Rasheed injury update

Posted by A. Sherrod Blakely November 21, 2007 21:29PM

AUBURN HILLS -- Rasheed Wallace's left knee injury, which kept him out of the second half of Wednesday's 98-86 win over New York, shouldn't keep him out of the lineup on Friday against Philadelphia. But the Pistons aren't taking any chances.

Detroit coach Flip Saunders said Wallace will probably undergo some tests in the next couple days to determine if there's anything more to the injury than the knee just being sore.

Wallace said his left knee collided with another player a couple games ago.

"It ain't nothing major," said Wallace, who later added, "I tried to go ahead and play through it, but tonight it was jut bothering me a little too frequently."

When asked about whether he'll have an MRI performed tomorrow, Wallace said, "it depends on how I feel in the morning."

Philadelphia (3-7) at Detroit (7-4)

Injuries to several players over the last two weeks have caused the Detroit Pistons to stumble.

Hoping to have everyone back healthy on Friday, the Pistons look to continue their recent mastery of the struggling Philadelphia 76ers.

The Pistons (7-4) have won 11 of the last 13 against the 76ers (3-7), including three of four last season. Their only loss came at The Palace of Auburn Hills on April 15, when Detroit rested its starters extensively after having already clinched a spot in the playoffs.

The Pistons hopes to have all their players back on Friday after playing short-handed recently. Point guard Chauncey Billups missed two games last week because of a right hip pointer and a sore left knee, while forward Antonio McDyess missed three games with a strained left shoulder.

McDyess returned to the lineup on Wednesday to help Detroit avoid a three-game losing streak with a 98-86 win over the New York Knicks. McDyess had a season-high 20 points and six rebounds while Billups had season highs of 25 points and 15 assists.

"It definitely feels good to have McDyess back," said Billups, who logged 35 minutes. "I made an effort to get him going early so that he wouldn't feel any effects of the injury."

Detroit got out to an early lead and closed the first quarter with a 15-4 run to take a 36-23 lead. The Pistons led by as many as 21 in improving to 3-0 at home.

"That notoriously has been a trademark of this team, a slow starting team out of the blocks," coach Flip Saunders said. "We've talked through training camps and through the whole year about getting better starts and they have."

Detroit hopes to have Rasheed Wallace back in the lineup Friday after he missed the second half of Wednesday's game because of a sore left knee. Wallace, who is averaging 15.2 points and 7.2 rebounds, said the injury wasn't serious.

While things are looking up for the Pistons, the misery in Philadelphia continues. After snapping a four-game losing streak with a 92-88 win over the Portland Trail Blazers last Friday, the Sixers fell 116-101 on Tuesday to the Washington Wizards.

Louis Williams scored 20 of his career-high 25 points in the second half for Philadelphia, which got just 38 points out of its starters.

Andre Iguodala was the only starter to reach double figures with 10 points and added five assists as the 76ers trailed by as many as 37 points in falling to 1-4 on the road.

"It's just the same old thing," said Iguodala, who is just 12-for-38 from the field in his last three games and averaging 12.3 points in that span. "It's like mass confusion out there on the court early in the game for a few minutes. And then they just jumped out on us. I think the whole game we were just never really on the same page. They just played basic basketball and we were just awful."

The 76ers allowed the Wizards to shoot 57.3 percent despite the absence of All-Star guard Gilbert Arenas.

"Our defense was horrendous," coach Maurice Cheeks said. "We got back on our heels again."

The Sixers have lost seven of their last 10 trips to Detroit.

Nope, that would be 28-24.

If the Pistons' D shows up...

I just remembered seeing a similar score predicted in the last few pistons threads, wasn't sure if it was you or not.

Screw My20 and its lack of being available in Toledo!

SAMB ALERT

Pistons vs. 76ers Gameday

:langlois:
by Keith Langlois

TV: TV20 Detroit (HDTV) | Radio: WDFN 1130 AM - The Fan

Last Meeting: Philadelphia won 102-91 (April 15, 2007)

The skinny: After finishing last season strong, the 76ers came into this one thinking they could contend for a playoff spot. But Philly is off to a 3-7 start and has lost five of its last six, including a 15-point blowout loss at Washington without Gilbert Arenas on Tuesday. Emerging star Andre Igoudala is averaging 17.5 points, 6.3 rebounds and 5.0 assists a game. With Allen Iverson gone, he’s now Philly’s best player. Andre Miller is off to an unremarkable start, averaging 4.2 assists a game, just a little more than half of his career norm. Reggie Evans was brought in over the summer to give them some needed toughness and rebounding up front. Louis Williams, the third-year guard who came to the NBA from high school in the last class that could do so, has become the sixth man and is averaging 10 points a game in 19 minutes.

What to watch: The Pistons might exercise caution with Rasheed Wallace and let him sit one out after his left knee, which he said he bumped into another player’s knee on the West Coast road trip, gave him trouble in Wednesday’s win over New York. Wallace shut it down at halftime of that game. Even if Wallace dresses tonight, it’s possible the Pistons would make Cheikh Samb active over Lindsey Hunter in case Wallace is again limited. Rip Hamilton’s six turnovers in 29 minutes against the Knicks showed he hasn’t yet hit his stride. The Pistons will be looking to keep their spotless home record – 3-0 – intact.

Also Reggie Evans alert.

Wear your cups tonight, boys.

Afflalo continues to impress me. I think the dude will have a legit NBA career as a solid role player off the bench. he's tenacious on D and he can score baskets.

i'm really loving the extended PT the bench mob gets. even the most ardent Flip-hater has to admit that he's kept to his word on playing the bench this season.

highlight of the game was Mad Max dancing in the center of the pregame huddle, replacing Sheed. then the camera cutting to Sheed laughing his ass off.
