View Full Version : Tay and Nazr for Marion
Cross 09-26-2007, 12:54 PM Ok so we get a bit older at the 3 but we gain so much more experience and a MORE verstaile forward in Marion. We also dump Nazr...
Sheed
Dice
Marion
Rip
Billups
Looks preety fucking good to me.
Glenn 09-26-2007, 12:56 PM I like it in theory, but is Davidson going to give Marion $20m/yr?
Marion is also a "me first" guy, and the Pistons have been marketed as "team first".
Cross 09-26-2007, 12:59 PM Didn't think about extensions at all. I'd think to give him another billups like deal...with that said fuck that shit.
I'd love to use Marion for 2 years though...
Glenn 09-26-2007, 01:00 PM If it were to happen, the Pistons would want to include Lindsey's deal too to keep them out of luxury tax land.
Which is the same reason Phoenix wouldn't want him included.
Uncle Mxy 09-26-2007, 01:35 PM What about Rip and Nazr for Marion (being contingent on Marion accepting an extension that isn't stupid)?
Zekyl 09-26-2007, 03:53 PM How would that help us? We'd have two 3's and no one that could play the 2.
DrRay11 09-26-2007, 04:20 PM I'm assuming he'd want to Phoenix it and put Stuckey at the 2, Marion at the 4.
Uncle Mxy 09-26-2007, 07:21 PM I was thinking that with Tayshaun on the court, we could get away with playing Marion at SG. We'd have two bigger wings, like the Nets, and we'd certainly have enough depth at SG if Marion wasn't a good matchup.
mercury 09-27-2007, 02:52 AM Tay would be good at the 2... he's a little to light in the pants for several SF's... at SG he could post up all day long.
defrocked 09-27-2007, 07:30 AM I'm a huge Tayshaun fan, but I'd rather he be shipped out than Rip, at least when getting Marion in exchange. Tay would get torched by the quicker SGs, as he already gets torched by the quicker SFs.
All that said, I'd have a hard time taking Marion's money on, especially when he doesn't already think its fair compensation.

I don't know about that noise, we put Tay on AI and Wade. It's the brutes like Artest and RJ and LeBron who bust him.
I don't think the Matrix is worth the money he gets, I don't think that he allows the team to be flexible, in the same breath he would be the crutch for th team to not spend.
WTFchris 09-27-2007, 09:28 AM With the amount Flip likes the zone, I don't think a 2/3 of Tay and Marion would be a huge problem.
defrocked 09-27-2007, 12:12 PM I don't specifically recall Tay on AI or Wade, but I just can't see how it could have been pretty. Quick SFs get by him, I don't see how quicker SGs wouldn't.
WTFchris 09-27-2007, 12:25 PM You don't recall Tay on AI or Wade? We definately did that in the playoffs many times. He did pretty good because he played slightly off and forced jumpers. Not great, but it worked.
I think we'd play a zone for the most part anyway with Billups/Tay/Marion/Dyess/Sheed
Uncle Mxy 09-27-2007, 12:29 PM The reason I brought up Tayshaun along with Marion was because he has a high basketball IQ and can handle the ball like an SG. I'd expect Marion to defend the opponent's starting SG most games, though, which he can do. For that matter, Tayshaun's light and fast enough where he's shut down the likes of Wade a number of times, but he can't keep it up over a long series, which is why we put someone who could run all day long on him in Rip (or Marion). In some ways, Rip and Marion are the same kind of player. They need a PG to get them the ball, they're fast down the court, same height, stellar conditioning, etc.
