Iowans luv their cockass.

So I'm told......*

Fearless predict:

Huckabee for the Reds (Chuck Norris factor is hard to overcome)

Obama for the Blues... according to this site http://blog.compete.com/2007/07/18/democratic-candidates-most-visited-sites-clinton-obama-edwards-richardson/

this guy agrees with me that this is an especially important election:

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601070&sid=aQn6xAWzl4KM&refer=home

Both Democrats and Republicans are stressing the election's importance, spending record amounts of money to convince voters they are best-suited to take on crises ranging from global terrorism and the war in Iraq to a housing slump that threatens to send the U.S. economy into recession.

``This is roughly like the time of the beginning of the Cold War, when the country was searching for a wise policy to meet the international challenges,'' says presidential historian Robert Dallek. ``That's really the big issue of this election.''

Domestic concerns are no less pressing. In addition to a wave of real-estate foreclosures, the economy is under stress from funding crises facing the Medicare and Social Security systems, and 47 million Americans still lack health insurance.

that shit matters. i mean, its really not as ridiculous as it seems either.

whats more ridiculous: voting based on who's appearance you like better or who's policy in the middle east you like better. which one do you think your more qualified to judge?

Obviously speaking skills are not important or we wouldn't have the current president.

I meant she's a shrill in general, not just her voice is piercing.

I'd be in favor of picking four states at random after the mid-term election, sorting from smallest to largest # of delegates, and avoiding the Iowa/NH bias.

Pretty regularly. But the real one is New Hampshire. The winner in NH almost always wins in November.

I kind of thought the last one was given the situations in Iraq, with Al Queda, South Korea, etc. We needed a president to deal with all those concerns as well as improve our economy at home. We certainly got less than people bargained for, that is for sure. I'm not sure another canidate would have solved all those things. However, I felt it was a huge election and we were all let down.

I suppose this one is just as big because none of those things have been resolved.

Hermy

Doubt this is top 30 in importance.

b-diddy
01-03-2008, 06:04 PM
our position in the global economy is awfully shaky right now. i honestly believe it is 'very important' we elect a leader who not only knows what needs to be done, but how to get it done. hilary has the experience (maybe) but she is too devisive to get cooperation from accross the isle to really get done what needs it.

we cant afford another president who is willing to put party and chronyism before country again.

the china threat is real, imo.

and to put things in perspective, i believe the iraq war is only moderately important, relatively speaking.

DennyMcLain
01-03-2008, 07:31 PM
Stop ripping on Iowa.

It offers them a feeling of importance once every 4 years (nationally). People throughout the world say, "Oh yeah....Iowa. Almost forgot about them. It's near Maryland, right?"

Iowa needs a superhero, like Kansas has Superman.

I elect Glenn.

DennyMcLain

No joke. I'm not totally against the Iowa Cockass. After spending millions of dollars on campaign advertising, this is the first true barometer on where candidates fare. I find it interesting how the Dems have a completely different system of caucusing than the more simplified version the Reps use.

Not sure if one version sends a clearer message than the other one, but it's disheartning that if your Democratic candidate holds less than 15% on the vote in one area (I think it's 15), you can actually "switch" to a stronger candidate. Weird.

Iraq is doing better, AQ was beaten out of Iraq by most reports and SK has come to the table.

Mission Accomplished? Hell no, but we made progress, imo.

and if you noticed, BO has taken the lead in %'s, according to cnn. he started at back 3rd to first. id like to see some correspondence with the candidates, i bet hilary is wigging out.

It was a really good showing for BO, agree, but I think when the Dems end up in a 3 way tie, Iowa will be forgoten tomorrow...If you know what I mean.

No one will take any real momentum out of it. BO will have the most, no doubt, but not much mo, imo.

its a damn near draw right now between hil and edwards. couldnt be any closer. it looks like its a race for second though, which is nice.

b-diddy
01-03-2008, 09:23 PM
have you noticed that? i caught on to them being pro hilary a few weeks back. wasnt sure if i was just seeing things or if it were real.

i did notice that at the beginning, when hil was beating BO they showed it the whole time, but when BO passed her, for a long time they completely hid democratic results.

b-diddy
01-03-2008, 09:24 PM
with 31% of precincts left to report, hilary is just 4 delegates behind edwards (479 to 475, i believe) its been this way since about 400.

BO wins! hilary is just 3 delegates behind (530-527, 76% reporting)

b-diddy
01-03-2008, 09:32 PM
as far as going from here, clinton isnt dead, but wounded. edwards is dead. obama would probably prefer him to stay in the race to sling more mud. mud sticks to hilary more than obama, so its like he has to worry like hilary would.

plus, its been my theory all along that edwards has been BO's attack dog with a VP invite coming.

b-diddy
01-03-2008, 09:35 PM
80%, edwards is up by 6 delegates now. what a race!

Tahoe
01-03-2008, 09:36 PM
I think the biggest thing that is still an unknown is how many of the Edwards and BO voters are ANTI Hillary voters.

I'm not sure she'll get the majority of Edwards votes if he drops out. That one story stuck with me... I think I posted it...It was something like no one with as high of negatives as Hillary has, has ever won a national election or something.

b-diddy
01-03-2008, 09:40 PM
yea, 40% of america is anti-hilary. definitly noteworthy. also of note, hilary would be the 4th oldest president ever to take office, i believe i read. though im kind of skeptical thats true.

obama is turning this into a rout, hilary is back to within 3 at 84 %, though.

b-diddy
01-03-2008, 10:23 PM
it looks like the final split for the dems is gonna be 38-30-29 (BO-JE-HC).

i doubt anyone expect that kind of a margin tonight. huge turnout speaks volumes about what the dems are gonna do in the general election.

b-diddy
01-03-2008, 11:09 PM

Huckabee got lots of hype because his race was decided surprisingly early on.

The voter turnout for Democrats should scare the Republicans big-time. There are not a lot of party faithful enthused about these Republican candidates.

CNN has to keep a finger on the pulse of what people want if they want to know how to cover the race, i.e. how to sell advertising. They're scrambling for a narrative right now.

Edit: Did you see how Giuliani ended up? Wow.

If BO can win in lilly white Iowa, he damn sure should win in NH and go on to take the nomination. I'll be stunned, now, if he doesn't win it.

I didn't think Iowans would vote for a percieved city boy like Romney, BO, etc. Again, if he can win there, he should be fine the rest of the way.

I'm still a little stunned that BO won, but really like the guy. I expect the only Republican that can beat BO is maybe McCain.
