The Bulls are 0-4 (hopefully 0-5 after tonight).

The Pacers are 3-1, can it last?

Three teams in the Southeast are at .500 or above, and Washington and Miami aren't any of the three. Both are winless.

The Hornets started out 4-0 before losing last night.

An Elton Brand-less Clipper team is 4-0.

The darlings of last year's playoffs, GSW, are 0-4.

Chris Kaman leads the NBA in rebounding at 16.5 per game.

What else?

I think you got it all just about covered.

The Pistons only have one technical foul that has been called on them through 3 games.

And it's not Sheed's.

Tyson Chandler leads the NBA in techs with 3.

Timone

Now that's surprising. Which Piston was t'ed?

If it wasn't 'Sheed and it wasn't Rip, I'd be really surprised.

I think Nazr got a tech as part of a double tech along with shelden williams on that scuffle under the basket

Flip Saunders got T'ed as well, at Orlando. In fact, that was who I was thinking you were gonna say. I forgot about Nazr's T until you mentioned it.

That's what I originally posted but then edited it due to the fact that I didn't know if we were counting T's on non-players.

Watching the game with a bunch of Bulls fans last night, they all flipped out about that. Personally, I felt it was sort of justified (strong language, I know. . .) because Tyrus followed through on the block and seemed to land on Rip on purpose. In the heat of the moment, Rip probably was pissed because on first glance it looked like a goal-tend.

Nets 4-1? Were they expected to be that good?

Depends on the woman. This was all I did on Sunday afternoon with my new girl: ate pancakes, watched football, sex at halftime (her idea even), watched hockey, watched basketball, after which she went home and I hit up IHOP with the guys.

Rip is shooting 81% at the FT line. But how many times has he been there?

Wilfredo Ledezma
11-12-2007, 01:45 PM
Without question, the biggest surprise is the fact that Cuttino Mobley is shooting 62% from the field this season...

For Cuttino to be making over half his chucks in one game, much less 6 games, is pretty damn amazing...

However, I'd bet anything I own that his current FG% will be cut in half by April...

Did anyone else notice that Al Jefferson got $5 million more than Chauncey did with his contract extension last week?

AJ got $65m over 5

Mobley's a quality player on a good run -- good for him, as long as his team loses to ours. :)

Some teams still searching for an identity

By Kenny Smith, Yahoo! Sports

I always believe after 20 games you are who you are as an NBA team. Very few teams can change their identity as the season goes on unless there is injury or trade.

So with less than 10 games gone, some teams have gotten off to a quick start and others have really struggled. The interesting part is some teams are already transparent.

Some of these teams need to worry and the others don't. Most are who they are.

LIMPING OUT OF THE GATE

Seattle SuperSonics: They do have cause for concern for this season -- this season. In two years this will be a playoff team if it stays together. However, for the next two days, next two weeks and next two months they will probably continue to lose on most nights.

Kevin Durant is the real deal. Scoring comes easy to him. Improving his strength and defense will take longer.

The Sonics are who they are – a young team that will take many lumps this season. They will gain great experience but have no chance of making a dent in the West.

Golden State Warriors: After making history last year as a No. 8 seed by upsetting the No. 1-seeded Mavs, the Warriors have struggled. Help, however, is around the corner. The addition of Stephen Jackson after he returns from suspension will aid Golden State tremendously.

The Warriors are not who they appear to be right now. As the season progresses, this team will continually improve and make a push toward the playoffs. When healthy, they have mismatches at every position except center. And despite the slow start, Baron Davis is still playing at last season’s playoff level.

Memphis Grizzlies: With a new coach, a new GM and added personnel, the Grizzlies are who they are. The Western Conference is just too deep and too strong for a team trying to find its way. The Grizzlies have a dominant low -post player in Pau Gasol, but his dominance extends to only one end of the court. The backcourt is either a bit too young (Mike Conley and (Kyle Lowry) or a bit too old (Damon Stoudamire). They are a team that will have to improve by trade.

Miami Heat: Surprisingly, they are who they are. The Heat have struggled without Dwyane Wade and their window of opportunity seems to have closed.

Shaquille O’Neal has not been able to impose his will in games the way he did earlier in his career. The lack of depth on the bench also will be a problem for the Heat. They’ve already made one trade. They need to make another.

Chicago Bulls: This young team is not as bad as it currently looks. As the season progresses the Bulls will continually get better.

The contract talks and trade speculation of key players has distracted the focus in the early going. Once the Kobe Bryant trade dust clears, this team will be vying for Eastern Conference supremacy.

OFF AND RUNNING

Los Angeles Clippers: It’s hard to believe the Clippers started off 4-0 without Elton Brand and Shaun Livingston. They’ve lost their past two games after Cuttino Mobley joined the injury ranks, but they still have to be the surprise team of the league.

The Clippers have a unique array of talent, but I’m still not sure how well it fits together. Their mixture of young and old players reminds me of a bunch of round pegs in square holes.

Sam Cassell would be a better fit for a team trying to make a championship push. Corey Maggette needs to be on a team that is more up-tempo while Brand (once he returns) is more of a slow-down guy. The Clippers will have to make trades to stay in the playoff hunt.

Houston Rockets: This might be the Rockets’ best team since the Hakeem Olajuwon (and Kenny Smith) Era ended. Rick Adelman seems to be the right coach for this group. The Rockets were a slow-down, plodding team the last two years but have now adopted the up-tempo style of their coach.

While Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming are in their prime, it’s important to get them some easy transition baskets. The biggest difference is the difficulty in double teaming the two explosive players in this offense. Mike James also been exceptional in the early going.

Orlando Magic: I have to change my early opinion of this team. I’ve learned teams sometimes aren’t as bad (or good) as they look on paper.

Dwight Howard has moved up as one of the premier centers in basketball. His combination of strength and quickness makes him too hard to guard. The Magic will be there at the end because of the versatility in their lineup.

Boston Celtics: The Big Three of Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, and Paul Pierce have been playing BIG, making the Celtics the team to beat in the Eastern Conference. This will be the first time in their respective careers that each of the three won’t see consistent double-teams.

A great rebounder like Garnett will face only one defender on the glass while great one-on-one players like Allen and Pierce also get to show their individual skills. The Detroit Pistons are Boston’s only serious competition.

Seriously, how can you get through that without laughing?
