View Full Version : OGT: Pistons @ Spurs (1/10/08, 8 PM EST, TNT) Wilfredo Ledezma 01-10-2008, 04:01 PM Bounce back Game... I just want a win... Timone 01-10-2008, 05:37 PM Bleh. Glenn 01-10-2008, 06:02 PM We gon' git torched. Timone 01-10-2008, 06:05 PM The Pistons usually play the Spurs tough in SA. They usually lose though. Don't expect it to change tonight. 88-84 SA. MoTown 01-10-2008, 06:23 PM Where's the poll with multiple options? Fuck it, I'm out. geerussell 01-10-2008, 06:39 PM After two slices of humble pie, I'm going to guess they come out strong and win this one. Timone 01-10-2008, 06:41 PM http://i24.ebayimg.com/02/i/000/c4/44/c1d8_2.JPG DennyMcLain 01-10-2008, 08:19 PM They'd better win, or multiple basement fanboys will start screaming for Flip's head on a stick. Hammer Eva's shitbrain. Fuck the French. Go Pistons. Glenn 01-10-2008, 08:29 PM We're going to take it up the ol' poopshoot. At least we've got Kenny's Pictures at the half. Anybody catch the bad Bentley analogy in the pregame? geerussell 01-10-2008, 08:34 PM I'd never feel good about any 1st quarter lead against san antonio but yeah, that was sweet. geerussell 01-10-2008, 08:35 PM I can't recall ever seeing rip make a dribble move as nice as that behind the back one. Timone 01-10-2008, 08:36 PM I'm just glad the refs aren't calling those BS fouls when the Spurs are just trying to throw shit up at the basket so far. Glenn 01-10-2008, 08:40 PM 15 point first qtr lead is impressive. Not sure if I am more impressed by that or the fact that Reggie Miller has braces to fix those snaggleteeth on the bottom. Matt 01-10-2008, 08:41 PM POLL: Who has worse teeth? A. Reggie Miller B. Rasheed Wallace Matt 01-10-2008, 08:43 PM Stuckey and Maxiell starting the 2nd quarter Matt 01-10-2008, 08:44 PM Stuckey gets his hands on a lotta balls. geerussell 01-10-2008, 08:45 PM Sheed goin to work down low. Matt 01-10-2008, 08:48 PM Tayshaun, we missed you. Nice of you to come. Glenn 01-10-2008, 08:51 PM Ernie Johnson is so good that he's about the only NBA media hack that doesn't get ripped on here at WTF. Seriously, what has EJ ever done that would make anybody rip him? EJ appreciation post, right here. Timone 01-10-2008, 08:52 PM Yeah. EJ's da man. anditsnotbecauseheswhite Matt 01-10-2008, 08:54 PM why is Tayshaun playing PG when stuckey's on the floor? tay should be in the post scoring... Matt 01-10-2008, 08:55 PM whatdofuckisthat? Timone 01-10-2008, 08:55 PM Marv just called Maxiell Maxwell. Matt 01-10-2008, 08:55 PM Maxwell. that's not his name, marv. Kstat 01-10-2008, 09:05 PM The Spurs have scored on their last 6 possessions I believe, and we're still up 15 with 2 FTs coming. Love that our guards are attacking the paint. Matt 01-10-2008, 09:08 PM The Spurs have scored on their last 6 possessions I believe, and we're still up 15 with 2 FTs coming. Love that our guards are attacking the paint. one thing i saw that annoyed the crud out of me the last few games, was that the guards were planted waiting for the defenders to come to them. tonight they're making quicker, more decisive moves. Timone 01-10-2008, 09:08 PM Tim Duncan sucking ass...I LOVE IT! Matt 01-10-2008, 09:09 PM wtf, when we win, sheed shoots worse and scores less?? Matt 01-10-2008, 09:09 PM fantastic D by Sheed on Duncan. Matt 01-10-2008, 09:11 PM anytime a 3pter goes up, Primoz Brezec is always the first person up off the bench...anyone else notice this? Kstat 01-10-2008, 09:11 PM I'd like us to be up more than 15, but oh well. Timone 01-10-2008, 09:12 PM First half lasted only about an hour. Matt 01-10-2008, 09:17 PM real impressive first half. only 3 three point attempts. plenty of low post and in the paint scoring. lots of easy buckets. great defense. hopefully, the bench can come into the second half and provide plenty of quality minutes. Timone 01-10-2008, 09:18 PM Jet isn't really all that bad on TNT. Probably because there isn't a whole lot of him. Barkley is washing 'Sheed's balls right now, saying he could be the best player in the league. Matt 01-10-2008, 09:20 PM wow, lots of lovin' for Sheed...... Kstat 01-10-2008, 09:21 PM BTW, Either Rip Hamilton has figured Bowen out. or Bowen's losing a step... DrRay11 01-10-2008, 09:21 PM I agree to an extent, I'd say Sheed could be the best PF in the league if he put more practice and effort in (early on). But I'm not mad with the unselfish player he's become. Black Dynamite 01-10-2008, 09:23 PM Man the TNT crew of Reggie Miller, Marv Woman Biter Albert and Mike the Hair Piece Fratello is a decent combo. Not a bunch of geniuses, but nothing too annoying either. Also much more physical defensive game by the starters. Wish they woulda picked it up against Dallas too. Kstat 01-10-2008, 09:25 PM Yeah, but had they picked it up against Dallas, they probably wouldn't be bringing the heavy lumber tonight either. This game has anger all over it. Wilfredo Ledezma 01-10-2008, 09:26 PM BTW, Either Rip Hamilton has figured Bowen out. or Bowen's losing a step... I'd say the latter. That window has to be closing soon... Matt 01-10-2008, 09:27 PM i'm still surprised that Kenny and Charles agreed that Sheed could be the BEST player in the NBA if he focused for 82 games. i know it's a backhanded compliment, but that's still impressive. Higherwarrior 01-10-2008, 09:29 PM i'm just tired of albert calling maxiell 'maxwell'. i think he even says that in nba live, the videogame. anyway i have to agree. i don't think sheed is lazy, but he does not assert himself as he should. he's too unselfish a lot of the time and some of the time he's just not into the game unless something happens to motivate him. i agree that he could be so much more dominant. there is NO big man in the nba as well rounded and talented as him. including KG. who else can be a lock down defender, excellent rebounder and shot blocker, very good passer, fantastic on the low bloc and also a great shooter from real deep? nobody. when he is locked in and focused, he's unstoppable and SO valuable. this team only goes as far as he decides to take us. Timone 01-10-2008, 09:31 PM I'm so glad they were able to shut the SA PA dude up. Parker struggling while his rat of a wife watches = awesome. Timone 01-10-2008, 09:38 PM Billups is making Eva a widow. He's straight killin' Parker. Kstat 01-10-2008, 09:42 PM getting tired of watching spurs body-check our guys and get away with it... Kstat 01-10-2008, 09:46 PM may as well get used to it, we're getting undercut every shot we take, and the refs are pretending they don't see it. Kstat 01-10-2008, 09:48 PM more FTs for the Spurs. Wow, that's a shocker. 12 FTs to 2. Timone 01-10-2008, 09:48 PM This quarter = crappy shit. SA about to get back in it. Timone 01-10-2008, 09:53 PM lol @ Maxwell. All the makings of a SA comeback. Kstat 01-10-2008, 09:55 PM very happy we're still up 9. If Flip doesn't play his bench HUGE minutes in the 4th, Dumars should chew him out after the game. Just no excuse that 4 starters played all 12 minutes of the 3rd. Ridiculous. metr0man 01-10-2008, 09:56 PM This is where the problem with riding your starters all the way through the third quarter comes in - now the game is closer in the 4th, and now suddenly the team will need the veterans in the 4th. This is actually Flip's standard substitution pattern - he subs the 2nd half as if it were the 1st... It was fine when the starters were having these awesome 3rd quarters against mediocre teams leading to blowouts, but not now. The bench should probably be getting burn in the late 3rd. b-diddy 01-10-2008, 09:57 PM the refs havent been a problem at all. i htink theyve been great. maxiell has humiliated himself 2 nights in a row on national television. thats tough to do. bad stretch coming from him, maybe. tnt crew was pretty bold with their comments on sheed. ernie gave them a way to back off a little, but they stood strong. i agree with them, too. chauncy is playing phenomenal ball right now. letting the game come to him. its amazing how you can slow down and win the race. much more effective than just trying to outquick everyone. Kstat 01-10-2008, 09:57 PM BTW, Maxiell needs to wake the fuck up. He's looked completely lost the last 2 nights. Timone 01-10-2008, 09:58 PM Maxwell * Kstat 01-10-2008, 10:00 PM Wow, that's just what I wanted to see. Stuckey getting benched for Lindsey Hunter. Reggie's more pissed than I am. Kstat 01-10-2008, 10:02 PM Tayshaun's lack of balls is really starting to irritate me. You're 6'9" and you can't shoot. Go to the rim, you pussy. shags 01-10-2008, 10:03 PM Reggie's exactly right. This is a loss in my book, no matter what the result. It's a REGULAR SEASON game. Timone 01-10-2008, 10:04 PM I really hope SA win. b-diddy 01-10-2008, 10:04 PM benching stucky really irks me. if this isnt discipline related that flip drops down yet another notch in my book. gotta develop stucky, build trust. flip is missing the the forest for the trees. only know nothing national columnists would care if the pistons lost 3 big games in a row. we need to build for the playoffs, not win meaningless regular season games. Wilfredo Ledezma 01-10-2008, 10:07 PM I missed the start of the game, whos inactive so Hunter can dress???? Herrmann? Kstat 01-10-2008, 10:07 PM To be clear, Hunter is playing great out there. That said, I don't give a fuck. Flip doesn't get it if he really thinks a 3-game losing streak would hurt his job security. Flip's the only guy in the country that thinks benching Stuckey for Lindsey Hunter is a good idea. He knows Joe is going to roast him tomorrow. Why the hell is he doing this? Wilfredo Ledezma 01-10-2008, 10:11 PM Stuckey's not being benched you guys, he'll have plenty of minutes this weekend when we play the Knicks & Bobcats... Geez, let him play Lindsey for a bit, the guy hasn't played since the Boston game Dec. 19th... nothing to be irked about, especially if we get a W Kstat 01-10-2008, 10:11 PM holy shit, Maxiell got a call. Timone 01-10-2008, 10:11 PM Um, Boston traded Scalabrinie to SA? Wilfredo Ledezma 01-10-2008, 10:12 PM Um, Boston traded Scalabrinie to SA? Looks like Rachel Nichols running around out there... Kstat 01-10-2008, 10:12 PM Kinda unfair to Hunter, because he is playing really well. metr0man 01-10-2008, 10:12 PM I think "hammer Maxiell" got into the scouting reports somehow. Hunter is playing well, the solution though was to play Stuck back in the 3rd when the starters were sucking gas and were giving up the lead. All of our calls for Stuckey here are more frustration that the starters were rode the whole 3rd, while giving up a lead, on the tail end of a back to back. Wilfredo Ledezma 01-10-2008, 10:13 PM I think Hunter will play more than Stuckey in the playoffs IMO...maybe not in the first two rounds, but the Conference Finals my guess is.... shags 01-10-2008, 10:13 PM I missed the start of the game, whos inactive so Hunter can dress???? Herrmann? Amir Johnson. Kstat 01-10-2008, 10:14 PM Maxiell is getting a lesson in what he can get away with vs what duncan can get away with... metr0man 01-10-2008, 10:14 PM ha i think he heard us bitching (Lindsey) Wilfredo Ledezma 01-10-2008, 10:14 PM Amir Johnson will be part of our rotation this year. Black Dynamite 01-10-2008, 10:15 PM To be clear, Hunter is playing great out there. A Kstat critical of Flip moment. AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! Kstat 01-10-2008, 10:15 PM in fairness to Joe D, Amir missed the entire training camp, which killed his chances. 20-year olds with 11 career NBA games can't be missing 50 days worth of practices. Amir knows what he needs to do to become a force next season. Black Dynamite 01-10-2008, 10:18 PM The bench rotation was questioned...Would Flip stick to it against major teams? The answer NOOOOOOOO!!!!...This is what we may see all playoffs. Too bad, but is what it is. geerussell 01-10-2008, 10:21 PM The bench doesn't get action for one game... and people start losing their minds here. Wow. Just wow. b-diddy 01-10-2008, 10:23 PM hunter has played great tonight. every time ive seen him play i've thought hes played great. he's really grooving into his role. but that doesnt matter. we have a vested interest in getting stucky develped. let him play with the starters. let him play when it matters. let him play against the best team in the league. and its not like we're gonna fool anyone, but lets say hunter is an ace up our sleave. why let em know in january?? like i said, i diddnt care about this win at all. but thats just me, i guess. still, we have plenty of minutes for lindsey to take. i would get stucky his, let hunter take the starters' or afflalo's. Kstat 01-10-2008, 10:23 PM Some days I wish I could be Tim Duncan. Shit, I'd settle for his ability to throw up blind slop shit over two guys and get free throws for no reason whatsoever. Black Dynamite 01-10-2008, 10:23 PM The bench doesn't get action for one game... and people start losing their minds here. Wow. Just wow. two games. a 3rd quarter mostly. Also none of us are bailing, lol...Quit being a buzzkill on our moment of angry Zen man!! :) Timone 01-10-2008, 10:24 PM Some days I wish I could be Tim Duncan. Shit, I'd settle for his ability to throw up blind slop shit over two guys and get free throws for no reason whatsoever. I can't fucking stand the guy. b-diddy 01-10-2008, 10:25 PM The bench doesn't get action for one game... and people start losing their minds here. Wow. Just wow. because its just more of the same from the flipster. if the starters werent cruising last month, theyd have all probably played 35-40 a game. flip doesnt get it. hes got some f'd up ideals about basketball and, its why he's never surpassed expectations in the playoffs. Timone 01-10-2008, 10:25 PM HEY, welcome back Tayshaun. Kstat 01-10-2008, 10:26 PM One one hand, you have to respect SA's guards for attacking the basket. On the other hand, they are bitchmade for not even attempting to score at the rim. They just look for the first Piston they can find, and then they run into him and fall down. How many layups has parker missed tonight because he throws himself under the basket rather than going straight up for the shot? b-diddy 01-10-2008, 10:27 PM in fairness to Joe D, Amir missed the entire training camp, which killed his chances. 20-year olds with 11 career NBA games can't be missing 50 days worth of practices. Amir knows what he needs to do to become a force next season. based on what? the picture him playing with a gun like its a toy right before a contract negotiation? he has a lot to prove, especially concerning whats going on upstairs. metr0man 01-10-2008, 10:29 PM The bench doesn't get action for one game... and people start losing their minds here. Wow. Just wow. it's because the starters gave up the lead.... while playing the WHOLE 3rd quarter........ on the tail end of a back to back. If you dont think playing the starters the whole third as they're choking up a lead was a fuck up, i dont know what to say. metr0man 01-10-2008, 10:31 PM err... Jarvis Hayes and Tay are playing the 3 and 4??? Kstat 01-10-2008, 10:33 PM Dice fouled out, and Primoz has made it clear he's not to be trusted. Hermann probably would work, but he'd be coming in ice cold. Kstat 01-10-2008, 10:36 PM beautiful patience there to beat the trap. Hayes at the 4 is a nice wrinkle when we're being pressed. Cross 01-10-2008, 10:38 PM win Kstat 01-10-2008, 10:41 PM kinds silly for chauncey to voluntarily make a turnover there. Just fire up a shot, who cares if it goes in, Timone 01-10-2008, 10:42 PM Charlotte and New York will both be wins. I don't know who they play after that (Orlando?) Kstat 01-10-2008, 10:45 PM they got the Raptors at home on tuesday. geerussell 01-10-2008, 10:48 PM That was a good win and getting a taste of what it's like to win in san antonio is a rare thing. A three game losing streak is worth avoiding and looking at the schedule there will be tons of minutes for the bench just like there was for the previous 10+. Matt 01-10-2008, 10:50 PM yeah, FlipS probably the bench tonight, but i'm just glad we got a win. we needed to shake off this losing skid. Timone 01-10-2008, 10:53 PM At least Rasheed's going to shower tonight. Kstat 01-10-2008, 10:55 PM Fatima is more excited about this win than the players... Tahoe 01-10-2008, 10:58 PM I'm ready for the playoffs Glenn 01-10-2008, 11:40 PM Nice to see that this team can still bring it when they feel like it. Frustrating as hell, but we should all be used to this by now. I think we all knew deep down that we weren't "really" going to sacrifice wins to develop the bench, even if that is the bill of goods that we were being sold. That rotation gets as tight as hell in "big" games. Joe Asberry 01-11-2008, 01:19 AM 28min Max, 16 Hayes, 6 Stuck, 6 Lindsay...if thats a preview for all the tight, big games in the playoffs...ugh, i hope not...still a much needed win Uncle Mxy 01-11-2008, 06:51 AM I was watching this at a restaurant bar. Fuckers kept on fucking changing the one fucking TV that was basketball to the fucking hockey game every other TV was on, every fucking chance they got. So, I went to another restaurant to watch the second half & eat. Wilfredo Ledezma 01-11-2008, 09:12 AM 28min Max, 16 Hayes, 6 Stuck, 6 Lindsay...if thats a preview for all the tight, big games in the playoffs...ugh, i hope not...still a much needed win I have a feeling it will be a preview of the playoffs. Only because our starters are playing less minutes this year than last... So they will make up for the "loss" in April & May... yargs 01-11-2008, 09:42 AM I have a feeling it will be a preview of the playoffs. Only because our starters are playing less minutes this year than last... So they will make up for the "loss" in April & May... When the starters are shooting a high percentage (as Rasheed, Rip and Tayshaun did) and especially if the bench isn't scoring (which they weren't) and the starters are coming off a game in which they didn't play many minutes I don't think it's an issue that they big minutes in big games. Especially not this year when the starters haven't been overused. I just have issues when the starters stay in the game when they are not performing. (I believe in holding people accountable for their performance) I also don't have issues with Lindsey playing when needed (but not at the expense of Stuckey's development which was apparently not the case) I'm one of those foolish fans that thinks defense contributes greatly to winning basketball games. I originally thought hunter was activated to match up against Tony Parker but apparently it was because stuckey hurt his hand. Both are extremely valid reasons to activate Lindsey Hunter. I also think the refs called a great game. Usually they bail out parker and ginobili each time they drive to the basket but not last night. It was refreshing basketball (stern is probably uber pissed....stars not getting calls....only 90 points scored by the winning team...) The coaching staff had a great game plan. You shut down parker you have a great chance at beating the spurs. I'm probably the most anti-flip saunders person on the planet but for once I can't nit-pick. I feel so empty. geerussell 01-11-2008, 10:44 AM When the starters are shooting a high percentage (as Rasheed, Rip and Tayshaun did) and especially if the bench isn't scoring (which they weren't) and the starters are coming off a game in which they didn't play many minutes I don't think it's an issue that they big minutes in big games. Timone 01-11-2008, 02:16 PM I also agree with the fact the refs called a great game. |
