollinger: (3:43 PM ET ) I was watching them against Dallas last night. Man, they are a soft, soft team. It's not just Pau, it's darn near everybody. Darko has been a bust, Conley hasn't been in the lineup, and Iavaroni hasn't improved the D at all. That said, if they got a tough guy in the paint they might look a whole lot better.
John Hollinger: (3:47 PM ET ) Every week I get a question fro a Jazz fan about getting another interior defender. Obviously, Okur has been a huge disappointment, but you're not going to get somebody appreciably better than Jarron Collins without giving up something genuinely valuable, so I'm not sure if the cure is worse than the disease at this point.
John Hollinger: (3:58 PM ET ) Miles has quietly had a nice year -- I would have put him on my sleepers list except I don't think he's going to play much now that Korver is there. That said, I'm not sure it translates into any real trade value. Similarly, trading Okur will likely only get you somebody else's disappointing center. This is why many more trades are discussed than actually executed.
Uncle Mxy 01-29-2008, 09:53 PM The split between Memo's home and road play is frightening:
Home: 30 mpg, 14 ppg, 6 rpg, 43% FG (44% 3P), .8 bpg
Road: 30 mpg, 10 ppg, 4 rpg, 38% FG (28% 3P), .1 bpg
Glenn 04-14-2008, 03:02 PM 4 PM (http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/chatESPN?event_id=20192)
MoTown 04-14-2008, 03:32 PM John,
Can you think of a better playoff system using statistics and numbers? I feel the playoff system is very obsolete now. The best teams don't make the playoffs, especially when I look at your PER and team statistics. Is there a way that team record could be forgotten, and your statistics could show the top 16 teams in the league that should make the playoffs?
Glenn 04-14-2008, 04:03 PM It's Happening.
Also, that's awesome, Mo.
Wilfredo Ledezma 04-14-2008, 04:13 PM Chris, Chicago: MVP is settled. Kobe. Throw out those wack PER Stats.
SportsNation John Hollinger: (4:10 PM ET ) I think Kobe will end up winning as a result of this weekend, and it won't be the worst vote ever. There were four high quality candidates this year; of the four I thought he was fourth.
WOW! GOD DAMNIT THIS GUY IS A FUCKING RETARD!
Wilfredo Ledezma 04-14-2008, 04:15 PM James (LA): Hey Mr. Hollinger, your playoff predictor has the Jazz the team in the Western Conference with the best chance to go to the finals and become champs? Can you explain that?
SportsNation John Hollinger: (4:16 PM ET ) Cliffs Notes version: The playoff odds are built off the power rankings, and Utah has the West's top power ranking, so they're seen as the team with the best chance of making it out.
Wouldn't that prove his shit is flawed?
Glenn 04-14-2008, 04:21 PM I just popped my collar.
WHATEVER THAT MEANS
Wilfredo Ledezma 04-14-2008, 04:30 PM Congrats Glenn, you got to chat with John Hollinger today.
Glenn 04-14-2008, 04:31 PM Kinda makes it a great day.
Glenn 04-14-2008, 04:50 PM Lots of Spurs hate, greatest chat ever.
Al (Denver, CO): How about Gasol's defense on Timmy yesterday? Case of Timmy on an off night or did Gasol do well?
John Hollinger: (4:46 PM ET ) Not sure if you saw my blog item at the end of last week, but San Antonio's offense is in a major, major funk. Great win for L.A., but that's the big story for me out of that game (just like it was from the Phoenix game last week).
Travis, SLC: Do you think the Jazz (assuming that they should win tonight) can go to San Antonio on Wednesday and lock up the 3rd seed? They haven't won there in 9 years.
John Hollinger: (4:50 PM ET ) I think they absolutely can -- San Antonio has looked terrible lately and Ginobili might not play.
Glenn 04-14-2008, 04:52 PM Damn, I asked two Stuckey questions to no avail.
Jim (ATL): How in the world did the Hawks choose AC Law over Rodney Stuckey?
John Hollinger: (4:53 PM ET ) Here we go again ... I think Law will eventually be decent, but man, Stuckey looks really good.
Zekyl 04-14-2008, 05:03 PM Glenn, what was the question you asked that got answered (I was in class and couldn't follow the chat).
And who are his 4 MVP Candidates? Kobe, LeBron, Paul, Garnett?
MoTown 04-15-2008, 11:25 AM I asked why John doesn't consider DUI's in his PER.
He doesn't answer any of my questions. What a cunt.

Glenn 07-01-2008, 03:10 PM It's go time.
I'm late, but I threw one out there.
He's not biting on Larry Bird + autism rips.
Brandon (Shreveport, LA): Do you think the Mavs will try to trade Howard? What do you think of a Dirk-Howard for Maggett-Brand in a sign and trade.
Man, that guy is on WTFLA right now celebrating.
http://assets.espn.go.com/i/sn2.gif John Hollinger: (3:28 PM ET ) I think Posey will end up being this year's biggest free agent mistake (if Udrih isn't). Midlevel is way too much for a player of his caliber, and four or five years is ridiculous for a 31-year-old role player.
Glenn?
Glenn 07-01-2008, 03:29 PM He's not biting on any of my gems, either.
Glenn 07-01-2008, 03:30 PM Glenn?
How can I help you?
Glenn 07-01-2008, 03:32 PM I agree, the MLE is too much for Posey.
Is that what you were expecting?
Glenn 07-01-2008, 03:37 PM I'm confused, but still enjoying the chat.
Craig (PA): You talk about all these non-contenders but not the Lakers. Anything on LA's offseason and the possibility of an Odom trade for a true SF, like Artest?
Maybe I should trying being an arrogant fuck.
Glenn 07-01-2008, 03:42 PM You love Udrih!
Not really, where are you getting that?
I just think he's going to get paid.
You raved about him all fantasy league.
Jimmie (Atlanta): Realgm is reporting that Josh Smith will sign with the 76ers for 5 years and $55 million. Please tell me that my hawks will match!!
WTF?
Glenn 07-01-2008, 03:46 PM They'll match or try to get Iggy back in a S&T.
Glenn 07-01-2008, 03:50 PM They'll match
And if they don't, then you might as well fold up the tent and move them to Vegas.
They just started to build an exciting team and took the champs to 7 games.
They'll lose the few fans that they have if they let Smith walk for nothing.
WTFchris 07-01-2008, 04:08 PM They will match. But every penny they spend on Smith means they might not match a Childress offer.
Zekyl 07-01-2008, 04:27 PM They will match. But every penny they spend on Smith means they might not match a Childress offer.
I like that. Maybe they'd be forced to S&T him, what would we give up for Childress?
Glenn 07-01-2008, 04:32 PM I like that. Maybe they'd be forced to S&T him, what would we give up for Childress?
Signing and trading Childress doesn't save them any money, though.
If they are going to spend that cash, they might as well give it to Childress.
Vinny 07-01-2008, 05:50 PM Did we all miss this part?:
Jimmie (Atlanta): Realgm is reporting that Josh Smith will sign with the 76ers for 5 years and $55 million. Please tell me that my hawks will match!!
Zekyl 07-01-2008, 06:47 PM Well, we can give them an expiring (do we have any to give?) or give them back slightly less than they give us. I'm really not sure. I guess we could just try to sign him and see if they match. I'd throw the whole MLE at him.
WTFchris 07-02-2008, 09:53 AM Maggs might be forced to take the MLE as well. It's a good time to be looking at MLE wings (if Joe is).
Cross 07-02-2008, 10:54 AM hes going to get offers frmo bosotn, spurs, and magic.
the spurs and magic can give him the most PT. i doubt he comes here for the full MLE
Atticus771 07-02-2008, 03:23 PM If Maggs is smart, he will come here for the full MLE. That would make us instant co-favorites with Boston, IMO.
Glenn 07-02-2008, 03:25 PM If Maggs is smart, he will come here for the full MLE. That would make us instant co-favorites with Boston, IMO.
Who's minutes does he take?
Hermy 07-02-2008, 05:39 PM Who's minutes does he take?
PLAY ALONG WITH ALL THE STUPID ASSHOLE!
WTFchris 07-02-2008, 06:11 PM Who's minutes does he take?
Hayes and Hunter I guess, but that's not enough.
This is what I see for my ideal minute breakdown:
PG Billups (32)/Stuckey (16)
SG RIP (32)/Stuckey (14)/MLE (2)
SF Tay (32)/MLE (16)
If the MLE player is more marginal than you can cut the minutes from 18 to 15 and give the 3 starters an extra minute.
Atticus771 07-02-2008, 08:50 PM Who's minutes does he take?
My bad. I was thinking we'd swing a trade after signing him.
Glenn 07-03-2008, 09:12 AM My bad. I was thinking we'd swing a trade after signing him.
That's a remote possibility I suppose. But convincing him to sign here by promising that you'll make room via a trade is a tough sell.
If you are Joe D, would you make that kind of a promise to a free agent without having a deal for Rip etched in stone?
Glenn 07-08-2008, 03:31 PM http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/chatESPN?event_id=21378
WE RIDE TOGETHER!!
Glenn 07-08-2008, 03:34 PM Darnell (Otown): Things have been very quiet in Detroit. What do you see them doing?
John Hollinger: (3:19 PM ET ) Staying quiet ..., until mid-August or so. Look, usually the trades don't happen until the free agent frenzy is done and everybody sees what they have. I know this is driving Pistons fans crazy while they wait for the other shoe to drop, but you probably need to hang tight for at least another month.
Glenn 07-09-2008, 12:57 PM David Fairborn, OH: Do you like Jason Maxiell? Check Yes or No.
David Thorpe: (12:56 PM ET ) Yes.
Thorpe's fucking with me.
I sent him about 6 different messages about mad max eating babies and he ignored them all, then he answers this one.
Atticus771 07-09-2008, 02:50 PM Thorpe's fucking with me.

Atticus771 07-09-2008, 02:56 PM Yep. I only wish my future career (high school band director) afforded the same opportunities.
Glenn 07-14-2008, 03:48 PM This thread got a name change, btw.

Glenn 07-15-2008, 12:20 PM Another chat today at 3 pm, but here's John with Chad Ford to tide you over: http://sports.espn.go.com/espnradio/player?context=podcast&id=3481590
Glenn 07-15-2008, 03:49 PM Anybody know what happened to the Hollinger chat?
It was on the schedule this morning for 3pm and now...nothing.
Hermy 07-15-2008, 04:07 PM Anybody know what happened to the Hollinger chat?
It was on the schedule this morning for 3pm and now...nothing.
I'll call him.
Glenn 07-15-2008, 04:12 PM Let me know what his message sounds like.
Actually I was just wondering if someone was aware if it was just cancelled or if he was fired or something.
WTFchris 07-15-2008, 04:40 PM He got wrapped up in his favorite game:
http://img174.imageshack.us/img174/8092/numkt7.jpg
Zekyl 07-15-2008, 05:43 PM Super Munchers? I used to have that game when my parents had a Windows 3.1 Packard Bell computer.
WTFchris 07-15-2008, 06:09 PM He's probably got the original number munchers on the Apple IIe. That's what we played in elementary school.
Zekyl 07-15-2008, 06:13 PM I may have to steal an external floppy drive from work to hook to my new mac so I can play that game again.
Same with Oregon Trail.
WTFchris 07-15-2008, 06:14 PM Yeah, we had number munchers, Oregon Trail and that typing game. All on this beast below:
http://www.scottwnelson.com/images/oldcomputers/AppleIIeDD.jpg
WTFchris 07-17-2008, 03:30 PM I finally found a decent Hollinger article:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/columns/story?columnist=hollinger_john&page=Posey_Hornets-080716
I am fucking shocked. PER is found nowhere in that article.
Zekyl 07-17-2008, 05:34 PM I couldn't agree with him more. He's right on every standpoint.
WTFchris 07-17-2008, 05:58 PM Must be an imposter

http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/chatESPN?event_id=21613
omigod!
Glenn 07-22-2008, 02:38 PM A couple of Pistons-related ones.
Don (Edmond, OK): Do you think C. J. Miles is a good pickup for OKC or did they overpay for him?
John Hollinger: (2:38 PM ET ) Loved that move, and love how the TBDs are focusing on body-snatching while they rebuild. Miles played well last year in limited minutes and is still quite young.
Matt (Grand Rapids): I've heard for 3 years now that Amir Johnson is going to take his game to the next level and be a very good NBA player and it doesn't seem to happen. I know he is young but are you a believer in him getting better or is he always going to be a defensive player that can jump out of the gym but is limited offensively?
John Hollinger: (2:39 PM ET ) Well, the issue right now is that they won't play him, which supposedly is one of the things that got Flip Saunders whacked. His per-minute numbers have been very, very, very good.
WTFchris 07-22-2008, 02:39 PM More on Smith:
Jared (Atlanta): Hey John, Hawks fan here (yes, we do exist). Do you now see Josh Smith staying in Atlanta next year or will the ridiculous ownership situation cause him to split?
http://assets.espn.go.com/i/sn2.gif John Hollinger: (2:16 PM ET ) He wants to split, but he wants to get paid too. I think he'll have to choose one, and the smart money is always on the latter.
A sure fire way to get on (mentioning PER):
Jay Toronto: The raptors swingmen position is really worrisome to me. Parker, Moon, Kapono all had average or below Average PER last year. I know you were high on Hassan Adams - but can the Raptors make the secound round with so little at the 2 and three?
http://assets.espn.go.com/i/sn2.gif John Hollinger: (2:18 PM ET ) I'm less worried than you -- even last year they were a real good offensive team, they just didn't D that well, and the 2s and 3s were among their best defenders (well, except Kapono). I'd be a little worried about Parker's age and I'd try to convince Kapono that the is more of a weapon if he actually attempts a few instead of always stepping in, but I don't see these spots as giant red flags.

WTFchris 08-19-2008, 12:40 PM Will Kwame have a higher PER than Ratliff?! I must know.
Zekyl 08-19-2008, 12:50 PM Was Sheed's PER higher when he was playing PF or C? This is important shit, Hollinger!
Uncle Mxy 08-19-2008, 08:42 PM Was Sheed's PER higher when he was playing PF or C? This is important shit, Hollinger!

Glenn 08-19-2008, 09:02 PM I missed the chat.
Highlights?
Zekyl 08-20-2008, 12:07 AM Wait, Sheed is better as a C?
Cross 08-20-2008, 11:27 AM Baseball Fan (Detroit): So, is Detroit "stuck" with their lineup? Or will Dumars really be able to make a big trade?
John Hollinger: Patience, we still have two and a half months until opening day. The Kwame Brown signing, to me, is a telltale sign that Joe D is looking to move a frontcourt player (likely Sheed).
Glenn 12-02-2009, 01:13 PM 2 pm if anyone cares
http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/chat/_/id/29669
Glenn 12-02-2009, 02:42 PM I fired a few q's at him, but no dice. This is the only Pistons question so far.
Mike (Detroit)
Do you see Detroit making the playoffs if they can get Hamilton and Prince back by the end of the month? And, in some respects, would it almost be better for them to miss out and get a high lottery pick that could turn into a franchise-type guy (because Stuckey is quite obviously not what they stubbornly thought he would be)?
John Hollinger (2:42 PM)
I actually think Detroit's had a pretty good start all things considered. I never would have guessed they could withstand this many injuries to core players and still stay in the East playoff hunt. Granted, that's partly because the East is a joke this year, but still... As far as your franchise guy in the lottery, remember that it really only improves their position a couple spots. No. 8 seeding the East will pick 15th, a lottery season puts them, say, 10th-14th with little to no shot at the top three. Not worth tanking for that.
Glenn 12-02-2009, 02:45 PM Dustin (Austin)
Gotta ask, who you taking for college football championship?Florida, Alabama or Texas!?
John Hollinger (2:44 PM)
Usually I just root against the BCS, since I find the whole thing convoluted and idiotic. They want the validation of a computer ranking but also want to dictate what the ranking ought to be ... I keep rooting for a game that absolutely nobody thinks matches the two top teams, so this year I was really rooting for Cincy-Iowa or Georgia Tech-TCU. Alas, that will have to wait for some other year.
Kinda surprising that he hates the BCS.
lol
He hates it because it corrupts the computer rankings.
What a douche.
WTFchris 12-02-2009, 02:52 PM I bet he just wants the computer rankings used period.

Glenn 02-18-2010, 01:09 PM Byron (Toledo)
Ah, Darko. Does any team's fan base feel worse right now than Detroit's? We're terrible and have no assets. How did this happen?
John Hollinger (12:31 PM)
Basically, Dumars traded the wrong guy and extended the wrong guy. If he'd traded Rip and Tay and extended Billups everything would be fine. Instead, Pistons are a total mess. Doesn't look like they'll get anything done today either.
WTFchris 02-18-2010, 02:53 PM If he thought Stuckey was a SG he might have done just that.
Uncle Mxy 02-18-2010, 03:00 PM Did Dumars ever think that Dumars was a real PG?
WTFchris 02-18-2010, 03:06 PM He must have or he wouldn't have traded Billups. Then again now he's saying positions are antiquated. I think he thought RIP could still improve and Billups would be winding down soon.
Then again, I have no idea what he's been doing since February 19th 2004.
Zekyl 02-18-2010, 09:37 PM Traded the wrong guy, extended the wrong guy, drafted the wrong guy. Three guys that should be Pistons are starting for Denver.
GrantBell 02-19-2010, 12:17 AM How many men has Hollinger plowed? Would do the statistics say?
Pharaoh 02-19-2010, 05:53 AM Traded the wrong guy, extended the wrong guy, drafted the wrong guy. Three guys that should be Pistons are starting for Denver.
And that's the whole fucking point.
Denver's record is ....WHAT?
Our record is....WHAT?
We coulda, shoulda, woulda but didn't and now it's shit-o-rama until the Draft.
Thank fuck the fotty season here starts in approx 20 days.
Black Dynamite 02-19-2010, 10:17 AM Traded the wrong guy, extended the wrong guy, drafted the wrong guy. Three guys that should be Pistons are starting for Denver.
The power of hindsight can make you legitimize your perception on this as it were something you tried to call out.
Uncle Mxy 02-19-2010, 12:20 PM Traded the wrong guy, extended the wrong guy, drafted the wrong guy.
I'd add: Signed the wrong guy.
BG isn't $55 million dollars-good, and he wasn't getting those offers from other teams. FA was what made taking the risk on AI worthwhile. Even if it didn't work, we still had the potential to swing a big dick around in FA. The closest we got to "big dick" in free agency was "premature ejaculation".
Glenn 02-19-2010, 01:21 PM I'd add: Signed the wrong guy.
I hope every player on the team gets badly scorched in a lockerroom fire. You would deserve it.
Who even watches that team anymore?
