I'm talking about 50 on Durant. He'll have at least 30 more on everybody else.

It was 32-14 and SS went on a 10-2 run or so. We were ready to go up 20 and we lost most of that. 43-28. A game of lil runs, but Pistons shooting good again tonight.

So the game is on NBATV, yet the college student center has NBATV password protected. What is that about? Guess the NBA Audio League Pass feed will have to do.

Sounds like we're doing well, and Jarvis is getting some nice looks at the basket.

Tahoe

Jarvis is creating his own shots. He backed a guy down then a nice fallaway. I'm impressed with him.

Flip is being stupid tonight, imo.

Rip is hot, JH is hot so Nazr and Amir shoot from the free throw line. Dumb.

Amir is back underneath now and just fought for a nice board and put back.

Rasheed kind of grimaced a lil bit and he hasn't played since so I'm hoping he'll be starting the 3rd quarter.

MoTown

What the hell was that last night?

It was like Flip wasn't even coaching. I swear I was watching a pickup game for the entire fourth quarter. It was 3 pointer after 3 pointer, 18 seconds left on the shot clock... and the Pistons were ahead! Poor effort by the team altogether. They play great through 3 quarters, but then decided winning wasn't fun enough.

Sorry for the rant - they just looked like a very bad team in the last quarter. The only reason they won is because Seattle is so inexperienced they don't know how to win the close games.

If it's all right, I'm going to add a rant of my own:

I try not to just rip on Saunders but I felt he was at least half to blame for that let down. With 5 minutes left in the 3rd and the Pistons up by 17 he has all 5 starters on the floor! I'm as far from a basketball genius as there is but I'm thinking, "why is he letting his starters tire out and get bored?" Afflalo hadn't played a minute, Hays had been decent in the first half as well as Murray, Nazr and Max...play the damn bench! They're going to be hungrier to keep the lead and in a worst case scenario, if they screw it up you go back to your starters. No, Seattle started their comeback when the starters got bored, then he went to the bench a bit once the Sonics already had momentum and we were left with having to ride the starters to finish out the game.

Again, I try not to carp too much about Saunder's coaching since there's just nothing we can do...but man was he awful in the second half last night.

I don't know if I really put much blame on the Pistons almost blowing the lead...how many years now have we been seeing things like that???

As long as they get the W when they do that, I'm content.

This is his usual substitution pattern.

He plays the starters most or all of the 3rd. The bench comes in either very late 3rd quarter or early 4th. Then like halfway through the 4th the starters come in.

Basically he subs the 2nd half as if it was the 1st half, often-times erasing whatever good we did in the 3rd quarter. THe problem is the game ends at the end of the 4th quarter.

I wish he'd sub in the bench halfway through the third, then bring the starters back in early in the 4th.

DE

Especially last nights game, where they were up by so much. I mean, when do you get a better chance to play your bench and see how they'll do? Like I said before even if the lead gets cut down while the 2nd unit guys are out you've still rested your starters and if the bench guys maintain the lead, well, you can even ride them out and give the starters a rest.

We were up 20(?) at times in the first, up 25(?) in the second, up 20 again in the 3rd at times and Seattle ties the game with under 2 in the 4th. Seattle has been coming back on teams, so I kind of expected them to come back just not tie it.

I'm just going to say we won the 1st game of our West Coast RT and move on.

DE
11-12-2007, 01:07 PM
You're definitely right that the most important thing was the win. And it is an away win on a West Coast trip. It was just something that really stuck out with me last night and I also feel that the Pistons the last couple of years have a problem with find ways to cut the legs out of an opponent that's trying to gain momentum. Again, it's not big deal now in November.

Tahoe

It did look like when Thomas came in the game (1st minutes this year???) that sheed was more concerned with bullshitin with him than shutting him down. He gave him way too much room on his shots.

I know Seattle is 0-7 but you can't go to sleep on them. They don't give up.

Yeah, there was a lot of half-ass play in the 2nd half...we were like the Wizards...

I would just like to see Amir get 12-15 min/game. Play Sheed and Max at the same time when Dyess takes a break and then bring in Dyess and Amir at the same time.
Tayshaun looked disinterested last night vs the Sonics, whereas Hayes was playing with a lot of passion and hitting a lot of his shots.

Here's the problem with Flip Saunders. He has no 'feel' for the game. What I mean by this is that he just doesn't have the instinct many other coaches have. For example, it seems he always calls a timeout 2 or 3 plays too late when the opposition scores a few more baskets. He's not in tune with sensing a shift in momentum and changing his game plan during the game. Last night vs the Sonics, how many damn 3s did we jack up when we had the big lead?? Put in Amir or Nazr or pound it down low to Maxiel.

Also, last night was another example of Flip relying on his starters too much. Hayes was playing very well and Tay needed to be sat down but he still got his 34 min. or whatever. Hayes should've played 22-25 min. last night with the way he was playing.

Joe D. please coach this team or give it to Laimbeer. He would at least be animated and instill some passion into our games.

umichjenks: exactly. Flip overthinks the game, he's a huge nerd who can't go with the flow. He follows a static plan for every game, and he is incapable of detecting dynamic shifts in the game. How many times have you said to yourself something like "o shit, Dyess is in the zone! Wait...is he coming out of the game?" He has no ability to detect when a player catches fire or if he's stone cold. He's got some rare form of Asperger's Syndrome that only affects people as they watch basketball games.

Flip Murray sucked in the first half last night and prolly the second half too, I tried to turn my head in the 2nd half when he got the ball.

If he had scored 77 more that would've been a cogent of epic proportions.

Yeah, although the gap is so small you wouldn't even notice its there, I'd feel more confident having Flip Murray on the floor in a tight game than AA...

Once Stuckey comes back I think we won't have to worry about seeing Flip Murray on the floor during close games...

Although, I'm prematurely assuming Stuckey is what we think he will be...
