View Full Version : Official: What did you eat for Thanksgiving thread? MikeMyers 11-20-2007, 08:46 PM Thinking about consuming 10k calories on Thursday. Will report my consumption on Friday. Timone 11-20-2007, 08:52 PM I'm probably going to eat a turkey. Alive. Big Swami 11-20-2007, 09:39 PM I don't eat meat, but I will have to in order to be a good Buddhist. See, the thing is that you shouldn't crow about being a vegetarian just so that you feel superior to other people. So to make them feel comfortable, I will have to eat meat so that they won't feel like I'm trying to lecture them. geerussell 11-21-2007, 01:32 AM I don't eat meat, but I will have to in order to be a good Buddhist. See, the thing is that you shouldn't crow about being a vegetarian just so that you feel superior to other people. So to make them feel comfortable, I will have to eat meat so that they won't feel like I'm trying to lecture them. I'm pretty sure that uncomfortable look you get from around the table is pity for the poor, meatless fellow. Pity mixed with "more meat for me" glee. Mostly glee. Glenn 11-21-2007, 05:04 AM Hey, Mike Myers is back. Uncle Mxy 11-21-2007, 08:16 AM I don't eat meat, but I will have to in order to be a good Buddhist. See, the thing is that you shouldn't crow about being a vegetarian just so that you feel superior to other people. So to make them feel comfortable, I will have to eat meat so that they won't feel like I'm trying to lecture them. Translation: I will willingly defile myself to the level of the common man because that turkey is GOOD! :) Big Swami 11-21-2007, 08:31 AM Honestly I'm not even sure I can digest it. I will have to take it easy. Glenn 11-21-2007, 08:32 AM I suggest that you "warm up" by taking the turkey baster and injecting some gravy where the sun don't shine. Timone 11-21-2007, 08:34 AM And don't shave your ass hair before doing so. Fool 11-21-2007, 09:24 AM I'm not sure there are many people who would be all "Dave's coming and I bet that sonofabitch just eats the salad again! What an ass with his high and mighty 'healthy' eating habits." The idea of being worried about it seems a little overly prideful in fact. Especially in today's society. Though it does go along with your "I hide the Buddha when company comes." and you know the people you will be around better than we do. Cranberries aren't meat, yams aren't meat, stuffing isn't meat, salad (if its there) isn't meat, mashed potatoes aren't meat (and plenty of those aren't prepared using fats or juices that come from meat products). They don't serve sides where you are going? Babies dressed as turkeys. They don't serve sides where you are going? I'm spending my Thanksgiving with Polaks, dude. The 4 food groups of the Polak are Pork, Butter, Cabbage, and Dough. Timone 11-21-2007, 09:34 AM You're Polish-Indian? MikeMyers 11-21-2007, 09:53 AM I'll be at the Lions game also so I will eat a couple hot dogs. Big Swami 11-21-2007, 10:01 AM I'll be at the Lions game also so I will eat a couple hot dogs. Lucky.:emo kid: Timone 11-21-2007, 10:44 AM Well, I'm thinking I'm going to just eat whatever we have in the green and white tent tomorrow. Timone 11-21-2007, 12:40 PM I don't drink but I'm thinking about getting wasted tomorrow, because I don't like doing the whole family get together shit. Tahoe 11-21-2007, 01:24 PM I'm cooking the Turkey today, cuz I'm voluteering through the night cooking more Turkeys. So tomorrow should be just eating Turkey, mash potatoes and gravy, stuffing...tradish, not much cooking. Timone 11-21-2007, 01:25 PM Tell Zekyl's girlfriend to cook that shit. All she does is lay around. Fool 11-21-2007, 01:38 PM And watch fashion shows. And take it up the ass from Z, allegedly. Timone 11-21-2007, 01:42 PM Which begs the question: why would Zekyl allow fashion shows to be on? Uncle Mxy 11-21-2007, 04:34 PM I'll be at the Lions game also so I will eat a couple hot dogs. My uncle's supposed to be there. He's hoping to eat Green Bay Cheese. Timone 11-21-2007, 04:43 PM Favre's gonna eat the Lions D. Glenn 11-21-2007, 04:48 PM I had turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, rolls and then some carbs. Pumpkin pie, too. It was delicious. None of that cranberry shit. (This post is postdated for tomorrow afternoon) Timone 11-21-2007, 04:49 PM How...traditional. ZzZzZzZzZzZz Glenn 11-21-2007, 04:51 PM ZzZzZzZzZzZz Somma that too. Damn turkey sleep chemical that I know how to say, but not spell. Timone 11-21-2007, 04:53 PM tryptophan. pwned. Glenn 11-21-2007, 04:56 PM if lazy = pwned, then yes, in spades UxKa 11-21-2007, 05:01 PM Will be making turkey, ham, mashed potatos, green bean cassorole, cranberry sauce, sweet potatos, homemade bread, a meat/cheese/cracker/vegetable/dip platter, stuffing, rolls, pumpkin pie, and I think that's it. All for four people :) Tahoe 11-21-2007, 05:02 PM The stuffing with giblets is the key to any Turkey day for me. Timone 11-21-2007, 05:09 PM Will be making turkey, ham, mashed potatos, green bean cassorole, cranberry sauce, sweet potatos, homemade bread, a meat/cheese/cracker/vegetable/dip platter, stuffing, rolls, pumpkin pie, and I think that's it. All for four people :) fatties Glenn 11-21-2007, 05:11 PM Ok, giblets are nasty. Second, I seem to recall that UxKa weighs about a buck twenty. Timone 11-21-2007, 05:15 PM Pics or it didn't happen. Timone 11-21-2007, 06:32 PM Pumpkin pie and poontang pie hopefully. Glenn 11-21-2007, 06:42 PM Pumpkin pie and poontang pie hopefully. I thought you said you didn't like your family? Timone 11-21-2007, 06:49 PM I may or may not spend the day at my better ho's place. Glenn 11-21-2007, 06:50 PM It got weird. Timone 11-21-2007, 06:50 PM This convo never happened. MikeMyers 11-21-2007, 10:24 PM Tonite I got pizza. Then I had a piece of pumpkin pie. Then I ate some ice cream. I'm done for the night. I'm going to exercise some of this off on my stationary bike. Will report tomorrow night with my thanksgiving meal. UxKa 11-22-2007, 12:03 AM Second, I seem to recall that UxKa weighs about a buck twenty. More than that. But yeah nobody is fat in my family, we just can eat a lot. DrRay11 11-22-2007, 08:20 AM I'm not sure what's on the menu, but chances are it will all be delicious. I'll give an update later. DrRay11 11-22-2007, 05:55 PM Update: No Turducken... Turkey, corn, mashed taters, stuffing, noodles, dinner rolls, pumpkin pie, cheesecake, a few other stellar desserts.... Overall, I would have to give it an A. It was all delicious. Uncle Mxy 11-22-2007, 06:42 PM Turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, apples, cranberry sauce (but I really don't like too much cranberry), sweet potato pie, giblet and non-giblet gravy, yummy! UxKa 11-22-2007, 07:38 PM Will be making turkey, ham, mashed potatos, green bean cassorole, cranberry sauce, sweet potatos, homemade bread, a meat/cheese/cracker/vegetable/dip platter, stuffing, rolls, pumpkin pie. Minus the homemade bread, I didn't get around to it last night. Plus deviled eggs, little sausages fried in beer, and asparagus. MikeMyers 11-22-2007, 11:38 PM Pizza 2 bagels with cream cheese turkey mashed potatos/gravy cranberries stuffing coleslaw hot chocolate cheesecake pecan pie Just a partial list. Give me a day to calculate everything. Also, eating while I type this. DE 11-23-2007, 05:36 AM Pumpkin Soup Deviled Eggs Turkey Stuffing Mashed Potatoes Mac & Cheese Ice Cream Cake Lots of red wine It was all made by this guy who's about to open his own restaurant. Everything, other than the soup which someone else made and the cake which was bought, he prepared himself. Best damn Thanksgiving dinner I've ever had here. Zekyl 11-23-2007, 01:47 PM Which begs the question: why would Zekyl allow fashion shows to be on? She was watching that Project Runway show. I had my back to the TV so I really didn't care what she was watching. As long as she was content with me ignoring her and posting on WTFDetroit. Timone 11-23-2007, 01:50 PM Zekyl, what did YOU eat for Thanksgiving? I'm hoping pie, but not pumpkin pie if you know what I mean. Zekyl 11-23-2007, 01:56 PM Hey now, its Thanksgiving. You think I did any work? I don't know where you come from but in my household, the women do the serving on this holiest of days. I just relaxed and enjoyed. Zekyl 11-23-2007, 01:57 PM Pics or it didn't happen Just thought I'd save you the time :) Timone 11-23-2007, 02:00 PM You think I did any work? I don't know where you come from but in my household, a hard working Ukrainian-American family, FYI!!!! Zekyl 11-23-2007, 02:04 PM Ahhhh. Nice to know. Over here: half-German, quarter-Italian, not sure what else. Timone 11-23-2007, 02:06 PM You live in America, therefore your connections to Germany and Italy are, you know... Zekyl 11-23-2007, 02:07 PM Oh yes, this I know. But I do have family still in those countries. I'm not too many generations removed. Timone 11-23-2007, 02:10 PM Quit diverting the attention from you not posting pics of your girlfriend. and Appalachian State Glenn 11-24-2007, 02:41 PM I rediscovered Hawaiian Punch on Thanksgiving. I tried a little bit and it was really good, so I drank half of the 2 liter before I realized how much better it would be with some vodka. If you can get past the red mustache, it's a solid option. Tahoe 11-24-2007, 08:38 PM Finishing up with the Turkey, I made Turkey Lasagna. It was actually pretty good. UxKa 11-24-2007, 11:20 PM Hey now, its Thanksgiving. You think I did any work? I don't know where you come from but in my household, the women do the serving on this holiest of days. I just relaxed and enjoyed. You let women cook and carve the turkey? I don't know where you come from but in my household, the men cook all the meat especially if it involves a grill and double especially if the grill is powered by charcoal. Aside from that the chicks did almost everything though... I did throw the instant rolls in the oven and in true style I left them in for 20 minutes instead of 6-8. UxKa 11-24-2007, 11:21 PM I rediscovered Hawaiian Punch on Thanksgiving. I tried a little bit and it was really good, so I drank half of the 2 liter before I realized how much better it would be with some vodka. If you can get past the red mustache, it's a solid option. Be careful... there's a lot of vitamin C in there and you know what too much C does. Timone 11-24-2007, 11:37 PM You let women cook and carve the turkey? His girlfriend has to do something... Glenn 11-25-2007, 05:58 AM Be careful... there's a lot of vitamin C in there and you know what too much C does. No scurvy for me! Uncle Mxy 11-25-2007, 07:26 AM You let women cook and carve the turkey? I don't know where you come from but in my household, the men cook all the meat especially if it involves a grill and double especially if the grill is powered by charcoal. For many of the women in my family, the kitchen is THEIR domain. If the bird is to be cooked in the kitchen, I stay the fuck out of the way and let them cook it. If two alpha females of the kitchen occupy the same space, I stay away and enjoy the inevitable firewokrs. I don't need the headaches. Zekyl 11-25-2007, 11:17 AM His girlfriend has to do something... True that! I made her ass bake me some cookies the yesterday. Also, we were watching the wings game and she once again waited until intermission to initiate anything. I don't know what to do, I'm not used to a situation like this. Is this all part of some elaborate scheme that's going to fuck me over in the end? Zekyl 11-25-2007, 11:18 AM For many of the women in my family, the kitchen is THEIR domain. If the bird is to be cooked in the kitchen, I stay the fuck out of the way and let them cook it. If two alpha females of the kitchen occupy the same space, I stay away and enjoy the inevitable firewokrs. I don't need the headaches. Indeed. It was in the oven in the kitchen, not on a grill, therefore it is not the man's domain. Now, when the family gets together and we cook up steaks or porkchops or grilled chicken, then the man cooks the meat. geerussell 11-25-2007, 07:46 PM The standard turkey, etc etc... the real highlight was the late-evening run to white castle. Big Swami 11-26-2007, 08:23 AM I stayed up at a farm in the U.P., and they killed a turkey for the occasion. I wasn't there when it went down, and I didn't eat any. Glenn 11-26-2007, 12:55 PM Just curious, how many days do you guys think that turkey leftovers are viable? (spoilage-wise) UxKa 11-26-2007, 12:58 PM Just curious, how many days do you guys think that turkey leftovers are viable? (spoilage-wise) I'd say they are on their last leg. [smilie=totlach.gif] Glenn 11-26-2007, 12:59 PM Oof. Hermy 11-26-2007, 01:33 PM Just curious, how many days do you guys think that turkey leftovers are viable? (spoilage-wise) Supposing you got it back into the refridgerator within a couple of hours after carving, you should be good for 6 days. Other exposures would lend to lessened durability. If time approaches, put it into a salty soup. Tahoe 11-26-2007, 01:45 PM White meat for sammies, dark meat for dinner WTFchris 11-26-2007, 01:49 PM I only like the dark meat mixed in with the stuffing. Otherwise White meat is superior. Zekyl 11-26-2007, 06:41 PM Agreed. I'm definitely a white meet guy. Zip Goshboots 11-26-2007, 06:46 PM White meat for sammies, dark meat for dinner Genius. Pure genius. geerussell 11-28-2007, 09:38 AM Properly cooked white meat is the best but most people overcook and dry it out. Dark is the safe bet unless you can vouch for the cook. Big Swami 11-28-2007, 10:06 AM The best part about Thanksgiving is the caraway rye bread from the Jewish bakery we eat every year. The flavor of caraway seeds instantly reminds me of Thanksgiving and that bread makes the best sandwiches. Wizzle 11-26-2008, 04:03 PM bump get the fat pants ready boys Glenn 11-26-2008, 04:49 PM kinda related, kinda not I saw a commercial for JC Penney this morning that said they are opening at 4 am on Friday. That's fucking ridiculous. Wilfredo Ledezma 11-26-2008, 08:29 PM I'm not gonna lie, I've NEVER had dark meat. It's never been offered at my Thanksgivings, for some reason. And I'll just end it before it starts, there's no correlation here between McCain/Obama...so don't. |
