Pistons vs. Wizards Gameday

TV: FSN Detroit Plus | Radio: WDFN 1130 AM - The Fan
Last Meeting: Washington won 104-99 (January 30, 2007)
The skinny: Gilbert Arenas had fluid drained from his knee – the one that forced him to pass last spring’s playoffs with torn cartilage – over the weekend and then played 29 hard minutes on Monday night, satisfied with the results. A few interesting parallels between these teams. Andray Blatche, like Amir Johnson, is a third-year big man drafted out of high school who the Wizards, as the Pistons did, retained as a restricted free agent over the summer. He’s been Washington’s standout player so far this preseason. And Nick Young is the Southern Cal rookie the Pistons considered along with Rodney Stuckey at the 15th pick in last June’s draft. Young wound up going to Washington one pick later.
What to watch: Flip Saunders says he’ll treat the preseason finale no differently than any other preseason game, meaning you won’t see Pistons starters going more than 20 minutes or so. Johnson, who’s missed all but the first four days of training camp with a sprained ankle, and Mohammed, who played in just the first two preseason games before sustaining a calf injury, both practiced on Tuesday and should be fit for at least limited roles tonight. Rip Hamilton will remain sidelined nursing his sprained ankle, though he seems a safe bet to be ready for the regular-season opener on Nov. 1.
Timone 10-24-2007, 02:24 PM There is NOTHING I can't handle...not a loss to Appalachian State, not the Big Ten Network, and NOT FSN+
Atticus771 10-24-2007, 05:21 PM Stupid FSN Plus. Just another gimmick to get everyone to switch to the dish or the top-priced digital cable package. Looks like its the Audio League Pass feed for me.
Go Amir!

Timone 10-24-2007, 07:45 PM lol at Rasheed..."get in there bitch" when Chauncey shot his FT.
Glenn 10-24-2007, 08:25 PM Just spent 40 minutes on the phone with charter, no luck
Tahoe 10-24-2007, 08:34 PM "Bang, its down for Jarvis Hayes"
Haven't heard "He rocks, he pops" in a while.
Atticus771 10-24-2007, 09:10 PM 'Sheed is ready to ball this year. I feel it.
MoTown 10-24-2007, 09:23 PM I think that proves to me that Stucky is not in Dwyane Wade's league. Rodney just hurt his finger and walked off of the court, instead of being wheeled off.
DrRay11 10-24-2007, 09:24 PM Anything with Amir? Pretty much a no-show?
MoTown 10-24-2007, 09:49 PM You know, I'm probably the last guy to jump on the Amir bandwagon, but he has the opportunity to be scary good.
He's got range, athleticism and the right attitude (so far). I really hope he gets some major minutes this season.
Atticus771 10-24-2007, 09:52 PM Oh my. . . hate to be the bearer of horrible news, but Stuckey's left hand is broken.
SUCK!!!
Kstat 10-24-2007, 09:59 PM Stuckey looked awesome tonight. Just awesome.
Sucked that he broke his left hand, but it isn't tragic. He'll be back by the end of december.
Other positives: Nazr looked pretty good, as did Chauncey and Afflalo.
Hayes and Rasheed looked GREAT.
DrRay11 10-25-2007, 12:19 AM Holy shit, wow that sucks.
Kstat 10-25-2007, 12:27 AM early word on Stuckey is a compound fracture, meaning he'll be out till Christmas.
Glenn 10-25-2007, 08:47 AM Can I get a report on Amir's play?
Glenn 10-25-2007, 09:12 AM Stuckey out indefinitely after “freakish accident,” Saunders says
A bad break
by Ryan Pretzer
Really, now? How could this happen now, so close to the end? They were right there, almost to regular season, almost to the games that counted. Almost.
The Pistons relatively healthy and uneventful preseason went awry with one quarter and some odd minutes left Wednesday night at The Palace, when rookie guard Rodney Stuckey broke a bone in his left hand trying to fight through a screen. A timetable for Stuckey’s return will be determined after undergoing further evaluation Thursday.
The Pistons defeated the Washington Wizards easily, 104-85, ending the preseason with a 4-4 record. Forward Jarvis Hayes led the Pistons with 21 points as he faced his old team for the first time, shooting 8-of-13 from the floor. The former Wizard’s hot shooting night would have been a nice storyline, until the 1:32 mark of the third quarter, when Stuckey rushed off the court in anguish during a timeout.
In a matchup that included Stuckey, the No. 15 pick in last spring’s draft, and guard Nick Young, whom Washington chose at No. 16, Stuckey was having his best performance as a pro, Saunders said. He scored 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting, all in the second quarter, and had no turnovers in 14 minutes.
“It’s really disappointing. He was playing unbelievable today, too,” Saunders said. “I said to our coaches during one of our timeouts it looks like tonight he really got it. He shot the ball when he had open shots, he penetrated when he could penetrate, worked hard defensively and by far I thought it was his best stint as a point guard.”
Young had 12 points and seven rebounds in 29 minutes. Antawn Jamison led the Wizards with 14. The Pistons built a double-digit lead in the second quarter, taking an 11-point advantage into halftime. After the Wizards pulled within seven to open the third quarter, Rasheed Wallace scored on back-to-back possessions, and the Pistons blew it open. Wallace led all starters in scoring with 17 points and seven rebounds, capping his impressive preseason.
Forward Amir Johnson made his preseason debut in the second quarter after nursing a sprained ankle most of October. He finished with seven points and two rebounds in 15 minutes. Center Nazr Mohammed (four points, four rebounds) also played for the first time in five games after a calf injury. The Pistons appeared to be as healthy as an NBA team could hope for, with a full week for Rip Hamilton's sprained ankle to fully heal before the season opener Nov. 1 at Miami. Now they’re hoping for Stuckey’s quick recovery and more magic from trainer and rehab extraordinaire Arnie Kander.
In the meantime, guard Flip Murray - who virtually has made his career filling in for injured starters - will once again figure to have a more prominent role. Last season, he proved his worth by starting for an injured Chauncey Billups in December and January. Wednesday he was starting in Hamilton’s usual spot, providing eight points and eight assists with one turnover. “I’ll be ready every game regardless, even if I’m not in the rotation because things like this can happen any game,” Murray said. “I have to be ready to go in and play.”
Saunders had already decided not to have practice on Thursday, but it will be nonetheless an anxiety-ridden day for many at the Pistons’ practice facility.
“He’s in pretty good spirits, I mean, you know he’s disappointed,” Saunders said of Stuckey, seen after the game with his hand wrapped with an ice bag around it. “As I told him, you will bounce back and wait until tomorrow when we find out where everything’s at.”
I feel like I am becoming a Flip Murray apologist, but I, for one, am glad that we have the guy. If you disagree, you might be a Lindsey Hunter fan.
Timone 10-25-2007, 09:13 AM No, but I am/was a Tony Delk fan...
