View Full Version : Am I the only one?

I'll go first...

Am I the only one who likes the smell of gasoline at gas stations?

UxKa

Was there some huffing in your past?

Timone
09-30-2007, 12:34 AM
I'm not here to talk about the past.

And am I the only one who now uses "tenuous, at best" and "cogent" offline too?

UxKa
09-30-2007, 01:27 AM
I've used cogent, and noticed two shows on TV that said tenuous. One was 'Real Time' with Bill Maher on HBO, n fuck I can't remember the other one. I think it was 'The Daily Show'. Been in bed all week, watched way too much TV. As far as cogent, I referred to the femalien as doing something cogent this week.

Am I the only one who uses the word 'turd' consistently? (and I have pretty much my whole life)

Uncle Mxy
09-30-2007, 06:40 AM
I've used "cogent" and "tenuous" in real-world conversations long before they were ever mentioned here. I occasionally invoke catch phrase that goes "if it walks like a turd, talks like a turd, and smells like a turd, it's probably a {fill in the blank -- e.g. "politician", "Ohio State fan", etc.}".

Timone
09-30-2007, 07:06 AM
But have you used "tenuous, at best"?

Uncle Mxy
09-30-2007, 08:01 AM
Not while I'm sniffing gasoline, no.

UxKa
09-30-2007, 02:14 PM
'Its like trying to pick a turd up from the clean end'
'Cant polish a turd'
'Youre a turd. Yeah well youre a returd' end of discussion
Turdle

Uncle Mxy
09-30-2007, 02:53 PM
Come to think of it, I do use the obvious short form of "polish a bowel movement" every once in awhile.

Am I the only one that thinks a $0.50 cup of coffee at a regular breakfast place tastes ten times better than a $5.00 cup of coffee from Starbucks or Caribou?

I'm certainly not with you on that. I recognize that Starbucks or Caribou aren't necessarily the best coffee in the world, but I'd rather have them than 90% of the coffee places out there. Most coffee is that office shit that comes out of a foil pouch and tastes like useless warm brown water. At least Starbucks and Caribou have some flavor in their coffee.

Although I do have to say I take a perverse pleasure in having this conversation at a Starbucks:

SERVER: What can I get for you today?
ME: Small coffee.
[Pause.]
SERVER: A...coffee?
ME: Yes. A small coffee.
SERVER: Just a tall regular coffee?
ME: No, a small regular coffee.
SERVER: "Tall" is what we call our small. There's Tall, Grande, and Venti.
ME: Then I'd like to change my order. For my first order, I'd like you to change your sizes to "small", "medium", and "large". Then I'd like A SMALL COFFEE.

I disagree with Swami, and it pains my soul.

The Fancy Nancy Boy shit is where the flavor is, not the coffee. For me, it's a $1.09 20 ouncer from Bucky's Amoco on the corner of 102nd and Maple. Half "High Rev Mocha", half coffee, and some french vanilla creamer, and it's as good as my $6.50 Fancy Nancy Boy thing that I treat myself to at the Starbucks in Country Club Plaza in Kansas City (I usually go there about four times a year).
And I NEVER tell the clerk at Bucky's that I have some High Rev Mocha, because it's more expensive. I simply say, "Yes. It's coffee". Besides, she kind of likes me, so I don;t think she cares.

The problem is, you can taste the fact that Starbucks tries too hard. Coffee should not fill you up - it's there to wake you up. I get full when I drink that shit.

And along the same lines as the dialect that you just described: I hate when this occurs at any food location:

Server: Can I help you?
Me: Yes, could I have a small pop?
Server: Sorry we don't have small. We only have medium or large. Would you like a medium?
Me: ...

No you dumbass, now I'm feeling like the larger of the two. How does America survive?

Let me explain to you why coffee is so great.

First of all, coffee and pastries go together like nothing else in the world. Have a cookie, drink some coffee, have more cookies. Milk is okay, but coffee is so much better. It's the perfect balance. A little bit of sweet, a little bit of bitter, it makes the world a wonderful place. Except if you are one of those abominations who puts sugar in your coffee, because in that case you are wrong and bad and should pray to the coffee gods for forgiveness.

Second of all, if you're like me, you need to remain regular in order to feel that you are at your best. I get cranky after a few days. You can eat a couple of pieces of chocolate cake, then chase them with a glass of milk, and you won't poop for a week. But you can chase an entire chocolate cake with a cup of strong coffee, and within 90 minutes you're going to be having one of those amazing spiritual shits that completely revolutionize how you live and think.

Third, the "rev" factor. You think you can have a cola or a Mountain Dew or an energy drink and get the same rev you get from a cup of coffee, but you are wrong. A cup of strong coffee contains as much as 175 mg of caffeine and nothing else comes close. When the British started a tea embargo on the US during the War of 1812, Americans started trying coffee instead of tea as our national breakfast drink, and it didn't take too long for us to change our minds forever. That war was a draw, but the British saw what Americans can do with a cup of strong coffee, and those effete homos won't be trying that shit again anytime soon. We've got Starbucks in fucking WalMart now. Anybody tries fucking with us again, we're going to have a Venti to go before we start cutting off heads and swallowing souls.

I don't mind a happy ending but it bugs the shit out of me when you can tell that the writers moved heaven and earth to guarantee a happy ending. "Wait a minute, there's no fucking way - that guy's gotta be dead. He just took a bullet to the neck and now he's kissing Juilanne Moore over the end credits? Gaaaaaaay."

Are you SUUURRE you're not an actor?

I mostly hate things that are European, but that's where European movies have us beat. They almost always have sad endings. I like a good sad ending. That's why I liked that movie "The Science of Sleep." This shy, eccentric, imaginative guy tries to win over the girl, but in the end he loses her because his "quirkyness" has long since crossed the line into "creepy." Every love story should always end the same way all real life love ends - boy loses girl.

I just like movies a lot.

European movies also have this funny little thing called "originality" about them.
We just go ahead and remake The Longest Yard every 5 years.

TV. Here's a pair of his shoes, but they're Dexter. Maybe he signed with Dexter when he got out of his Hush contract. I can't find anything about Hush and DL. Friggin TV.

I thought you meant the fried dough that they used to sell (still do?) at Long John Silvers.

Am I the only one that doesn't know if Long John Silvers even exists anymore?

There's a Long John Silver's down the street from me. Mmmmm, hush puppies.

Am I the only one who thinks that Detroit's signature style of architecture is the yoostabia? The yoostabia Pizza Hut, yoostabia Big Boy, yoostabia Taco Bell, yoostabia Ram's Horn...

There's a yoostabia Long John Silver's on Ford Road in Garden City that got turned into a heating and cooling shop, and it's hilarious. I bet it still smells like fried food in there.
