I see Cornbread Jones having a big day
Timone 11-01-2007, 11:22 AM 38-21 Lions (though it may be a stretch, at best).
Wizzle 11-01-2007, 01:10 PM Game on: Roy Williams calls Dre Bly a "no-hitter"
Posted by Tom Kowalski November 01, 2007 12:34PM
Whether he's sending a message or just having fun, Detroit Lions receiver Roy Williams added some spice to Sunday's game against the Denver Broncos with his less-than-flattering observation about Dre Bly's tackling ability. Williams talked to the media Thursday and here are excerpts from that interview:
On Bly and the fact that he's practiced against Williams a great deal:
"He's going to play me. He's been in the system, he knows it, he played against Torry (Holt), he played with Torry, he practiced against Torry, he practiced against me, so he knows me and I know him and it's going to be a great battle.''
On Bly's tackling ability:
"Dre is a no-hitter. Isn't there a term in baseball - a no-hitter? Dre's a no-hitter. He wants no part of that.''
Then why do guys respect him?\
"Because he can cover. I'd rather pass the ball on every play, but that's not football. You have to be able to run it. If I was to run 10 routes on Dre, it'd probably be 60-40, advantage me. But if Kevin Jones ran at him, 10 out of 10 times Dre's not going to make that tackle.''
Then why not line up Jones on the outside as a receiver?
"Because Dre can cover KJ.''
On Bly's trash talking:
"He's going to talk trash to the fans, he's going to talk trash to us and he's going to talk trash to the refs, that's just the way Dre plays. He's a Pro Bowler, he's won a Super Bowl and he's a good player. I hated that we had to let him go because we could've used him. Of course, he's not the best tackler in the world. I figure that's why we let him go, because we need corners who can tackle.''
Will you talk back?
"Yeah, I'm going to talk back. I'm not going to just sit there. It's kind of an Ulracher thing. We'll talk but we know that we're joking and we're just trying to win and trying to beat up on each other. It's going to be fun.''
On the competitiveness between the two players:
"We're both competitors, we both make stupid bets on who can spell their name the fastest - Dre or Roy? So we're real competitive and it's going to be a great matchup this week.''
Will beating Bly be something special or is he just another guy?
"He's just another guy in the NFL. There are 1,696 of us and I have to play against that one particular corner on that one particular Sunday. It's nothing big, man, it's what you're supposed to do.''
way to get him fired up Roy
WTFchris 11-01-2007, 01:13 PM I hope he does fire up Bly. Bly is a risk taker. If he's playing hot maybe he'll jump routes and get burnt deep that much more.
Timone 11-01-2007, 01:24 PM So what do you think of Denver's "other" corner, Roy?
Glenn 11-01-2007, 01:26 PM Roy loves to flap him some gums
Timone 11-01-2007, 01:28 PM Nice try, Roy...nothing's going to divert the attention away from Appy State beating Michigan.
Wilfredo Ledezma 11-02-2007, 08:50 AM Defensive Line needs to put pressure on Jay Cutler, force him to make bad throws, Denver's offensive line is hurting w/o Nalen, so theres no reason they can't get to the QB...
John Lynch is probably not going to play, and Javon Walker is still out...contain Travis Henry and get to the QB, and Detroit's defense should give them a chance to win the game...
On the offensive side, Denver is awful against the run, pound the rock w/ KJ, and that should open up the pass, Calvin should have a field day if he's going up against Dre' Bly...
Ultimately the Lions SHOULD win this game...
Lions 27
Broncos 17
Wilfredo Ledezma 11-02-2007, 08:51 AM I hope he does fire up Bly. Bly is a risk taker. If he's playing hot maybe he'll jump routes and get burnt deep that much more.
a la Greg Jennings on MNF...Dre' is vulnerable to the deep ball, hopefully Martz took some notes from what he saw the Packers do
Glenn 11-02-2007, 08:57 AM A game the Lions are expected to win, a scary thought.
If you guys haven't seen Cutler play, wait to you see the arm strength on this guy.
He's got a lot of improving to do, especially his touch, but man, that guy can throw.
giffman 11-02-2007, 10:34 AM A Lions victory, 102-87
Timone 11-02-2007, 11:23 AM I change my mind. 34-28 Lions, Roy with the walk off in extra innings off Dre Bly.
WTFchris 11-02-2007, 12:15 PM A game the Lions are expected to win, a scary thought.
If you guys haven't seen Cutler play, wait to you see the arm strength on this guy.
He's got a lot of improving to do, especially his touch, but man, that guy can throw.
He does have a lot of skills, but he doesn't play with much experience (because he doesn't have it yet). I think we can rattle him if we bring good pressure. If not, watch him pick apart the middle with Scheffler.
Timone 11-02-2007, 12:18 PM If the Lions lose, I hope they can at least keep it under 30 pts.
Glenn 11-02-2007, 12:20 PM If the Lions lose, I hope they can at least keep it under 30 pts.
Playing the under?
Timone 11-02-2007, 12:31 PM I will play the over and say if the Lions lose they will lose by more than 20 points.
Wilfredo Ledezma 11-02-2007, 02:05 PM I will play the over and say if the Lions lose they will lose by more than 20 points.
How in the hell is that Broncos offense going to outscore a team by 20?
Jay Cutler = Marques Tuiasosopo w/ flare
Timone 11-02-2007, 02:07 PM How did the Redskins offense outscore the Lions by 30+?
Wilfredo Ledezma 11-02-2007, 02:07 PM How did the Redskins offense outscore the Lions by 30+?
Mike Sellers was due...
Glenn 11-02-2007, 02:08 PM How did the Redskins offense outscore the Lions by 30+?
HEY! THAT WAS ON THE ROAD!!!!
:cornbread:
Timone 11-02-2007, 02:08 PM I still am going with the Lions in this contest, the Broncos are nothing but capitalistic gang murderers.
Wilfredo Ledezma 11-02-2007, 02:10 PM I still am going with the Lions in this contest, the Broncos are nothing but capitalistic gang murderers.
capitalistic gang murderers victims too (Darrent Williams)
Timone 11-02-2007, 02:10 PM Low blow, Wil.
Wilfredo Ledezma 11-02-2007, 02:12 PM Low blow, Wil.
Hail Mary, Full of Grace...
Glenn 11-04-2007, 07:06 AM WTF Sportsbook wagers are posted for this game
http://wtfdetroit.com/forums/vbookie.php?
Timone 11-04-2007, 10:07 AM Lions win, that's all you need to know!
DrRay11 11-04-2007, 10:52 AM Lions win, that's all you need to know!
It would be stupid to care about anything else.
Wilfredo Ledezma 11-04-2007, 12:14 PM I bet Kalimba Edwards is inactive because he has an injury.
Timone 11-04-2007, 01:00 PM Kevin Harlan's calling the game.
Tahoe 11-04-2007, 01:04 PM If our Defense shows up...
Timone 11-04-2007, 01:04 PM REALLY NICE defense on that opening drive.
Timone 11-04-2007, 01:05 PM Did I read that right? Kitna has a 69% completion percentage this year?
Timone 11-04-2007, 01:08 PM Lions game, Pats-Colts, Pistons game & Cowboys-Giants tonight...gonna be fun.
Tahoe 11-04-2007, 01:10 PM TJ DUCKMAN! Where'd he go to school?
Timone 11-04-2007, 01:10 PM Never thought I'd say this: watching the Lions run is beautiful. Doesn't hurt that Denver is the worst run stopping team in the league though.
Tahoe 11-04-2007, 01:12 PM re: bad run d
which might be why we're seeing duckman.
Timone 11-04-2007, 01:12 PM Manningham would've caught that, but it's ok...nice opening drive, they can move the ball however they want on Denver thus far.
Timone 11-04-2007, 01:13 PM Should be noted that an ex friend of mine (the one I've mentioned before, in the Christianity thread) is a Denver Broncos fan, so this one would be extra sweet.
Timone 11-04-2007, 01:15 PM That was an odd decision...
Timone 11-04-2007, 01:19 PM Something else I thought I'd never say: the Lions stopping the run.
Tahoe 11-04-2007, 01:21 PM The Lions look more confident at home.
Didn't we go 8-0 at home and 0-8 on the road not that long ago?
Timone 11-04-2007, 01:22 PM That would've resulted in the Lions winning 8 games not that long ago.
Tahoe 11-04-2007, 01:27 PM b b b b b b baby you aint seen nothing yet
Timone 11-04-2007, 01:28 PM I wonder if Chris Berman now wears Wrangler jeans because Favre wears them.
..Wait, Berman fit himself into a pair of jeans?
Timone 11-04-2007, 01:30 PM They're going for it, no surprise there...
Tahoe 11-04-2007, 01:31 PM Early gamble. Flags
Tahoe 11-04-2007, 01:32 PM fuckinsonofabitchbly
Ok, the penalty was good, but we ran for it on 4th and would have had it.
Tahoe 11-04-2007, 01:33 PM I'm trying not to swear Sunday mornings. God has to cut me some slack cuz I'm a Lions fan and the games start at 10am.
Timone 11-04-2007, 01:37 PM God may just be on your side today.
Timone 11-04-2007, 01:43 PM I'm not sure if I started the Lions or Jaguars D this week, but if I started the Lions' then it's going to make it a GREAT day for me! (maybe Glenn too)
Tahoe 11-04-2007, 01:43 PM Damn, now we're hurting peeps
Timone 11-04-2007, 01:44 PM Henne played with one arm and one leg last night, suck it up Cutler.
Tahoe 11-04-2007, 01:44 PM After yesterdays comeback, it'd take a lot for me to have a bad day or week.
Timone 11-04-2007, 01:45 PM Patrick Ramsey? First throw a completion? On 3rd and 16?
Timone 11-04-2007, 01:47 PM I didn't know Kellen Davis played for the Broncos. I could've swore I saw him last night...
Timone 11-04-2007, 01:53 PM lol @ that little shake Roy did.
Tahoe 11-04-2007, 01:55 PM Martz>Shanahan
Timone 11-04-2007, 01:58 PM Touuuuuuuuuuuchdownnnnnnnnn Liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiions.
Tahoe 11-04-2007, 01:58 PM 7 MOMAHUMMIN POINTS
That was some great playcalling by Martz that series.
Tahoe 11-04-2007, 01:59 PM Football is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoo much more fun when your team wins.
Timone 11-04-2007, 01:59 PM I'm waiting for a "right between the eyes" from Harlan.
Tahoe 11-04-2007, 01:59 PM That was some great playcalling by Martz that series.
The whole game, imo.
I stand corrected. He really is mixing it up today.
Timone 11-04-2007, 02:02 PM Jones has been running his best since the second half of his rookie season.
Tahoe 11-04-2007, 02:04 PM Our D looks like they want to hurt peeps
Tahoe 11-04-2007, 02:04 PM Agree MM
Tahoe 11-04-2007, 02:06 PM DAMN,, SWARMING DEFENSE
Timone 11-04-2007, 02:06 PM blowout.
Tahoe 11-04-2007, 02:07 PM Did that punt go through Bradley? How'd he miss it?
Tahoe 11-04-2007, 02:07 PM What a bonehead call by Martz. Fire him!
b-diddy 11-04-2007, 02:08 PM whats this you say? detroit city has a real football team??
hell yes!
dont fire millen.
Timone 11-04-2007, 02:08 PM No way in hell you're gonna do that to Champ, Shaun, but nice effort.
Wilfredo Ledezma 11-04-2007, 02:11 PM Lions will win Super Bowl.
I called it.
Tahoe 11-04-2007, 02:15 PM We're gonna have to load up the chat room if this continues
Timone 11-04-2007, 02:17 PM I'm down.
Other than the problems in the red zone, this has been one of the best halves I've seen in a while.
Timone 11-04-2007, 02:23 PM Whew! I did indeed start the Lions' D.
Tahoe 11-04-2007, 02:36 PM Second half started
Timone 11-04-2007, 02:50 PM Continue the beating!
Tahoe 11-04-2007, 02:52 PM TD for the D. White is turning out to be a GREAT pickup
Timone 11-04-2007, 02:58 PM It's now about to get even worse.
Timone 11-04-2007, 02:59 PM How did that stand? Whatever.
Wilfredo Ledezma 11-04-2007, 02:59 PM Patrick Ramsey reminds me of Mike McMahon...Terrible
Timone 11-04-2007, 03:01 PM lol @ Brandon Marshall.
Timone 11-04-2007, 03:07 PM THIS GAME'S SLIPPING AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111
Wilfredo Ledezma 11-04-2007, 03:08 PM Like life can get worse for Travis Henry.
Wilfredo Ledezma 11-04-2007, 03:08 PM does Jared DeVries eat babies w/ Maxx
Timone 11-04-2007, 03:09 PM Denver's QB situation is tenuous.
Timone 11-04-2007, 03:10 PM GREAT defense!
Wilfredo Ledezma 11-04-2007, 03:10 PM Ha. Denver blows.
Wilfredo Ledezma 11-04-2007, 03:10 PM who would have thought Keith Smith would emerge as a decent corner...then again he did go to the same college as Joey D
Incredible D there! I would love to see a drive now that kills the 3rd quarter. Even if they don't score.
Or we could throw to the TE for 46 yards...
Tahoe 11-04-2007, 03:12 PM LOL @ Denver
Timone 11-04-2007, 03:13 PM I need to go check if I started McDonald too.
Tahoe 11-04-2007, 03:13 PM What was that 2 plays 94 yards
Timone 11-04-2007, 03:13 PM Sure enough, Braylon/Fitzgerald/McDonald are all starting for me! BEASTLY!!
Wilfredo Ledezma 11-04-2007, 03:15 PM Sure enough, Braylon/Fitzgerald/McDonald are all starting for me! BEASTLY!!
Solid...Braylon has been an animal this year...remember what he did to MSU in '04?
Tahoe 11-04-2007, 03:17 PM I doubt Bly is diggin this game much
Wilfredo Ledezma 11-04-2007, 03:17 PM Hard to believe our Defense was ranked 28th in the NFL prior to this game...if we toss a no-no, I bet we go up a few spots
b-diddy 11-04-2007, 03:17 PM rats, chicago just switched coveragte to the minny game. it was good while it lasted, i've never watched my lions play better, so i guess its good to leave on a high note.
b-diddy 11-04-2007, 03:18 PM I doubt Bly is diggin this game much
i heard him say it was joey harrington's fault.
Wilfredo Ledezma 11-04-2007, 03:18 PM man, they usually don't bump until the 4th...
Timone 11-04-2007, 03:19 PM i heard him say it was joey harrington's fault.
Kitna's fault.
Wilfredo Ledezma 11-04-2007, 03:19 PM Dennis Fithian on 97.1 predicted the Broncos would win on a last minute Elam FG...
Hard to believe our Defense was ranked 28th in the NFL prior to this game...if we toss a no-no, I bet we go up a few spots
I think it's really all just based on yardage. We give up a decent amount of yardage in our wins and just imagine what the Philly and Wash games added to it. There is no doubt that taking all things into account we are NOT one of the worst defenses in league.
Tahoe 11-04-2007, 03:20 PM That was a Graham Cracker...LOL ROTFLMAO...Get it...never mind
Timone 11-04-2007, 03:20 PM LOL
Timone 11-04-2007, 03:21 PM Big game next week...Giants?
Wilfredo Ledezma 11-04-2007, 03:21 PM I think it's really all just based on yardage. We give up a decent amount of yardage in our wins and just imagine what the Philly and Wash games added to it. There is no doubt that taking all things into account we are NOT one of the worst defenses in league.
Seconded.
Wilfredo Ledezma 11-04-2007, 03:22 PM Big game next week...Giants?
No. @ Arizona
Timone 11-04-2007, 03:22 PM Scratch the "big game next week" then.
Tahoe 11-04-2007, 03:24 PM Damn my head feels like one of my teams won yesterday and I had one too many beers last night or something
Wilfredo Ledezma 11-04-2007, 03:35 PM man Shaun Rogers has a better 40 time than me
Tahoe 11-04-2007, 03:35 PM The announcers aren't afraid to give Lions some props. Its hard not to today, but still, they're giving it up for us.
Wilfredo Ledezma 11-04-2007, 03:36 PM I heard somebody say on the radio once that if Shaun Rogers could drop 20 lbs. he could be one of the most disruptive DT's of all-time...
Wilfredo Ledezma 11-04-2007, 03:36 PM The announcers aren't afraid to give Lions some props. Its hard not to today, but still, they're giving it up for us.
It's Rich Gannon...he's due for another concussion.
Tahoe 11-04-2007, 03:37 PM B Marshall will remember this game for a while
edit...He's gonna needs some ice and jacuz
Timone 11-04-2007, 03:39 PM SHAUN ROGERS! ARE YOU KIDDING ME? AHAHAHAH
Tahoe 11-04-2007, 03:39 PM S Rogers with a touch...LOL
Did I just see that? Did Rogers just rumble into the end zone???
Wilfredo Ledezma 11-04-2007, 03:39 PM LMFAO I LOVE BIG BABY!!!!!!
Tahoe 11-04-2007, 03:39 PM Damn, a stiff arm and everything.
Wilfredo Ledezma 11-04-2007, 03:39 PM Can you say...NFC Defensive Player of the Week?
Tahoe 11-04-2007, 03:40 PM 35, Denver tried to go up high on SR. LOL, not happenin, Son.
Timone 11-04-2007, 03:41 PM I've seen everything I've wanted to see now...
Wilfredo Ledezma 11-04-2007, 03:42 PM Shaun Rogers reminds me of Notorious B.I.G.
Wilfredo Ledezma 11-04-2007, 03:45 PM wow...he had to have been down...
Timone 11-04-2007, 03:45 PM Pats beware!
Or not. Oh well. Would've been nice to see 50 be put up though.
Wilfredo Ledezma 11-04-2007, 03:46 PM that was a weird play...
Are they chanting "let's go Lions" at Ford Field?
Timone 11-04-2007, 03:47 PM They are. Fucking bootlicks.
Are they chanting "let's go Lions" at Ford Field?
Coming to say this exact thing. This is crazy. I'm swimming in :cornbread:
Timone 11-04-2007, 03:50 PM Bill Belichik thinks the Lions should run up the score.
Tahoe 11-04-2007, 03:51 PM Shaun Rogers reminds me of Notorious B.I.G.
Yep
Timone 11-04-2007, 03:52 PM bukdow sees the B.I.G. comparison because he thinks Shaun Rogers is "juicy".
And they pulled Kitna??? We are up so much that we can put in the second string QB and try to run out the game???
Take some fucking notes Bellichick you hobo looking bastard you!
Timone 11-04-2007, 03:55 PM What ISN'T going right today?
Tahoe 11-04-2007, 03:55 PM Cheerleaders?
Tahoe 11-04-2007, 03:56 PM Duckman moves the pile
Timone 11-04-2007, 03:56 PM I don't believe in running up the score, but when you have an ex friend who you just fucking hate and is a Broncos fan, then by all means...
Tahoe 11-04-2007, 03:58 PM I don't believe in running up the score, but when you have an ex friend who you just fucking hate and is a Broncos fan, then by all means...
I did'nt know you knew Bly
But running on every play and making it into the end zone with 5 minutes left is not running up the score.
Timone 11-04-2007, 03:59 PM ^ I know, I WANT them to though...lol.
Tahoe 11-04-2007, 04:01 PM If you see him again, give him your "Karma is a bitch" look.
Timone 11-04-2007, 04:02 PM I'd probably just whoop his ass like I did 4-5 years ago.
Timone 11-04-2007, 04:03 PM Well, I don't think there will be a shut out.
Tahoe 11-04-2007, 04:03 PM I want a shutout.
Will they drive down there and kick a fg?
Timone 11-04-2007, 04:04 PM This is probably 4 down territory for them.
Timone 11-04-2007, 04:05 PM 10 yd penalty! There just may be a shut out!
Timone 11-04-2007, 04:05 PM Damn, no shut out!
Timone 11-04-2007, 04:07 PM Fucking assholes, let's get the ball back and score again now!
Tahoe 11-04-2007, 04:07 PM Challenge that shit
Timone 11-04-2007, 04:07 PM LOL they're challenging it.
Tahoe 11-04-2007, 04:07 PM LOL they did
Timone 11-04-2007, 04:08 PM LOL
Tahoe 11-04-2007, 04:09 PM Thats not the coolest thing we've ever done.
Timone 11-04-2007, 04:10 PM I know, everything I do is cool.
Timone 11-04-2007, 04:11 PM Why in the fuck did he take a knee?! Fuck Shannahan!
Tahoe 11-04-2007, 04:14 PM We embarrassed him enough.
The Miracle man might have called it about right. We could go 10-6
Wilfredo Ledezma 11-04-2007, 04:46 PM We embarrassed him enough.
The Miracle man might have called it about right. We could go 10-6
or 11-5
Tahoe 11-04-2007, 09:32 PM What a fucking game. That might have been the best game we've put together in quite a while.
Kstat 11-05-2007, 09:26 AM 10 years, by my estimation. 55-20 over Chicago on turkey day in 1997 was the last time they spanked anybody this bad.
Glenn 11-05-2007, 09:32 AM I want to believe that this team is for real, but the beatdowns they took vs. Philly and Washington makes me think that this recent success is just going to make the fall from grace even more painful for those that have bought in.
No cornbread for me.
Wizzle 11-05-2007, 09:37 AM I picked the right game to go to...........that was AWESOME! That place was flat out rockin' the whole game. And it was LOUD.........my voice is all wrong today but well worth it. When the crowd is into it like that, Ford Field is a real home field advantage. Walking down the streets after the game everybody was giving high fives and there was just a giddy look on everybody's face. What a blast.
Wizzle 11-05-2007, 09:38 AM No cornbread for me.
fine, more for me
Tahoe 11-05-2007, 10:31 AM I haven't checked the boxscore completely but it looks like the thumping came on a day when our offense had one of its lowest yards. Kit 250yds and roughly a 100 rushing. good job D
WTFchris 11-05-2007, 12:05 PM Shaun Rogers needs to play like this all the time. Keep in mind the Broncos are missing their best OL, and they lost Foster to us (I guess their RT is terrible according to sports radio here).
Impressive win, but our kick off coverage was shaky (thankfully we don't see Hester again), and we did not run the ball well in the second half at all.
