He accepted the DC position per Fox Sports Radio.

Cya.

They are excited to have him. I am happy he is gone sorta. I just dont think Coach Rod can keep him around with as popular he is. Cant have a guy who interviewed the job there and if things go bad wonder why they didnt go with Coach E. Just makes perfect sense to have him move on.

UM also gave up 35 points yesterday. Even in a win they really didnt shut anyone down.

Louisville hires former U-M assistant English

Angelique S. Chengelis / The Detroit News

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Now that the season is over, the future remains up in the air for most of Lloyd Carr's coaching staff.

So what's next?

• Defensive coordinator Ron English said he has accepted the defensive coordinator position at Louisville. "I'm excited about it," he said. "Hopefully I can affect some change there and help those kids a little bit in that program. That's what I'm hoping to do."

• Quarterbacks coach Scot Loeffler recently interviewed with Tennessee for the offensive coordinator job, and sources have indicated he could be considered for Rick Neuheisel's UCLA staff.

"I've talked to some people so far," Loeffler said. "I love coaching football. I'm going to miss coaching at Michigan. It's been Quarterback U. This place is special. I'm the luckiest guy to work for coach Carr and work for Michigan. Someday I hope to come back here. This is my home, it's what I know."

• Defensive backs coach Vance Bedford said he doesn't have anything in line.

"I want to go home, work the phones and hope that someone gives me a call," he said. "My preference is where does my wife want to live. That's key."

• Receivers coach Erik Campbell, thought to have a chance to be rehired at Michigan, said he has not yet heard from new coach Rich Rodriguez, and he has nothing in the works.

ART:
I agree and will add this: How many years are you gonna have English for, anyway? He's looking for the HC job somewhere, that's a fact. I say you get your own guy in there, someone who wants to be a DC (at least for a few years), and not keep someone you're gonna have to replace after next season anyway.
English is right to make the move NOW. He has interviewed for the Arkansas job, he is probably pretty well respected in the field, and his name is hot. If he goes to Louisville and turns THAT defense around in a couple years, he's GOLDEN.
There is NO reason to suspect that UM needs Ron English.

More rumor mongering:

S&C coach Barwis has decided to stay with Stewart at WVU, and Calvin Magee is now wavering on whether to come to UM with Rodriguez.

Per Scout WVU free message board

Glenn

I thought that might happen as soon as I heard that they were retaining Stewart, these guys probably don't want to move their families.

If there was regime change, they'd be out, but WVU has taken their best shot at program continuity, and it may just work.

Zip Goshboots
01-03-2008, 01:41 PM
I agree. That may be the BIGGER upset than the actual final score. I'm not terribly worried about Magee, but the S&C guy had me intrigued. I also hope the dbacks guy doesn;t change his mind, he's RR's recrooting coordinator.
Ya just never know.

Zip Goshboots
01-03-2008, 01:44 PM
I'm quite sure that when RR made the move, he was super confident that he wouldn't be going alone. I wonder if he was incommunication with these guys, asking them what they'd do if Stewart got the job.

Of course, it's all just rumor, and everyone might be just caught up in a feel good moment.

Glenn

Zip you got anything on UCLA potentially hiring Loeffler too?

Fool
01-03-2008, 01:49 PM
If the report that he was unhappy with WVU because they wouldn't pay his assistants is true, it doesn't make much sense that they'd abandon him just to not move again (these are college football coaches, they know they are going to move to get work).

Zip Goshboots

I heard that last week, oddly enough, even before the Neuheisel thing. I figured I'd leave that to Will or Art.
RR called Pryor first, maybe Neuheisel called Loeffler.

It seems odd, that connection. Makes me think Mallett's dad is working the phones behind the scenes for junior to see who has the sweetest deal.

FOOL:

I agree with you on the pay thing. However, I read on Mgoblog that Stewart's pay will be in the 800K range, possibly leaving more money for assistants. I don;t know about the other issues, like facilities or whatever else RR wanted.

I am finding NOTHING on the Scout free boards to substantiate the rumors. In fact, the have a link up to the Freep about some coaches who may WANT to stay.
One poster said of the 800K for Stewart that WVU has let it be known they are going "cheap", and didn;t see any extra money being paid to assistants.

It looks like they have taken off with the Freep article and are running with it. The Freep posters are panicking, saying that RR made a mistake in firing all Lloyd's asistants.

Looks like much ado about nothing so far. What would you do? Stay with a guy (Stewart) that already has NO support from the schools richest booster and who (IMO) is doomed; or follow RR to Michigan? Fuck the family moving thing, that's what coaches and their broods do.

Glenn
01-03-2008, 02:44 PM
WVA was claiming that they wanted a "big name" coach, now they are going cheap?

ESPN was speculating (partially joking) about Saban just yesterday. He's from WV.

Where the FUCK is Art? Motherfucker, Art, get over here and REPORT (or at least PM me)

The WVU boards are cooling down. There doesn't seem to be any legs to any of the rumors, except that Casteel (the DC) "just bought a new house in XXX West Virginia Neuvaux Riche Gated Honkey Enclave".
Some guy popped up who claimed to have recently edited info from Michigan Premium Boards saying that six assistants, and Barwis, are all committed to coming to Michigan.

It's looking more and more like yesterday's hubub over who might come to Ann Arbor with RR is just that: Bullshit started in part by the Free Press.
The staff RR had hoped to put together looks like it just may happen. One exception seems to be that their receivers coach is wavering on coming here, but UM's plan B is Erik Campbell (sorry, I just can't bring myself to use the INCREDIBLY orginal nickname of "Soup" for a guy named Campbell). Campbell apparently really wants to stay, it looks like he just might.
Also looks like Steve Stripling may have a job in A2, as the WVU Dline coach is staying put in Morgantown.
So far, it looks great for Casteel, Magee, Gibson (a done deal), and the Oline coach at WVU, Greg Fry (Don't know what to think about Moeller, after seeing UM's Oline dominate Florida in the bowl after a pretty mediocre year).
And it still looks like Barwis is coming. Boy, would I be pissed off if I were UM and just handed him 600K to revamp the weight room and he changes his mind. I might kill him if I were Mary Sue Coleman).

I wouldn't be thrilled if RR just moved EVERYONE here. I'm sure he needs some new blood himself, and by all accounts, there were some pretty good minds on Lloyd's staff (not my accounts. I actually watch the games). I think there is room for some of the guys that have been here, and again, who knows what they could do without Lloyd?
I heard that Debord was offered a position. I would like to know what that was. Does RR need someone new to keep his headphone cord from tripping him up during games?

Jethro34
01-04-2008, 01:07 PM
I had heard that Debord was offered TE's and/or special teams. TE would be fine, but no special teams. Remember how much of a disaster our punt team was when he coached that unit?
Either way, apparently he turned down whatever offer was made.

According to ESPN at 5:32 P.M., five coaches have been confirmed to be following RR to Ann Arbor:
Calvin Magee (OC)
Greg Frey (Oline)
Rod Smith (QB coach)
Bruce Tall (Safeties)
Tony Gibson (D backs)
AND Mike Barwis (S&C)

The DC, Jeff Casteel, is still "weighing his options".

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3181757

WVU's Scout posters seem to think that Casteel will NOT be coming to Michigan.

Jethro34
01-04-2008, 08:51 PM
Beautiful. With all the buildup over Magee and Barwis in particular, I would have felt uneasy if they weren't coming along.

Certainly looks like Campbell and Stripling could still fit into that group. Not sure if that could get AA, MM, or TT back or not. Why is it that so many people with the same initials come to Ann Arbor? RR? Technically Doug Dutch and Mike Massey could both leave as well, but Steve Schilling will still be here.

Wilfredo Ledezma
01-04-2008, 08:59 PM
Zip, what info do you want??? The Scout boards have been dry the last week. Not really any new info at all...

I guess theres an outside chance Soup Campbell could be rehired, but he hasn't even talked to RR yet. Also Andy Moeller could be rehired to coach the O-Line...

It looks like Loeffler is going to go to Tennessee and be the OC on Fulmers staff...

Stripling also could be rehired, once I get more I'll share it w/ you guys

Jethro34

If Frey, the OL coach from WVU is coming, then Moeller would have to take another title to stick around - unless Frey takes one.

Wilfredo Ledezma
01-04-2008, 09:05 PM
I wouldn't mind Casteel staying at WV, I'm a bit skeptical about this "3-3-5" thing working in the Big Ten...

Then again, we are returning 7 starters on defense and a couple key non-starters such as Brandon Harrison and John Thompson, so regardless we should be more than fine...

Wilfredo Ledezma
01-04-2008, 09:06 PM
I wonder when we'll finally get to see Marques Slocum and Jonas Mouton actually get some playing time.

I'm sure they weren't ranked 5 stars for nothing...

Jethro34
01-04-2008, 09:15 PM
Well, as much as Carr is going out on a high note, my greatest enthusiasm about the new staff is that they get amazing results out of 3 star players. I can't wait to see what they do with 5 star players. Hopefully they take what has made them 5 stars and improve on it, because we've had way too many highly ranked guys come through UM without ever living up to their potential.

I know that happens other places as well, but come on.

On another note, apparently there will be meetings tomorrow with the assistants, notably Barwis. Barwis, according to some dolts on the WVU boards, is on record as ssaying he would stay at West By Gourd Virginia IF Stewart got the job. I'm skeptical. But then again, I'm skeptical of everything, including my wife's story that her car AND cell phone broke down last night, which is why she didn't get home until seven oclock this morning. Hell, it's not like I care, because it gave me extra time to jerk off.
Anyway, apparently Barwis' wife (who is hot, by some accounts, and I'm going to YouPorn to get a shot of her), is a big, ahem, "supporter" of WVU athletics. And, her name is "Autumn" HEHEHHEHEHE WHOOOO! BONER CITY, BABY!, and she wants to stay there.
Of course, all the WVU puss-twat-tards, the toothless variety who never get laid, are all "Wail, if'n My-ik wants to keep his waahf happy, and nawt sleeyup on the couch, mebbe he better kip hisself raght here, so's she don;t want to not have the say-ux with himm"
I'm all, "Hey dude, Michigan State is 45 minutes from Ann Arbor, and that means hot chicks who will do ANY-THING you want them to. What the fuck does Barwis have to worry about his wife for?"

I'll keep you guys posted.

Well, the latest news on Assistants is that RR is bringing six WVU guys plus Barwis.
It looks like Dews, the receivers coach, is coming, which seems like a flip flop from the last couple days.
Looks like "Joe" Campbell is gone, unless they can find something for him.

An airplane left Willow Run airport sometime this afternoon and headed for Morgantown.Probably not an airplane, like the Fokker that the Red Barron flew, or the Stuka that the Germans flew in the Big One WW2, or a Piper Cub. It was probably a small jet, a DC3 or even a Lear Jet.

Remember who eventually shot him down:

http://www.tucsoncitizen.com/blogs/media/joecool.jpg

Here's a look at the Stuka. The German's were pretty Tressel like with these things (In the Big One, WW2)

http://www.chesterfieldarmament.com/taylor/stuka/stuka.jpg

Here's a couple of DC 10 girls that would be on the plane headed to WVU if I were on it:

http://www.getrealdenver.com/wp-content/photos/DC10_Girls.jpg

Lastly, here's a Lear Jet. This is the ultimate "Opps! My panties and shirt just fell off" way to impress The Ladies, and it's the qucikest way to get to Morgantown, kidnap an assistant coach or two, grab Rita's hairstylist, and get back to Ann Arbor in just under 7 minutes so they can all sign the contract.

http://www.luxuryyachting.com/lear_jet.jpg

And if any of the coaches, or their wives get jittery about signing, there's always this:

Well, As The UM Staff Turns has a new installment tonight: RR, according to Scout, is having all kinds of trouble getting a D Coordinator. First, Casteel is staying put (it turns out this is not surprising, much talk of RR and Casteel not being on the best of terms), and now Hood of Wake Forest is said to be "balking".
Is English locked up at Loserville? If not, maybe invite him over for a night of hookers, cards, beer, and contract negotiations!
Does this bring Tenuta into the picture?

I'm not what you'd call frustrated over this DC thing. You wouldn;t expect EVERY coach to come over from WVU (and you probably wouldn't want that).
However, I find it hard to believe Casteel would stake his claim with Bill Stewart, who seems to me to be Opie Taylor all growed up. Not to mention that you're the only guy there now who is worth a shit.
I also can't figure out Casteel not watning to come to Ann Arbor with the talent there, and the recruiting class coming in.
As for Hood, what the fuck you gon' do at friggin' Wake Forest? The only direction that program can go is DOWN from here, or maybe flatline.
And consider that Michigan just put up with a decade of mediocrity, big game embarrassments, and only TWO assistants lost their jobs (kind of. Lloyd got them into the NFL). Not to mention that the entire staff gets a paycheck next year to do, well, what they've done for the last decade: NOTHING!!!
I'd jump on that shit fast!

I'm with ya Zekyll. I don;t know much about coordinators unless they're at Michigan, or when their name gets HOT. That's just too much to follow for me.
However, I do have a couple nerdy friends who floow everything from coaches to what the third string long snapper's dog eats.

John Tenuta is highly regarded, but might cost nearly half a mill. He is going out with the Georgia Tech staff, and makes about 400K right now.

Believe it or not (and it ain't gonna happen), I liked the overall work of Ron English, and saw improvement. This year was tough, UM lost a ton of talent off last year's team. A Dcoordinator needs time to learn what he's doing. I wasn;t sorry to see English get axed, but wouldn;t have minded seeing what he could do under RR.

I might talk to the Kansas DC. Kansas had a pretty good year. Their offense got most of the attention, but their defense was damn good all year.

Other than that? I don't have a fucking clue!
