DETROIT — In another blow to the Motor City's tarnished image, Detroit pushed past St. Louis to become the nation's most dangerous city, according to a private research group's controversial analysis, released Sunday, of annual FBI crime statistics.

I want to try to put this in perspective for everyone: 2 years ago, a natural disaster wiped out a major American city. Since then, gangs, wild dogs and flesh-eating zombies have roamed the streets 24 hours a day, ambushing the beleagered residents for their belongings or a taste of their blood.

But at least it isn't Detroit. Detroit is worse.

im about ready to give up hope for detroit.

i dont know what people are saying in detroit, but ive heard some "insider info" that ford is fucked, as in its over fucked.

i mean, right now they are openly peddling off their only profitable divisions, so i guess its almost believable, in an unbelievable sort of way (not that i honestly think ford is gone, but ford as we know it might be over sooner than people were thinking).

but atleast we have a brand spanking new casino and the global headquarters of a subprime lender (aka the scum of the earth and the cause of the new economy's current state of fucked upness).

The sad state of affairs gets worse I guess. I was watching Detroit SWAT the other day BTW. That doesn't help the image either.

At least we hosted a Super Bowl...Chicago can't say the same...

...and Chicago got a free pass in the rankings...

The study excluded Chicago, Minneapolis, and other Illinois and Minnesota cities because of incomplete data.

im about ready to give up hope for detroit.

I'm with you. The corridor from downtown through the wayne state remains an island of growth and development... but the other 90% or so of the city is circling the drain.

Don't forget animal cops too. The show is dumb, but if it is Detroit I change the channel because I'm just going to see abused pits and that makes my dog sad at the tv.

They've been peddling their profitable divisions ever since Trotman spun off The Associates (back when Ford was the #1 lending institution in the world just a decade ago).

funny.

Either way I dont care about the title, and anyone who forms an opinion based on it is retarded. With that said yea Detroit needs some serious work, obvious overstatement. And yes the only part they are willing to fix is Downtown, yes thats taken longer than it should because of retarded lawsuits and cheesy half ass casinos getting the ok to be built over bigger more grand casinos.

How could there be "incomplete data"...

This is why I hated taking ECON classes...no data is ever accurate

If 5 out of 10 people are considered "obese", Economists then assume that 5,000 out of every 10,000 our "obese"...all numbers, rankings, and formulas are skewed...

Detroit just does not eff around. Was this the 3rd decap situation?

DETROIT -- The Wayne County Police Department is investigating the discovery of a decapitated man’s body inside a manhole on Monday morning.

The Wayne County Water Department told Local 4 they found the headless body in a manhole in an alley near Kercheval and Montclair streets on Detroit’s eastside.

The water department said it was called to the area to investigate reports of backed up sewage.

When people ask me what it's like in Detroit, this is how I explain it:

When you're in NYC, sometimes you gotta worry about being bonked upside the head and getting got for your wallet, depending on what neighborhood you're in and what time of day it is.

When you're in Boston, sometimes you gotta worry about being hit by a baseball bat for wearing the wrong clothes or not carefully choosing your words. Lots of local pride in Boston. They may or may not take your wallet afterward as an afterthought.

When you're in Detroit, sometimes you gotta worry motherfuckers are going to chop your head off, for no particular reason except that it seemed like the thing to do. They don't even know if you have a wallet.

This kind of reporting really bothers me.

There are hundreds, maybe thousands, of people in the Detroit area that don't end up getting their heads severed.

This really adds to the negative image of Detroit.

I look it as a positive. These corpses prolly deserved it. Detroit is just making itself a better place to live.

I was just in detroit for Thanksgiving, and I lost my wallet.
Someone returned it in tact. I guess I'm lucky I didn't see him find it, I might have lost my head over the situation.

The key point here was that he was driving his school bus with kids in tow when he solicited the undercover cop.
