The Tigers prolly should've won it all a couple of years ago. We come back and had a pretty good year but going into another season (08) with basically the same guys AINT gonna get it done. I think we could agree that DD felt that way anyway.

JoeD did whatever it took to get to the top. Now it seems like he has become complacent. The announcers were talking about how great JoeD was cuz we've won a ton of games over the last 5 years or something. That doesn't mean dog shit to me. Titles are what we strive for.

So JoeD keeps coming back with the same lineup and expects different results. DD did something. The Pistons have come back with the same lineup for 'what seems like' a million years now. Yea we have more 'potential' on the bench. But we are the same.

JoeD keeps saying 'I won't mortgage our future. I don't see Titles in our future so do something Joe...You've been bringing the same guys back for 4 years now. It aint gonna happen.

Yep.

Keep in mind that just because it's fun to make fun of Dave's last name, doesn't mean he isn't the man.

kinda apples and oranges. dd does what it takes to win, with this blessing of management. thats simply not the case w/ our basketball team.

but joe d also painted himself into a bit of a corner with the way he constructed the team, and basketball in general and the cba in particular is more restrictive than mlb.

i will say i've been pretty much as happy as could be with dd for some time now, and that hasnt been true with joe.

I'm sorry but let Dombrowski win a title first. He's grabbing big names and to Joe D's credit he grabbed guys who teams weren't so high on(Sheed, Billups, Hamilton, and Hayes this year). How many people were saying "I hate the Maggs pick up). Dombrowski is ballsy, but again let him win a title before you give him super kudos.

With that said Dontrell Willis is a premier Pitcher. I'd love to have him on the Cubs, so congrats.

Also keep in mind DD operates in a cap free system. Hard to compare sports like that.

Ken Holland trumps both of them...

but yes, I would put Dave Dombrowski ahead of Joe Dumars in the Local GM Rankings, and all 3 are amongst the Top 20 GM's in the 4 major sports IMO...

Millen has never even been in the "also receiving votes" portion...

and Danny Ainge is not on the list either...

Here's the thing though: if the Pistons crash in the playoffs this year, who gives a shit? It's what they've been doing for a while now, and we will enjoy every minute of it up to that point. If the Tigers crash in the playoffs, there's going to be an army of guys lining up for Dombrowski's head. And maybe you'll be one of them!

i dont know how you can say ken holland trumps both of them. he inherrited a near perfect team with a blank check and steadilly regressed.

i dont think you can say the championship is the difference between joe and DD. basketball, the best team generally wins. or atleast the team that should win generally does.

not true in baseball. i doubt even cardinal fans thought there team was better than the 06 tigers. the rockies were nothing special. its just having the right mix of talent and chemistry, and also getting hot at the right time.

more like leyland's head. unless a glaring weakness develops and dumbroski ignores it, i dont think you could possibly criticize him. and no, todd jones is not a glaring weakness.

I still don't understand the Jones signing (when other closers were out there for similar money, with more years), but it makes more sense with the Marlins trade we did. DD might not have done that deal with a closer locked up for a few years. He knows Pudge and Jones will be off the books next year and free up money.

I like the Nazr trade as well.

As far as DD goes, I'd still like to get an lock down closer and another quality middle relief arm for next season.
