View Full Version : Jick Boy 34's UM Hockey Thread
Zip Goshboots 01-19-2008, 08:25 AM Well, with UM hockey ranked #1 rolling, it is time for a thread dedicated to the Winged Helmeted Icers. This is a real, real good team. Great skating and pasing, and great finihsing ability. I've seen alot of highlights.
The problem I have had in the past with these supremely talented UM teams is that a goalie who is hot can stone them, and they have had the propensity to lose some intensity if they don't jump out to a lead or get behind.
However, this Notre Dame game shows a different attitude. Check out the highlights from Mgoblue.com. On the right side of the page, hit ice hockey highlights in the multimedia deal.

Jethro34 01-19-2008, 10:17 AM Solid. Team has a ton of freshmen as well. Plus, they're doing this without guys like Johnson - who left for the NHL early.
Better yet, they've got RRod in their corner and apparently they're respected enough around campus that football recruits are showing up at their games.
If football and hockey could just rub off on hoops. Guessing it will be quite a while before we have a sponsored hoops thread. We may have to wait until someone else with a 34 in their name gets on board.
Zip Goshboots 01-19-2008, 07:34 PM We have to get this thread going, so here is Rich God doing an interview during a hockey game!!!!!

Zekyl 01-20-2008, 11:49 AM I wish I got to see more Michigan hockey. I've only seen one game so far this season. The only time I ever get a chance is when I'm visiting my parents and its on the Big10 network.

Fucking hilarious
Zip Goshboots 02-02-2008, 11:31 AM Well, Michigan had a chance to make up some ground on idle Miami last night, but managed only a 3-3 tie with Northern michigan. An added bonus is that my boys from Omaha knocked off the Sparties in overtime, 5-4.
FillyCheezeSteak 02-02-2008, 12:21 PM The reason that we tied a bad NMU team is that we decided to play our freshman goalie and give Sauer a day off. The backup hasn't played since December and Red wanted to make sure he was still able to go if we had to play him for any reason. When you play your backup goalie in college hockey you are always happy to walk away without a loss.
Zip Goshboots 02-02-2008, 12:53 PM Well, they almost came away with a victory, but it sounds like NMU scored with about thirty seconds to go on a 5 on 3 powerplay. It weems that UM's offense has hit a speed bump, scoring only three goals against Spartina, and only three against NMU, and all those games at home.
I know Spartina plays the way their fans yap: annoyingly. Clasp, grasp, hold, and make the game look like it's being played in quicksand, but they should still be able to put more than three goals up against Spartina, and score more than three against the lowly (whatever the fuck a Northern Michigan team is named. The Iceicles?)
Glenn 02-02-2008, 12:58 PM I think they are the "Holy fuck it's so cold outside I'm gonna just stay inside and masterbate-rs" (sometimes known as the "Fighting Holy fuck it's so cold outside I'm gonna just stay inside and masterbate-rs")
Jethro34 02-02-2008, 07:48 PM Hey, at least they didn't have the best or worst start in team history on the line.
Darth Thanatos 02-23-2008, 05:42 PM Got beat up by Spartina the other night. Our #1 ranking. :(
Jethro34 02-23-2008, 11:19 PM Got them back by the same score tonight.
Jethro34 03-28-2008, 09:15 PM UM up 2-0 after 2 periods in first round action tonight.
FillyCheezeSteak 03-29-2008, 08:43 PM We won 5-1 and I believe Kevin Porter secured his Hobey Baker status with a Texas Hat Trick. I don't follow college hockey a ton, but if Porter doesn't win the Hobey Baker than the award isn't quite what I thought it was. Michigan takes on Clarkson in the regional final with a trip to the Frozen Four on the line.
In other college hockey news............Sparty dodged a huge bullet as Notre Dame upset #1 seed UNH and gave the Spartans a clear path to the Frozen Four as MSU should beat Notre Dame quite easily. Does anyone know if Miami (OH) won because it was speak volumes about the CCHA if we had 3 teams in the Frozen Four.
Jethro34 03-29-2008, 09:11 PM Miami won and I think won again tonight. Michigan is winning 2-0 halfway through the 3rd in tonight's game.
Jethro34 03-29-2008, 09:41 PM Ok, it's official. Michigan beats Clarkson 2-0. To follow up the Texas hat trick, Porter was a part of both goals tonight with a goal and an assist.
Other winners tonight: North Dakota, Miami (OH) and Wisconsin.
Boston College leading Minnesota 2-1 and MSU plays Notre Dame at 10:00. The Midwest and Northeast brackets started a day later, so they're playing to make it to the round of 8, while UM is in the Frozen Four along with the winner of MSU-ND. Miami would still need to beat the BC-Minn winner to go to the Frozen Four.
Moodini31 03-30-2008, 02:09 AM Texas hat trick? Is hockey even played in Texas?

Very Ledezma-ish
Jethro34 03-30-2008, 06:53 AM I smell sarcasm, but it might be good to clarify for those afraid to ask. Hat trick = 3 goals. Texas hat trick = 4 goals.

Thanks for the jinx.
And Miami is in the 8 now, just needs to win today.
