REPORT: MSU receiver Devin Thomas will enter NFL Draft

Michigan State junior wide receiver Devin Thomas will forgo his senior season with the Spartans and enter the NFL draft according to ESPN's Len Pasquarelli.

Thomas had a breakout season in 2007 recording 79 receptions for 1,260 yards and eight touchdowns.


The Free Press spoke with Thomas' mother on Friday evening, but she was unable to confirm the report.

as for Devin, I think 3rd-5th round sounds about right, he's a bit undersized, but has the speed to be a solid "Shaun McDonald-like" receiver in the NFL...

I just hope for his sake he's not another DeAndra Cobb

Undersized? He is 6'2 220.

And he lead the B10 in recieving and All Purpose yards. I see second round, and I think Devin was told at least that, or he wouldn't have left.

And Deandre Cobb was a 5th rounder(I think) and had never been a full time RB. And he played for a few years, and may even still be playing. He also didn't leave early. Deandre did great for what he was, I'm not sure how that example applies in any way.

I think he could be a threat.
The better comparison would be to Muhsin Muhammed - former Spartan drafted in the 2nd round and VERY productive when used in the right offense.

btw, Muhsin is 6'2", 215

Leading the Big Ten in receiving yards is no big deal. It just means that MSU was forced to throw alot since they were playing "comeback" half their season, and also it's because he was the only functional reciever on that team...

Mark Dell didn't do jack this year, Kellen Davis didn't get enough throws his way, and Terry Love & Deon Curry were both mediocre this year...

And yes, Devin is undersized, he's not a "go up and get it" downfield type of receiver, he's more of a slot guy who in the NFL will be a short yardage, over the middle type receiver... a la Shaun McDonald

Ok, the throwing a lot because they were behind argument doesn't work. As much as I like to rip on the Spartans, they often went to Thomas early to open up the run, which was the 4th best running game in the conference. Ringer out-rushed Hart, Caulcrick outscored EVERYONE, and so Thomas having more rec yards than Manningham and James Hardy is a big deal. Hoyer has 2700 passing yards and Thomas had 1260 rec yards, meaning that about 45% of the passing yardage went to Thomas. Give the kid credit. He did nothing in the bowl game because BC did a great job of taking him out of it, but he had at least 100 yds and 1 score in 6 of the games. That's pretty solid. His worst game of the regular season he had 3 catches for 53 yards. That's fairly substantial for your worst day.

The rankings are based on total yardage, not ypg. I simply provided ypg numbers. Northwestern was actually #2 in ypg, but since they played 12 games instead of 13, they fell to 6th in total yardage. If rankings were based on ypg, UM would be #10, right behind O$U. Iowa was by far the worst, with only 338 ypg. So glad Ferentz didn't get the job!

Wil - 6'2 220 isn't undersized. You are stupid. And then saying his numbers were because MSU was in 'comeback mode', WTF? MSU never lost by more than 7. They weren't way behind in any game except OSU. Why didn't Hardy get it if we are talking about playing from behind and bigtime WRs?

If Thomas is undersized - Manningham, Arrington, Matthews, Hemmingway, and the rest of the UM Wr's not named Webb are undersized too.
