Yi has surprised the heck out of me. He's a poor man's Yao Ming, which means he's still pretty darn good (though on a suck team).

defrocked
12-31-2007, 07:27 AM
I didn't think he was anything like Yao, except for, you know, being Chinese. Tell me that wasn't the only basis for the comparison.

Well, I can kind of see the similarities in their game. You have to admit they are both jumpshooters. Man, what the hell, if I was 7' 6" I would be posting up all day, not shooting fadeaway jumpers. Yi has surprised me a bit, but he just needs some time to settle and it doesn't help he's on a terrible team. Yao is a different player though, he rebounds better and does play in the post mostly, even though all he shoots is turnaround and face up jumpers. I know this point is moot because of the size diff. but Yi is a hell of a lot more athletic than Yao.

It just seems like the Lions, no matter whom the Bucks draft they will suck. I mean on paper they look like a decent team, but that's def. not the case.

Bucks-Pistons Preview

By ANTHONY GIORNALISTA, STATS Senior Writer
Posted Dec 30 2007 4:51PM

The Detroit Pistons got their starters some rest with an easy win over the Milwaukee Bucks to open this month. Ending it in similar fashion would send them into the new year on quite a high note.

The Pistons look to extend an eight-game winning streak and continue their dominance of the Bucks when the teams continue their season series Monday.

Central Division-leading Detroit (23-7) is coming off a home-and-home sweep of Indiana, winning on Friday and Saturday to move into position to win nine straight games for the first time since an 11-game run from Jan. 1-29, 2006.

It seems the Pistons should have little trouble extending this streak, having won four straight and nine of 11 against Milwaukee (11-18). The Bucks have won only once in their last eight trips to The Palace of Auburn Hills, where Detroit is 12-2 this season.

Against Milwaukee on Dec. 1, the Pistons sat out their starters in the fourth quarter as they coasted to a 117-91 win. In the final game between the teams last season, Detroit won 121-95 on March 25.

Milwaukee enters this game having lost three straight, giving Detroit a good opportunity to increase its 8 1/2-game lead in the Central. The Bucks are in last place and 11 1/2 games back of the Pistons, who are the only team in the division with a winning record and are making a run at Eastern Conference-leading Boston.

"We just can't be complacent with where we are," Detroit guard Chauncey Billups said. "There are too many good teams in this league that can sneak up on you. We just have to keep playing tough and doing the things that we've been doing all season."

Richard Hamilton has averaged 23.0 points over the past three games, shooting 60.4 percent from the field (29-of-48), and has made all five of his 3-point tries in the last two.

Milwaukee was 3-of-12 from beyond the arc in a 97-95 loss to New Jersey on Saturday night.

The Bucks have lost five of six and 14 of 18 following a five-game winning streak.

After this season's first meeting with Detroit, Milwaukee's players and coaches held a closed-door meeting to try and keep the season from snowballing out of control. The Bucks are 4-10 since then.

"We just have to keep fighting," Milwaukee point guard Mo Williams said. "It will fall our way one day. Guys are not going at each other. Guys still want to turn things around. It's not like we're getting blown out. They're close games, and we're playing well."

Williams had 24 points against the Nets, and is averaging 21.3 in his last four games. He has struggled in 14 games against the Pistons, though, averaging 8.8 points while shooting 39.8 percent from the floor.

Michael Redd, Williams' backcourt mate, had just 11 points versus Detroit on Dec. 1, but is coming off two outstanding games. He had 35 points versus the Nets after a 34-point effort in a loss to Chicago the previous day, giving him 30 points or more in consecutive games for the first time this season.

Uncle Mxy

They're both jumpshooters, semi-decent defenders, tall but not intuitive shot blockers given their height. It wasn't just that they were Chinese (and no, not every white player needs to be compared to Larry Bird :) ). Yeah, I agree that Yi can run and cover more of the court by comparison, but he's 6" shorter and clearly playing PF, not C. Yao and Yi had similar endurance issues as rookies, in contrast to most bigs who foul long before they wear out.

I'd say ESPN Gamecast. You even get a nice little animation of a shot going up and in (or out) with a picture of the player who took the shot next to it. That's the best for play-by-play in my opinion.

Bucks' Williams to miss game against Pistons with Achilles tendinitis

December 31, 2007

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) -- Milwaukee Bucks point guard Mo Williams will miss Monday's game against the Detroit Pistons with tendinitis in his left Achilles tendon.

Williams, Milwaukee's second-leading scorer, was averaging 21.3 points and 9.3 assists in his last four games. He was replaced in the starting lineup by Charlie Bell.

It's pretty interesting, because I remember their bench before the Rasheed deal consisting of Lindsey (who was traded to Boston as part of the 'Sheed deal, then later waived by them), Bob Sura, Corliss, Zeljko Rebraca and Elden. Mehmet was in the starting rotation.

Can't say I'm sure it was Rebraca 100%. I know he was on the team, but I don't remember how often he played...

I could seriously see the Pistons clearing the floor for him at the end of games in the future. I bet he can burn anyone on our team or pull up and shoot it. And he's perfect from the line.

He is that kind of player to run a clear out for, imo. He is an improvement over CBill on that. I know I'll catch hell for that but CBill can't blow by guys. He can draw the foul, but he has to muscle guys down low, not blow by.

i don't think anyone will argue with that. Chauncey is a below average pentration guard, IMO. hell, our entire starting line up lacks guys who can consistently break their man off the dribble. Stuckey bringing that dimension to this team was the most exciting for me.

Do you expect a guy getting 2 minutes a game to pull it back out? Not gonna happen. This was a blowout of epic proportion. Whats the diff between 42 and 44?

If we've learned anything from Bill Bellicick's persuit of perfection is that you play hard every minute of every game. These kids come in that don't get much time need to play with intensity every second they play.

I'll take a loss to Toronto, if it means we beat Boston the very next day.

But in reality, the way they are playing, they will probably win both.

Highlights from the game tonight:

-Hermann got Rip on the kiss cam. He trickled his fingers up the back of Rip's next and his ass jumped 9 feet off the bench. It was funny as shit.

-Loudest cheer of the night was when primoz finally hit a free throw.

-Stuckey ran the offense as well as he's eer ran it. This kid is learning quickly.

-Rip is in an amazing shooting zone. Jarvis too.

-This is the most talented Pistons team I've seen in 20 years. Much deeper and more talented than the 04 team. Doesn't mean they're championship locks, but this is an amazing team to watch in person.

Have to disagree here.

You have to thank the crowd somehow for coming and having to watch this.

Amen. The Palace was 4/5 empty by the 2 minute mark. We really appreciated that shit.

It's not like Milwaukee stopped playing. They could have let the clock run out when they had the ball and they attacked the rim.

Andrew Bogut in postgame:

"We were happy with the loss before the game. We just wanted to get out of Detroit and get to Miami.

That's going to stir up some shit.

Well, since "Rape and Pillage 101" is the only class Flip can get into...
Today was more like "Rape and Pillage 301" -- this was a truly advanced slaughter.

I could give a shit about the crowd. It's about the young guys learning to play with intensity every second on the floor.

Do you think that Lindsey will be active for the Boston game???

Mainly just because of what he did to Eddie House, I'm wondering if that will be his role (kind of like how Elden Campbell only played Vs. Shaq)...

I wouldn't. Give Stuckey the shot at it. It's the regular season. Now is when you want to find out what guys are capable of against the big teams.

I hope not. We already saw Boston's backup guards struggled against the kind of pressure Lindsay can provide. There's no need to give them a chance to adjust until Game 1 of the ECF.

That's what the Spurs would do.

LOL, did Bogut really say that?

Heard it over the radio myself. They replayed it three times.

Bogut sounded like he was trying to throw his team under the bus, moreso than himself. he was pretty upset.

Wish I could have seen that game. I love watching the backups getting time. I'd love to just kick back and watch Brezec, Walter, Stuckey, AA, and Amir play. That'd be perfect.

Watching Sheed look on in disgusted disbelief while Brezec dove for stray rebounds in the stands was fucking hilarious. Seriously my favorite 30 seconds for the entire season so far.

Sheed and Max were like, "this motherfucker is diving for loose balls when we are up 45?"

Max was just shaking his head in disbelief and Sheed looked like he saw a ghost.

http://blogs.jsonline.com/bucks/archive/2007/12/31/the-bucks-answer-man.aspx

Auburn Hills, Mich. – Center Andrew Bogut had a plan to figure out how to get the Milwaukee Bucks back on track after they suffered a 114-69 loss the Detroit Pistons Monday afternoon at the Palace of Auburn Hills, the third-worst loss in Bucks franchise history.

“I’m going to Google when I get back home and figure something out because it’s getting ridiculous,” he said.

But what did he plan to type into the subject field in his attempt to find some answers?

“I don’t know,” said Bogut. “Maybe, ‘Win’ or Learning How to Win’.”

The only two times that the Bucks have lost by more points were on Jan. 27, 1990, when they lost at Utah, 144-96; and on Feb. 20, 1995, when they lost at home to Orlando, 152-104.

The game against Utah came just after Jazz forward Karl Malone had been snubbed in the fan balloting for all-star starters. Malone went off for 61 points that night which still stands as the highest-scoring game of all-time by an opponent against the Bucks.

Monday’s victory was the ninth straight for Detroit which beat the Bucks by 26 points earlier this season at the Bradley Center. In each of the last two seasons, the Bucks have lost three of four games to Detroit but most of the games were competitive.

“The last two years, we played Detroit pretty well,” said Bogut. “Every game was close. This year, it’s like they’re the King of the Mountain and we’re scared to play against them.”

Shh... he needs to Google the word "coach".

My preseason pick of Coach K for COY isn't looking too hot right now, lol.

I thought this team was going to come together and surprise people, but the surprises that they are providing aren't good ones.

Might be time to break them up.

It seems like they all stand around and wait for Redd to shoot.

I think the easiest/quickest fix is to get trade Redd and hopefully that enables the rest of these guys to get involved and share the ball.

The Bucks being 12-20 is a head scratcher for me.

Just goes to show that you can have talent, but without a good coach you're going nowhere.

And how about Charlie Bell? Dude was balling last season and he's averaging 4.1 PPG.

He got his contract, didn't he? Now its time to take a season off.

I just don't get it. They're way more talented than, say, Philly.

Of course, Bogut's comment about "just getting out of Detroit" is pretty indicative of their effort this season imo.

Uncle Mxy
01-05-2008, 10:41 AM
I think Charlie Bell's still pissy about last year's contract negotiations, and is playing to screw the Bucks into trading him elsewhere. I bet the moment he makes it to another team, his shooting slump magically ends.

Cross

The team's mentality is the problem here i think. comments like bogut certainly dont help the team. and i think boguts having a pretty bad year compared to last. Charlie V isn't being utilized in the right way thank their coaching staff. Yi jianlian was probably the best draft pick and michael redd isn't getting shit from anyone else except mo williams.
