Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor has fallen into a coma following surgery for a life-threatening gunshot wound suffered early Monday morning at his South Miami home, FOXSports.com has learned.

Taylor "flatlined" twice during the surgery, the NFL Network reported.

Redskins officials are en route to South Florida to visit Taylor.
One source said there is a concern Taylor suffered brain damage from the loss of blood and may not survive. "It doesn't look good," the source said. "But he's young, strong and extra healthy. That's what he's got going for him."

I can't believe how bad this is. When I heard "shot in the leg" I just kind of rolled my eyes. This is really serious.

Apparantly a week ago someone broke into the house and left a knife (possibly a machete) on his bed. Due to that Sean went back there since he is injured to watch over the house, and they came back for him.

Kind of pieced that together from TV and some links. I hope he pulls through OK. I hate the 'Skins with a passion but you have to look past sports in these situations.

Well, I forgot who brought it up in here but someone had left a kitchen knife on his pillow after breaking into his house a week or so ago.

I have a S&W .44mag, but that would shoot right through walls, unless I use ammo that barely makes it to the end of the barrel. I have a 9 and a .357 ready and waiting.

Sean Taylor's attty just said they strongly believe that the peeps in the incident between Taylor and ??? crew a couple of years ago were involved with this. They have turned over ALL of their records to police.

He was on probation due to the incident you mentioned in your next post so he couldn't legally have a gun. What I think is messed up is that because his life is public, any athlete at that, the media basically advertised 'Hey heres a rich guy who cant own a gun!'

jason whitlock used to be the best sports writer in the biz for a brief period (after hunter s thompson died, before whitlock left espn). since he left espn, he has been borderline unreadable, but generally dead on.

there is something seriously wrong in society today, and whitlock has dedicated himself towards addressing that. like most issues, whitlock is using taylor's death to address broader themes.

right now race seems to be trapped in the right/left paradigm, which might explain why 40 years after A.A. it appears we might be moving backwards. furthermore, i dont think most of america is ready to discuss the race issue at an adult level.

incidentally, it was trivia night at the bar and one of thte team's names was "sean taylor... doubtful for sunday".

Apparantly the guy who shot him (Rivera) did yardwork and some other odd jobs around the house for extra cash. They say they didn't expect him to be home when they broke in. Technically they shot in the direction of his gf and baby which is pretty fucked up.
