Does anyone else think that hart and henne should be held out of the wisky game to be in better shape for osu. Wisky is a decent team and michigan would be definite underdogs without henne and hart. I just don't really care if they lose to wisky if they can beat osu. That would put them in a bcs bowl anyways. I just don't want to see osu win in the big house again. I think that michigan has a 50-50 shot at osu if hart is as healthy as he was in the first quarter yesterday.

Problem: Is UM's season a One Gamer? Who in the FUCK cares about a season that has gone to hell, yet you can ruin OSU's dreams by beating them?
How many times in the 90's did UM ruin an OSU season, and salvage a shining 7-4 or 8-3 season by beating them?

UM fans are often accused of being arrogant. How the hell can you be arrogant when you have such low expectations?

name one successful big program who isn't "arrogant"?

Notre Dame- yeah right

USC- perhaps the most arrogant

Ohio State...Miami (FL)...Florida State...

If you are only thinking Rose Bowl, I guess so. The question is would Michigan have any chance at a BCS at large bid if they beat Wisky and lose to OSU? If so, then the Wisy game still matters.

I'd have no problem with starting Mallet and seeing if he can win it. Evaluate it at half time. Minor and Brown should be enough to beat Wisky. I'm not sure Wisky will bounce back against us the way some think. I think they're hurting more than peeps think, but they are perfect at home too.

I just hope that Michigan doesn't look past Wisconsin. They still have a good team this year, and we all remember what happened last year against Ball State. We're getting into that time of the year where Michigan doesn't remember how to play football anymore.

Is Wisconsin going to have PJ Hill? Just wondering...

According to the guest columnist from Cheezitz contributing in one of the DetRags, Hill is expected to play. Same guy said that they lost 3 starters in the OSU game. No names mentioned. Add that WR who went down a few weeks back and I'm thinkin' they aren't going to challenge A2 much. I wouldn't rest Henne though until after a lead and the same with Hart. 14 up and they're sittin' next to me if I'm Lloyd.

Zip Goshboots
11-05-2007, 01:47 PM
14 up. That's a good one Hip. Lloyd wouldn't know what to do with himself with a 14 point lead (oh wait, he would! Blow it, and then pull Henne and Hart out of the morgue to win it in the fourth quarter).

Wilfredo Ledezma
11-05-2007, 11:14 PM
Wisconsin is terrible. They haven't beaten anybody. They're "highlight" win this year was Vs. Iowa. They got killed by Penn State and Illinois, and even the crappy Spartans almost beat them in their own building. Michigan will probably have that classic slow start, fall behind 7-0 or 10-3 quick, but ultimately they will win the game easily...

im getting dragged to the big northwestern / indiana game. ughhhh.

i dont know what the best part is:

1) that i get to miss the michigan game
2) that i get to pay 45 dollars (x2) for a football ticket i dont want
3) that i get to watch indiana play at NWern
4) that i get to wake up at 8:00 am on a saturday.

ps i disagree zip, kinda. i agree we should try to win this game, but i think the onus is on OSU. we should play henne only if he is close to 100%. WE NEED TO GET TO THE ROSE BOWL. the ONLY way we get there is beating OSU. and the ONLY thing we HAVE to do is beat OSU. wisconsin is a respect game, and thats it. were not playing for the nc. if we do anything to diminish our chances of beating osu, and getting to the rose bowl, i will be upset far more than if we lose this game.

In the famous words of Lee Corso, this one will be "closer than the experts think". I know Wiscy is banged up, but so is U-M and this is the Badgers' last chance to salvage their season (after being ranked top 5 earlier) and prove that last year was no fluke. I think Bucky gets off to an early lead and Henne leads a comeback again and Michigan pulls out a tight one.

Henne is about 80+%. Hart=blah. I wouldnt count on Hart today.

If you read MGOBLOG you would think Hill and the backup RB both wont play.

Hart probably only play in emergency like if Mallett has to go in.

Michigan continues pursuit of Big Ten title at Wisconsin

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The Michigan Wolverines are adamant they're only focused on Wisconsin and not their looming showdown for the Big Ten title with No. 1 Ohio State.

The Badgers (7-3, 3-3) say they still have something to play for Saturday, too, despite squandering their conference title dreams.

No. 13 Michigan (8-2, 6-0) and Wisconsin are sure saying the right things.

"We know that there are going to be some challenges this week that you want to think about but you don't want to jump too far ahead," Wolverines linebacker Chris Graham said.

Across Lake Michigan, Badgers tight end Travis Beckum has a different take on what goals are left this season.

"Undefeated nonconference. Get the Axe back against Minnesota. Make Michigan a big game, and win it," said Beckum, who leads the nation's tight ends with 62 catches and 765 yards receiving.

Because of injuries, the passing combinations of Michigan's Chad Henne-to-Mario Manningham and Wisconsin's Tyler Donovan-to-Beckum may play a larger role than the star tailbacks that have been the trademark of both schools.

Three stellar running backs will be on the field Saturday as Wisconsin retires Heisman Trophy winner Ron Dayne's jersey at halftime.

The other two might not play, either.

Badgers coach Bret Bielema is still being cryptic about whether sophomore P.J. Hill will play with a lingering leg bruise.

"I wasn't playing games," said Bielema, who was optimistic Hill would return last week against Ohio State before it became apparent Hill didn't have a chance. "Basically from the time Tuesday was on, there wasn't any structural damage to the leg, but extremely sore, and then also some tightness in his lower leg that he just wasn't able to go. And really, it's on P.J. whenever P.J. feels he can come back."

Bielema said Hill regressed before Wisconsin lost 38-17 to the Buckeyes on Saturday. Freshman Zach Brown had 20 carries for 63 yards replacing Hill.

Michigan's Mike Hart, hampered by a nagging ankle injury, has said there's no way he'll skip the week to rest for the Buckeyes.

"These are the last two games of my career at Michigan, and a bowl game," Hart said. "I'm not missing anything."

Hart's run at the Heisman and climb up the Big Ten career rushing list has been sidetracked by the ankle injury. Hart is fifth in Big Ten history with 4,867 yards. Twenty-one more moves him past Michigan State's Lorenzo White.

Dayne, now with the Houston Texans, is the NCAA's career rushing lead with 7,125 yards and 71 touchdowns and he played before the NCAA began to count bowl game statistics in season and career totals.

Wisconsin has never found the next great Dayne, but have had several other successful running backs like Anthony Davis, Brian Calhoun and now Hill.

Hill is most often compared to Dayne, but was only 12 years old when Dayne was smashing through defenses.

"Everybody wanted to make a big deal about Ron Dayne's size," Bielema said. "Ron Dayne made a lot of people miss. He had a lot of one-on-one tackles with people off the edge on support, and he was so patient in what he was doing."

It's a lesson the Badgers could use after squandering a lead at Ohio State.

Michigan coach Lloyd Carr's patience has paid off with an eight-game winning streak that's almost taken the sting out of two terrible losses to start the season.

Carr would pass Ohio State's Woody Hayes for the fifth-best winning percentage among Big Ten coaches if Michigan can snap Wisconsin's 13-game home winning streak.

Carr's players think they've righted the program.

"I was shocked the way the season started," nose tackle Terrance Taylor said. "But the turnaround has been great. After the first two games we had a reality check that we are Michigan and we have to live up to that."

That's why Taylor doesn't think there's any chance the Wolverines will overlook Wisconsin.

"You see it all over the country. Teams don't focus on the team that they are playing and they lose," Taylor said. "The best lesson was shown in the first two games of the season."

Watching the Michigan offense with Mallett is like watching the Bears offense. It doesn't matter what kind of field position they get, you know the quarterback is going to screw it up.

And the defense isn't good enough to win the game. They're going to have to hold Wisconsin scoreless the rest of the way

Zip Goshboots

The problem with this game is that the defense that started the season is back. Over running plays, bad pursuit angles, not being able to finish tackles, and the same bugaboo that has marked Lloyd Carr's tenure: Giving up too many third down conversions, even on third and long.
I can't see blaming anything on Mallett. If he didn't take the vast majority of the snaps during the practice week (and for the last three weeks since Henne has been injured), then it's the coaching staff that should be blamed.

Mallett should be more prepared at this point of the season than he appears to be.
One other thing: This IS the team that Penn State beat 38-7, isn't it? No, wait, it's not: They don't even have PJ Hill or their best receiver.

Haha. Normally you'd say those things after a convincing win, not a rout.

This is bad news for Ohio State. If them, LSU, and Oregon win out, there's going to be a groundswell for LSU to play Oregon in the national championship game. That's not even mentioning Kansas. They've played NO ONE. The Big Ten is the worst BCS conference this season.

Ohio State not only needs to beat Michigan, but beat them convincingly.

I know it's been said a million times, but I seriously am getting sick of watching this ultra vanilla offense. I mean, how hard is it to defend when the team you're playing against runs a "stretch left" 2 out of every 3 plays? I can't take the quick horizontal pass anymore either. That's like our cool "innovative" pass play that reeeally catches the defense off guard. Riiiiiight. And wow, we've finally moved into the shotgun era, but every time we use it, we've got 3 WR's and a TE. How about 4 WR's, 5 WR's? I'm as hardcore of a Michigan fan as you'll find, but this brand of offensive football is not very fun to watch. Let alone when Mallett is in, it's like watching a high school JV team. Sickening waste of talent.

right now carr is staring another 3 game losing streak and another 5 loss season right now.

if we wanted, we could have won this game and secured no worse than 8-4. forget that. this OSU game means alot this year, maybe the most ever that didnt involve a NC for UM. if we dont win this one, henne/hart are failures at UM (yep).

but i do believe we win vs osu. weve got the gamers, weve got the talent, weve got the homefield, and were the desperate team. tressell might be a good coach, but he hasnt done anything lloyd carr hasnt. yea, hes had a nice hot streak, but they never last. his time has come and its in less than 7 days now.
