View Full Version : the great bonds debate redux
b-diddy 11-01-2007, 11:46 PM long story short:
barry bonds was a good player.
after a while, he suspiciously got alot bigger and started doubling his best hr #'s.
eventually, he broke several of baseball's most revered records, including the career hr record.
the record setting hr ball was caught be a fan, who sold it to a douchebag named ecko.
ecko the asshole in a publicity stunt let the people vote on the ball's fate, who voted to brand the ball with an "*" and send it to the bbhof in cooperstown.
now, barry is saying if that ball w/ an * goes to cooperstown he wont. (all the better for some, i guess).
this really pisses me off, and just shows what stooges 4/5 of people are. i was rooting against barry breaking the record as much as anyone. but he did it, its over. hes never been proven guilty. did he cheet? probably. did he play with, against, and for cheeters all the while? yup! innocent until proven guilty, or atleast ideally. to hold barry accountable in this situation is the ultimate hypocricy.
and who the fuck is this ecko guy? (ughh, hows this for irony, im wearing some ecko apparel as i type this. damn.) what an idiot. how did a clown like this guy weasel his way into the conversation? isnt there some sort of eminent domain laws that we can get the ball away from him?
as for the voters: a bunch of be guzzling, half witted mediocritties. pure sheep. did they ever think about the little boys, agest 5-12, who innocently idolize barry bonds?
"daddy, why did they put an asterisk on the ball?"
"well, son, there were a whole bunch loser adult males who never grew up who were told by espn how to think, and they voted to deface it".
btw, barry without question belongs in cooperstown.
1. Good he doesn't want to go to Cooperstown.
2. I am no sheep in thinking the ball should have an asterisk.
3. Marion Jones cheated too.
4. You helped Mark accumulate the money to buy the ball.
2a. You don't have to follow the media to question wether or not Bonds was on something... why his head and feet grew... and as you mentioned, his HR numbers grew astronomically well into his playing career. If I was a parent of one of those kids, I would be teaching him/her the facts about steroids and hope that my influence as a parent could ensure my kid would never take them. I would tell my child he is a dirty player and make sure they could never 'innocently idolize' him.
5. Barry's career even before the roids is arguably in Cooperstown, so in that sense I will not be mad if he gets in. If he gets in, I would like to think it is not simply because of the number of yard he cleared.
b-diddy 11-02-2007, 12:39 AM without facts (ie a drug test) this is nothing more than a witch hunt. guess what, i think roger clemens cheets on the same level as barry. when do we get him? lets put an asterisk on all his memorabelia. or how bet sheffield, and pudge. who doesnt think they cheated. hell, we were playing a 2 x loser for the last season and a half. why not make us forfeit those games, including justin verlanders no hitter than wouldnt have happened without mr banned substance himself. putting an asterisk on that ball makes alot more sense than barry's, atleast we have evidence behind the taint on that one.
I always thought you were a decent poster, but now I'm really thinking of that phrase "never argue with an idiot because they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience". Maybe Clemens took stuff, Sheffield has knowingly been mentioned, personally I haven't heard about Pudge but maybe he has. What I do know is that Barry is talked about because of grand jury testimony. What I do know is that when I google "Verlander HGH" or "Verlander sterioids" I get nothing about that actual topic. What I don't know is what "we were playing a 2 x loser for the last season and a half." means because it is not coherent English. At least I was cool enough to point out that Barry was legit until the very late 90's but you say to asterisk all of Clemens memorabilia. Your av fits you except for the big brain inside that man.
Artermis 11-02-2007, 07:47 AM Bonds is a loser and anyone who defends his is a loser.
I dont care about Bonds. I dont care about the ball. This is as close as I have come to paying attention to Bonds this past baseball season.
The guy bought the ball and can do whatever the fuck he wants with it. Dont blame the guy for putting * on it. Blame the HoF for taking the ball with it.
Tahoe 11-02-2007, 12:37 PM Bonds basically admits that he put cream on but didn't know it was roids. Same as Jones. Jones did the right thing, Barry isn't doing the right thing, so baseball should step in. Problem is baseball knew a lot of this shit was going on, so they prolly won't do the right thing.
So Bonds is basically saying I took it, but I didn't know I was taking it. yea right.

i was referring to neifi perez's no hit saving play.
the difference between that situation and barry's is we actually KNOW neifi is a cheater. do we know he cheated that night? eh, not really. but if we're playing the witchhunt game, then we cant get barry without also taking away verlander's no hitter. atleast not in my book.

its an interesting question.
i think it is perfectly reasonable to believe barry was taking all sorts of things that he wasnt sure on their legality. thats kind of the point. there are SOOOOO many legal stimulants (?) that werent accessible 20 years ago that athletes take today. believe that the days of athletes just taking eggwhites and working the speed bag are over. ALL athletes have switched from rocky balboa in rocky IV to ivan drago. its just some crossed some fairly arbitrary and very arcane line and others didnt. and i'd bet anything that more than a few crossed it without really knowing.
so what duty does an athlete owe to knowing what he's putting in his body? is willful ignorance the same as ignorance? in some fields yes, in some fields no.
Artermis 11-03-2007, 12:16 AM You are paid millions of dollars to play a game and to be at your peak physical condition and you are telling me that these athletes have no clue what they are putting in their body.
I am nothing but a 2 bit Wal-Mart Wolverine and I know everything that goes in and on my body.
You are delusional if you think Barry has no clue what he was taking. Especially someone who is a control freak.
b-diddy 11-03-2007, 01:05 AM you dont know half of what goes into your body. take a look at the ingredients of a bottle of coke. what the fuck is that shit? no one knows. do you actually know what makes a substance illigal? i sure dont.
i think it is reasonable to suspect barry didnt "KNOW" (strictest meaning of the word) that he ever took a banned substance.
but thats not even really my point. sans proof this is all just a witch hunt. i suspect he cheated, but i actually suspect a whole lot of people in mlb cheated. you cant just go get barry, without evidence, and not go after a whole lot of other guys.
and imo, verlander's no hitter should be the first mark to go if thats the game you want to play.
Artermis 11-03-2007, 01:09 AM I know exactly what is in Coke, hence I dont drink that shit.
He admitted to taking steroids. He said he didnt know it.
Fine take Verlander's no hitter away. Wow that really stung me deep in my chest. I dont know what I will do without Verlander having a no hitter.
Facts are Bonds cheated. Just because he will not admit to knowingly doesnt mean shit to me. He is a POS.
Again, he makes millions of dollars and if he doesnt know what is going in or on his body than he is fucking stupid and Darwin needs to take care of him sooner rather than later.
Tahoe 11-03-2007, 01:46 AM Bonds story is too unbelievable for me. Lots a peeps didn't like him cuz of the way he was with the media. I could care less about that. I liked the guy till he came up with the bullshit story.
Which is why I posted in the Marion Jones thread...Why are they completely beating this gal up? She gave back her medals, appologized, etc and they still want more from her.
What message does this send to athletes when Marion gets hosed and Barry is still hitting homeruns and making tons of dough? Lie like a rug. Don't cop to anyfuckinthing. Bonds needs to pay.
