Glenn 10-01-2007, 11:05 AM Knicks acquire draft rights to Jared Jordan from Clippers, work on Dan Dickau buyout
September 30, 2007
NEW YORK (AP) -- The Knicks kept tinkering with their roster two days before training camp, acquiring the draft rights to Jared Jordan on Sunday and working toward a buyout of Dan Dickau's contract.
The Knicks traded cash considerations to the Los Angeles Clippers in a deal that sends last season's NCAA assists leader back to New York. The Clippers took Jordan with the 45th pick in the NBA draft.
Jordan averaged 17.2 points and 8.7 assists last season for Marist, becoming the first player to lead Division I in assists for two consecutive seasons since Avery Johnson in 1987-88. Jordan then performed well in Orlando predraft camp to play his way into the draft.
Jordan could compete for a backup point guard spot that will become open once the Knicks have completed their buyout of Dickau, who was acquired from Portland in the Zach Randolph trade in June. Dickau isn't expected to be in camp when it opens Tuesday in Charleston, S.C.
I think the Knicks are going to try and carry 20 players, if Stern will let them.
Cross 10-01-2007, 11:17 AM I wonder who the Clippers got in mind to actually play point guard minutes.
B. Knight and Cassell is a very old duo of point guards.
Give them Flip for some draft picks.
Glenn 10-01-2007, 11:21 AM Maybe they'll sign Dickau?
Livingston thinks he'll be back by January, FWIW

Knicks Sign Four Players as Camp Begins
The Knicks got their annual Media Day off to a fast start on Monday, announcing the signing of four players, including two newcomers who brought the training-camp roster to 20 players.
Glenn 10-01-2007, 04:43 PM Mutombo, 41, returns to Rockets for 16th season
The Houston Rockets signed Dikembe Mutombo to a one-year contract on Monday, extending the 41-year-old center's NBA career into a 16th season. by Associated Press on 10/1/2007 3:53 PM
MoTown 10-02-2007, 08:34 AM I think it's the Knick's goal to be paying at least one player on each team in the NBA. I'm sick of seeing the United Way commercials for NFL players - The New York Knicks are the most charitable organization the world has ever seen.
And in terms of Motombo, it's going to be funny and sad at the same time to watch his body simply disintigrate on the court one day.
Glenn 10-02-2007, 11:44 AM Skiles makes an exception to headband rule for Big Ben
ESPN.com news services
Updated: October 2, 2007, 10:56 AM ET
One of the biggest questions facing the Chicago Bulls in the coming season has been answered: Big Ben's headband is back.
Chicago Bulls coach Scott Skiles, who would not allow center Ben Wallace to wear his trademark headband last season, said Monday that the team has decided to make an exception to its team rule and let Wallace wear the sweat-stopping accessory during games.
The return of the headband endorsed by Wallace's teammates, Skiles said.
"We still have a no-headband rule," Skiles told reporters. "I just left it up to the guys who have been here if they wanted to make an exception for Ben. I was fine with it. They were fine with it."
Early last season, Wallace was pulled twice in a game at New York for wearing the headband, sparking a mini-controversy over his defiance of the rule -- and over the rule itself.
"I think it takes a coach who is willing to adapt a little bit and listen to his players, understanding the big picture is winning," Bulls GM John Paxson said of the decision to let Big Ben wear the headband again. "Scott's one of the best coaches in the league. There's no doubt in my mind. And he's able to adapt. It's really a non-story. But the fact that Scott has looked outside maybe a personal belief, there's nothing wrong with that."
MoTown 10-02-2007, 11:48 AM That seems like it's a year too late...
WTFchris 10-02-2007, 12:18 PM Wouldn't a no tatoo rule be more important than a no headband rule? Headbands aid your play (if you like them). I would think tats would be worse for their image than a headband. They should ban their players from getting more tats if they are so concerned about looks. Shit, the Yankees' hair policy makes more sense than a headband rule.
Glenn 10-02-2007, 12:21 PM I think this is Skiles just being a prick and a control freak.
The players wouldn't be able to conform to a no tat rule, since many already have them.
He can place himself in a more dominant role by getting them to comply to his ticky tack rules.
Or they can just hate him.
Napolean complex.

Two former Michigan players have been invited to NBA training camps. Courtney Sims will play for the Pacers, according to the Indianapolis Star and Brent Petway is with the Blazers, according to The Oregonian.
The chances that these guys actually stick in the NBA are, well, you know...

EXCLUSIVE: Cleveland Cavalier Beaten Outside Local Club
Oct 3, 2007 01:31 PM EDT
Cleveland, OH - Cleveland Cavaliers guard Shannon Brown was beaten up outside of West 6th street's 'Liquid' bar Saturday evening. Brown is claiming assault - but so are the bar bouncers.
It all started with an argument over - baseball caps!
Shannon Brown was out that night with fellow Cleveland Cavaliers players Drew Gooden and Larry Hughes.
Before Cavs practice Wednesday afternoon, Shannon Brown released this statement about the incident:
"I was involved in a situation several nights ago that has caused me to file charges against people I feel assaulted me. My father, who is a policeman in Illinois, has been here to help me with this and we are going through the legal process right now. I am going to respect that process by not commenting further at this time."

Despite suspension, Jackson to lead Golden State as captain
ESPN.com news services
Updated: October 4, 2007, 10:36 AM ET
Webster's Dictionary defines a captain as "a person of importance or influence in a field."
Stephen Jackson's past might not have put him in that category, but his future certainly will.
The Golden State Warriors named Jackson as one of its three team captains, along with Baron Davis and Matt Barnes.
"We have great confidence in him as a player and a leader, and I think you'd hear that from most people who have spent time to really get to know Jack," Warriors coach Don Nelson said.
Jackson will start the season with a seven-game suspension from NBA commissioner David Stern. Jackson pleaded guilty in June to a felony count of criminal recklessness stemming from an incident in which he fired a gun outside an Indianapolis strip club during training camp in October 2006. He was also sentenced to 100 hours of community service and fined $5,000.
Jackson, who has been known to argue with officials and was ejected from two playoff games last season, has a past that includes being part of the infamous brawl at the Palace at Auburn Hills in November 2004. Jackson was suspended 30 games for his involvement.
After a playoff game last season where Jackson vociferously complained openly about the referees, the newly appointed captain drew a fine from Nelson. But Nelson said he respects Jackson for his passion and energy.
Jackson, who is sporting a new tattoo, says the ink references his past while looking to his future. The image shows two praying hands in front of a church window holding a gun.
"I pray I never have to use it again," he explained to reporters.
Glenn 10-05-2007, 01:44 PM New Jersey adds depth to backcourt with guard Darrell Armstrong
October 5, 2007
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- The New Jersey Nets signed veteran guard Darrell Armstrong on Friday.
Armstrong, who was the third oldest player in the NBA at 39 last season, was cut by Indiana earlier this week. He averaged 5.6 points and 2.4 assists in 81 games with the Pacers.
"He is a proven NBA veteran who has the potential to add depth to our backcourt," Nets president Rod Thorn said.
Armstrong has played in 790 career games in 13 seasons with Orlando, New Orleans, Dallas, Indiana, averaging 9.6 points and 4.2 assists.

Houston officially signed back with the Knicks. Now the big question is how many games he'll last. I say 30.
Tahoe 10-10-2007, 09:02 PM He's that banged up?
It wouldn't bother me one bit if it doesn't work out.
micknugget 10-10-2007, 10:11 PM I don't know if he's that banged up right now but his kness are pretty bad and he is two years older. He also plays a position where you have to be able to run a little bit. I just don't think that he's healthy enough to last a whole season or even half of one for that matter.
Glenn 10-11-2007, 08:22 AM Would he be the 21st player that they have signed?

Tests reveal stress reaction in kneecap; Foye out indefinitely
Associated Press
MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Timberwolves received bad news on Tuesday with their regular-season opener fast approaching: guard Randy Foye's lingering left knee injury will sideline him for several weeks.
An MRI test and CT scan performed on Foye's knee revealed a stress reaction in his kneecap, and the team announced that the second-year player will be out indefinitely.
After being hindered by soreness throughout most of the preseason, Foye played 16 minutes in last Friday's exhibition game and took the court with the Timberwolves on Saturday -- but he's been unable to practice this week. An NBA all-rookie team selection last season, Foye was certain to be in the starting lineup for this revamped, inexperienced team that has only five returning players on the 15-man roster.
Foye averaged 10.1 points, 2.8 assists and 22.9 minutes for Minnesota last season while playing in all 82 games. Sebastian Telfair, Marko Jaric and Greg Buckner are expected to assume the ballhandling duties at point guard while Foye is out.
Tahoe 10-30-2007, 02:58 PM SAN ANTONIO (AP) - Tim Duncan has agreed to a two-year, $40 million contract extension with the San Antonio Spurs, an official familiar with the negotiations said Tuesday.
