View Full Version : NHL Trade Rumors (Trade deadline is February 26th @ 3pm)
MoTown 12-07-2007, 11:03 AM (Doesn't have to be Red Wings related)
Neidermeyer is back in Anaheim, and Selanne said he would consider returning before the trade deadline.
Mats Sundin has always been one of my favorite non-Wings, and there's a chance he could be headed to Detroit if he wants. Apparently he says he wants to stay in Toronto, but the Toronto GM has been working with Holland where if he wants to come to a contender by the deadline, it will be with Detroit. Kind of a Ray Borque situation.
Shugadaddi 12-07-2007, 04:41 PM 14 goals and 22 assists already with a +12 on a shitty Toronto team...
Yeah, I guess he would be a good fit. There are only two problems:
1.) Would they have to start singing the Swedish National Anthem at home games? That would take our count up to 8 from the fine country of Sweden. We only have 7 Canadiens!!!
2.) Mickey Redmond has to be outlawed from from using the phrase "how Swede it is" when describing any unit that contains all Swedes. That just sucks. We have to be able to come up with something better than that.
H1Man 12-07-2007, 05:50 PM I wouldn't mind trading for Sundin but only if we were assured of re-signing him.
Wilfredo Ledezma 12-08-2007, 10:32 PM I wouldn't mind trading for Sundin but only if we were assured of re-signing him.
I heard some rumors that he want's to play here w/ all the Swedes, would probably cost us a guy like Filppula or Kopecky though...
H1Man 12-09-2007, 01:12 AM It would probably take something like Kindl + Hudler and a 2nd to have a shot at Sundin.
Zekyl 12-09-2007, 08:38 PM I'd be willing to give up Hudler and a second and someone else, but I don't know much about Kindl so I don't know if he'd be worth giving up. Anyone got info? I remember the name but I don't remember how good of a prospect he was going to be.
H1Man 12-09-2007, 10:24 PM One of my favorite prospects in our system.
Highly touted Jakub Kindl has the makings of an all-around star along the blue line. Kindl moves very well for a big man and owns excellent offensive potential. The young Czech has both the imposing size and excellent skating ability that scouts love. He has the capability to run the power play and displays plenty of offensive strengths. Last season, as a member of Pardubice (Czech Jr.), Kindl picked up 4 goals and added 14 assists in 48 games played. He also a turned in a +5 plus/minus rating and notched 108 penalty minutes. Kindl skates and moves the puck very well. In spite of his youth, Kindl is very mature, and has benefited greatly from the experience of playing against opponents two and three years older. Kindl will play for the Kitchener Rangers of the OHL this season, which should help him adapt quickly to the North American game.
Kindl is a player every scouts loves, a complete package. Jakub has the size, speed, strength, and maturity of a franchise blue-liner that you can build around. He is offensive enough to quarterback the power-play, and dependable enough to protect the lead late in the game. His potential is near limitless. Compares to Redden or a less aggressive Pronger.
H1Man 12-09-2007, 10:38 PM I should probably mention that he has been pretty bad this season in Grand Rapids, even being scratched a few times.
Zekyl 12-09-2007, 10:48 PM Ouch.... That may be why I haven't heard much about him since the preseason. I wonder what happened.
H1Man 12-09-2007, 10:53 PM Kindl has a history of slow starts but he has been particularly bad this season.
Zekyl 12-09-2007, 10:59 PM I need to find a list and review of our prospects. I've really gotten out of touch this season, I used to know all about everyone. Got any links for me?

Zekyl 12-09-2007, 11:09 PM MMmmmmmmm, I know what I'll be doing instead of working when I get back from vacation.
micknugget 12-10-2007, 11:03 PM I'm sorry but why in the hell would we give up a great youngster in Hudler, a top prospect, and a high draft pick for Sundin? I like the guy but we are already the best team in the league and I don't really see this helping us enough to be worth it.
Wilfredo Ledezma 12-11-2007, 12:10 AM I don't think Kenny Holland would give up Hudler for Sundin...Filppula- maybe, but definitely not Jiri...
Zekyl 12-11-2007, 12:13 PM I thought Filppula was the better prospect. Hudler had great minor league stuff but it didn't transfer to the pros as well as Filps stuff would, from what I remember reading a while back.
Wilfredo Ledezma 12-11-2007, 01:47 PM You could be right, hockey isn't my strength, I was of the impression the front office things VERY highly of Hudler, as if he will one day score 40 goals a season...
Your probably right though...
Right now, if it ain't broke don't fix it, this team is almost 10 points better than the next closest team, and unless an injury comes along, maybe keeping the roster as is, is the best thing to do...
Zekyl 12-11-2007, 10:29 PM Right now, if it ain't broke don't fix it, this team is almost 10 points better than the next closest team, and unless an injury comes along, maybe keeping the roster as is, is the best thing to do...
That's my thoughts. Unless we're getting him for dirt cheap, I'd like to stick with what we've got. The chemistry seems great, we're getting shit done, why mess it up.
WTFchris 12-12-2007, 12:03 PM I think Filpulla has a higher ceiling. He has better puck handling skills, and with more experience he could be a solid two way player like Hank is. He could also play just about anywhere up front, where as Hudler is only a winger.
Hudler is more like a Ray Sheppard type of player in my mind. He could be a 30 or 40 goal scorer some day, but is really just an offensive player. He's also pretty small, and is better suited as a 2nd/3rd line player where he won't get worn down by the Pronger's of the world.
Jethro34 01-15-2008, 07:46 PM Anyone hearing Rob Blake rumors? As in, to the Wings?
I wouldn't exactly mind it, but I'm liking the youth right now and don't want to ship prospects out anymore. We're finally getting production from young guys and the shift to the future is happening while the dinosaurs continue to extend their careers, but they can only go so long.
Zekyl 01-15-2008, 11:54 PM How good is Blake in the new NHL? He was an old school bruiser defenseman. He has the skills, but does he have the speed to keep up with the game these days? I haven't seen him in a while.
Jethro34 01-16-2008, 07:07 AM I'm pretty sure that's still his style. Not typical of new NHL, but still an asset. He's 38, I think, and still somewhat productive. It's hard to take his +/- seriously because he's been on a horrible Kings team. He has been their leader (or top two) in time on ice forever. I think he's out there 22 or 23 minutes per game. I'm not saying he would come in and be the guy with Lidstrom, but I'm quite certain he would be an upgrade over, say, Lilja.
Also, the "new" NHL, has it really taken over the postseason? Blake would certainly be an upgrade at some level. But, again, that's my question. Enough of an upgrade to give up young talent? I'm not so sure.
Zekyl 01-16-2008, 09:46 AM So he'd probably be on line 2 with Kronwall? Then Chelios and Lilja/Lebda on line 3? I could deal with that, but I don't want to give up the young guys to do that really. How much is he making? That could be the key thing here. Before, we could take on any contract we wanted and not worry, not so much anymore.
MoTown 01-16-2008, 09:54 AM I haven't seen anything on Blake, but I believe you, Jeth.
What I have seen is rumors of these two:
Sundin Rumors are heating up, and will get hotter as long as the Leafs continue to struggle. The leadership over there is talking like it's up to Holland to pull the trigger. They're talking about Mats like he's already gone.
Even more interesting is the Marian Hossa rumors. The Thrashers might be in selling mode come deadline time, and if you watched the game last night you know that Hossa lit the Wings up for a hat trick. He just turned 29, so he's still pretty young.
Zekyl 01-16-2008, 10:34 AM But what would it take to get those guys? If Hossa still had 2-3 years left on his deal, I'd be more willing to trade a few assets. Of the young guys, I don't want to se Filpulla going ANYWHERE. He's really been having a breakout year and he could turn into the next Datsyuk or Zetterberg for us.
MoTown 01-16-2008, 10:47 AM I trust Kenny Holland will know what to give up and what not to give up.
I'm also a huge fan of Franzen. Kenny knows how to construct a team, and I doubt he'll screw anything up.
H1Man 01-16-2008, 07:29 PM Given what it would cost us to acquire Sundin or Hossa (some combination of Filppula, Hudler, Kindl + prospect and picks), I say pass on those guys. And given their FA status, it wouldn't make much sense for us to be trading away our future.
I would much rather see us go after a Top 4 D (Kubina? Gill? Foote?)
Glenn 02-16-2008, 03:33 PM When is the NHL trade deadline?
MoTown 02-16-2008, 04:12 PM February 26th @ 3pm.
MoTown 02-16-2008, 04:13 PM This little losing streak may be good for the Wings. That way they might feel the need to acquire some firepower.
Wilfredo Ledezma 02-18-2008, 04:49 PM It's not going to happen, but I would give my pinky for the Wings to go grab Marian Hossa...guy's a stud...
pipe dream though
b-diddy 02-18-2008, 11:44 PM my roommate says wings might bring federov back. thats about the only thing that could pique my interest in the wings again. he was one of my favorites. i always thought he was missunderstood and underapreciated.
hes exactly what the wings need.
<------- has watched probably 5 wing games in 5 years.
Timone 02-18-2008, 11:58 PM i always thought he was missunderstood
:emo kid:
b-diddy 02-19-2008, 12:53 AM exactly, i remember when he had the 5 goal game against the capitals (i think) and everyone was like "federov is back!" as if he used to avg 5 goals a game.
he was an A+ defensive forward, skater, and puck handler. that was always true of him as a wing.
people always called him soft and said he should attack the net more, but thats a bit like saying jon kitna should have been scrambling more.
i think its funny how detroiters treat different athletes so differently. its like some guys cant win in this town.
Zekyl 02-19-2008, 08:22 AM people always called him soft and said he should attack the net more
Yet no one says that about Datsyuk or Zetterberg, and they play the exact same way.
detroitsportscity 02-19-2008, 09:23 AM Yet no one says that about Datsyuk or Zetterberg, and they play the exact same way.
Zetts - that's true. Datsyuk gets called soft more often than Charmin.
Glenn 02-19-2008, 09:26 AM Everyone was just jealous because he was banging a 16 year old Anna
Zekyl 02-19-2008, 02:08 PM Datsyuk doesnt get called out on it publicly NEARLY as much as Federov did. Everyone's just so amazed at his stickwork that they let it go a lot of times.
MoTown 02-19-2008, 02:10 PM I wouldn't say Zetterburg is all that soft, but Pavel definitely is. Neither of them are drama queens like Sergei, though.
WTFchris 02-19-2008, 02:15 PM I never had a problem with Federov's game at all. It was his personality that never clicked with fans. He gets bood now because he took less money to go elsewhere. I think he learned his lesson and would fit in. Talks are that we'd have to give up Kopecky (sp) for him. He hasn't really done much here yet, so that's not a lot to give up, but we don't have a ton of young scoring here as it is outside Hank/Pavel and occasionally Hudler. I also haven't seen Sergei at all this year. Has anyone?
Vinny 02-19-2008, 02:18 PM I like Fillipula, I hope he's not involved.
WTFchris 02-19-2008, 02:28 PM I like Fillipula, I hope he's not involved.
I agree. I think he could take the next step soon like Hank did.
Sergei had 9 points in 7 games before getting hurt, so he was playing well last month before getting a concussion. I'd probably trade Kopecky for him, who only has 9 points on the year and doesn't play defense like Segei does (at least he did here).
Zekyl 02-19-2008, 04:03 PM There is NO way they trade Valtteri Filppula for Sergei Federov, not even straight up one for one. Filp is worth so much more than Federov at this point, and I honestly think that by playoff time he'll be just as valuable as Sergei could be. He's 9th on the team in points and 5th on the team in goals, 3rd on the team in game winning goals and he tops the team in shooting percentage (not counting Hartigan who's only taken 3 shots), and that's on a team that's racking up a TON of scoring this year. He's easily one of my favorite players on the team.
Vinny 02-26-2008, 04:05 PM Like 20 trades today, nothing for the Wings so far. Stars picked up Brad Richards which makes them a little more of a threat.
