I love me some Slick Willie, but Twain is super cool, old school, and nobody's fool. Slick Willie let himself be conned by right wing plants Monica Lewinsky and Dick Cheney (disguised as Linda Tripp). You don't just read Twain, you abosrb him. He reads you, and his writing is a living organism that takes over your being and captivates you. You cannot read Twain without having a complete picture of what he is writing in your mind. It's almost as if Bob Ross is there painting the picture while you read. Twain's ability to completely capture the spirit of his time and place is unmatched in American literature. His use of vernacular, the knowledge of the geography, and the passion for his writing has made it stand the test of time. True for you, Rachel!
