Catcher past this year.
Middle relief pitcher would be nice too.

RE: Inge as a backup catcher

• Now that the Tigers are on the verge of acquiring Miguel Cabrera from Florida, the consensus is that Detroit will have to trade third baseman Brandon Inge. But Inge has three years and $19.1 million left on his contract, so the Tigers would almost certainly have to assume a portion of that. The Giants, Phillies, Twins, Angels and Brewers are among the clubs in the market for a third baseman. One NL manager said he thinks Inge could return to catching, since he's a fine athlete and broke into the big leagues behind the plate. But Inge hasn't caught since 2004, so that's probably a long shot.

I highly doubt that Inge will be retained, especially given his salary.

Backup catcher
A new closer would be nice, but I don't think that's happening.

Who needs a closer when you're scoring 32 runs a game?

If those SP's stay healthy they all do a good job of eating 7 innings a night. If that is the case we should be able to hold down the fort ok with another minor RP pickup (probably for Inge).

4:03 p.m., from Jayson Stark

• After announcing the Miguel Cabrera trade Wednesday, the Tigers said they weren't sure whether they were going to trade Brandon Inge or keep him and make him a super-utility guy. Well, looks like they've figured that out. Clubs that spoke to the Tigers on Thursday report that they are telling clubs looking for a third baseman that he is available. The buzz is that at least two of those teams -- the Dodgers and Phillies -- have already said no. But the Tigers still appear to believe there's a market for Inge down the road.

They need to acquire whoever is necessary to make DD realize that Jason Grilli does not deserve to be one this team.

ie, bullpen help
Agreed on the long-term backup at C

In reality, I think the idea would be to target a handful of AA prospects to help ease the loss the farm system went through. We'll get guys that more than likely will never make it to the majors, but it's numbers in the system. People to field a team with around the 3-4 prospects we have left.

Jason Grilli is going to be on the team...let's not even go into that, Leyland treats him like a Marlboro coupon...

We re-signed Timmy Byrdak for one year.

Byrdak getting a one year deal, pretty much means we will not have to go through the "Macay McBride" expierment again...that Grand Slam Jack Cust hit off him still hasn't come down yet...
