Last Meeting: Detroit won 92-91 (November 4, 2007)

The skinny: Good thing the Hawks came into the season with unusual depth at point guard. Both Tyronn Lue and Speedy Claxton have missed time and weren’t available Monday night when Atlanta won at Philadelphia. But veteran Anthony Johnson and lottery pick Acie Law didn’t do much in their absence, either, combining to shoot 1 for 13 in 39 minutes, though Law did have five assists. Center Zaza Pachulia, who missed the Pistons’ Nov. 4 win at The Palace, got knocked in the jaw in the first game of Monday’s game and didn’t return after suffering concussion-like symptoms. The Hawks will still have their full stable of athletes – Joe Johnson, Marvin Williams, Josh Smith, Josh Childress and Al Horford – who cause the Pistons problems. After a promising start, the Hawks were on a seven-game losing streak until the Philly win and stand at 7-9 going into tonight’s game.

What to watch: The Pistons have been playing superbly since Rasheed Wallace returned from a minor knee injury, winning three straight games by an average margin of 27 points. Jason Maxiell has been especially impressive off the bench, and his athleticism will be a valuable counter to Atlanta’s frontcourt weapons. Chauncey Billups should dominate Atlanta’s point guards, though it’s possible the Hawks will choose to let Johnson or Childress run the offense to get more size on the floor and play without a conventional point guard for stretches. When the Pistons won a month ago at The Palace, they got two huge baskets down the stretch from Jarvis Hayes when Atlanta chose to guard Billups with a bigger player and tried to hide Lue on Hayes. Even though it will be the Pistons’ third game in four nights in three different cities – with a fourth game in five nights in a fourth city looming Wednesday at New Orleans – they benefit from the fact that it was Atlanta playing and traveling on Monday night in addition to the Saturday and Sunday blowout wins that allowed them to give their starters generous rest.

Are you going to have a 1 man game chat on here too Glenn?

Looks that way.

I know there is a lot going on today, but I can't be the only one that's looking forward to this tonight, can I?

Maybe I'll post some Flip Murray pictures to stimulate some hatred/conversation.

I would be, but I can't watch it. I'll be focusing on the Wings game tonight. It's too bad, because I'd like to see the Hawks with the way Smith has improved and the rooks they added.

Why you gotta watch hockey? Just focus on Flip Saunders's haircut, and pretend you're watching hockey.

Hollinger says he's going to the Pistons/Hawks game tonight.

I suppose we can expect either a raving or damning column from him depending on how they play.

They better be on their best PERhavior tonight.

Hollinger? Good, this way we can have statistical evidence that due to Palace hot dogs mustard to ketchup ratio, there's no damn way the Pistons can do well in the playoffs.

I'm thinking about staying up late for this one; I think it'll be a fun game to watch.

I think I'm catching a movie with a friend, so I'll miss the game, unfortunately.

Missed most of the game because I've been busy pissing my pants because of the Tiger's trade.

Pistons looked great in the second half. I wish they could stay playing like this all year.

PERhavior (Nice!)

ps. Tell Flip that garbage time is not Flip Murray time.

Good game, and some nice Amir highlights. Disappointed though, with how the pace of the game seemed to get a little out of control every time Lindsey was on court. I know Atlanta still sucks, but a team like that can take advantage of mistakes that happen because the ball isn't under control.

I was flipping through channels last night and they showed a live look-in on the ESPN NBA show. It was the fourth quarter, so flip murray was jacking. It started with him dribbling down the court and bricking a 3pt. shot without even looking to pass, then someone turned it over (maybe murray) and the hawks made up about 6 pts during the stint.

I wonder if there is another backcourt combo with lower offensive basketball iq then murray/hunter. I can't believe people think that hunter is coach material. I can just imagine him instructing players on how to lead a fast break.

Otherwise, looking forward to the next pistons game on national tv- at some point, they must have must have to pay the piper for such an easy early schedule.
