im maybe at a crossroads w/ my political thought, but no doubt global citizens like bill clinton, al gore, bill gates, warren buffet, et al are ahead of their time and will be remembered as such.

I'm glad that Clinton's sorted out what he wants to do with the rest of his life, that it involves "people helping people" in a big-time way. He's much better at that than he is at authoring autobiographies, and well on his way toward a Carter-esque post-presidency and doing a lot of good.

FWIW, I'm in the "charity begins at home" camp. Giving to the local hospice rather than the global disaster du jour is parochial and non-"global citizen" of me, but it's what makes my heart and head happy. The most "world wide" thing I give to is St. Jude's, and that's a function of an annual local event.

theres nothing wrong with giving to local charities. hell, detroit probably needs as much help as ANYONE in the world. i'll bet you an alpaca baghdad has a higher adult literacy rate than detroit does.

i just think we have a tendancy to forget that a human life is still a human life, even if it not be an american.
