View Full Version : OGT: The Rivalry Continues, Michigan State @ Notre Dame
Baker 09-19-2007, 07:04 PM Nothing like a bitter rivalry. Look into the last 10 years of this rivalry and that is exactly what you have. Numerous games decided in the last 2 minutes. If I am remembering correctly, I believe 5 out of the last 10 have been decided in the last few minutes of the game. Unbelievable. Top that off with Weis' bold statement, "We will never lose to Michigan State again." Add in the planting of the MSU flag at mid field. Then you can toss in the heated sideline fight last year with Weis claiming he was slapped by a MSU player-video showed that it didn't come even close to happening. The same video reveiled a Notre Dame assistant grabbing Trannon by the facemask and pulling him to the ground from behind. Just unbelievable hatred. This isn't the friendly we're both good so it's a rivalry ND-UM situation. This is a heated rivalry with unbelievable history. From the original "Game of the Century." To the famous Duffy quote mocking ND for playing for the tie, "Tying is like kissing your sister." This one is ALWAYS great and I expect it to be heated again.
The problem is Notre Dame might not recognize the Spartans that walk into their stadium on Saturday because they won't be soft with a flashy offense. They'll be hard hitting and business like, reminicent of the Duffy Spartans. The Irish will bring their best because of the rivalry, the home atmosphere, and their backs being against the wall. They will have a different energy than they had last Saturday. But I believe it won't matter. MSU is going to bring the pain to the Irish offense. The Spartans are #1 in the nation in sacks. Yup, that's right. Read it again. #1. They've already eclipsed the sack total they had for the ENTIRE season last year. They stand at 17, last year 16 for the year.
This one will be great and I can not freaking wait. MSU has won the last 6 straight games in South Bend. Bring the heat Spartans!

WTFchris 09-20-2007, 10:32 AM There's only one football team I hate worse than Ohio State. I hope MSU beats them 38-0 too.
Haven't seen a MSU game this year (been in Mexico), any chance they can keep the no offensive TD streak alive? Shit, Michigan's defense sucks and they did it. Hopefully MSU can do the same.
I will be watching this game.
Fraserburn 09-20-2007, 11:21 AM Jabba da Weis better bring that damn trophy
xanadu 09-20-2007, 12:39 PM You know notre dame has hit hard times when they are 12.5 point underdogs at home against an unranked team. If I am msu, i'd follow the michigan game plan of aggressive defense and conservative offense. Of course, that seems to be dantonio's approach anyways. Since "classyness" is always talked about in terms of michigan, i will be interested to see if state players try to plant their flag in the center of the field if they win. Preseason, i thought notre dame would win this game, but they will have to make a monumental turnaround based on what I saw last Saturday.
WTFchris 09-20-2007, 12:49 PM even if I'm classless I don't plant a flag for a win here. this wouldn't be a huge win given how poorly ND has played. MSU should beat them and act like they were supposed to (which they are).
Zip Goshboots 09-20-2007, 12:56 PM I friggin' LOVED Flag Gate. I love when rivalires heat up and you have two teams with two fan bases hating each other. I loved it when OSU tore down the GO BLUE banner all those years ago.
THAT'S the kind of shit that makes college football what it is. MSU appears to be Notre Dame's second biggest rival if you bring emotion into it.
We know there won;t be any flag planting under Dantonio, though, MSU will just go out there and in a business like fashion lose the game 20-17.
Glenn 09-20-2007, 01:04 PM You're kidding right, Zip?
No way ND beats any big ten team right now, even as bad at the B10 looks this year.
ND is a mess.
MoTown 09-20-2007, 01:36 PM If anyone on MSU's team plants a flag Dantonio will rip their backbone right out.
He's really changed the image of the team for the better (so far).
Glenn 09-20-2007, 01:37 PM I hope he'll still slap himself in the face at the post game presser.
Better yet, why not slap his starting QB, too?
Zip Goshboots 09-20-2007, 02:45 PM Glenn:
You are absolutely right. I meant MSU will WIN 20-17. I'm just undecided as to whether I'm going to take the points and bet 1000 alpacas on it.
Zip Goshboots 09-20-2007, 02:47 PM I hope he'll still slap himself in the face at the post game presser.

Face slapping has been done before.
I think Dantonio should dickwhip a player.

You are right. The loose program days are done. Michigan State is no longer a joker program with players running the asylum. It took a couple of months and Dantonio is already changing the image. Win or lose, they represent toughness, class, and a business like approach.
Baker 09-20-2007, 07:16 PM Wilbon and Tony both picked Notre Dame to pull off the upset on PTI today. Interesting.
HipDigIt 09-20-2007, 08:07 PM ...dramatically from MSU -14 to -11 as of a few minutes ago. Good news Spartan Fans. Everybody is all over ND and Vegas didn't get those bright lights by the public being correct.
Baker 09-20-2007, 08:39 PM Good point. It is something I've paid more attention to this year. In the past, I could care less what the line was. Now I'm starting to realize that those Casinos didn't get built on luck. You ride with Vegas and you'll end up on top in the end. Therefore I love lines heavily favoring my team. Unbelievable how many people are jumping on ND all of a sudden after last week's performance. It was like all of a sudden everybody and their brother started picking ND today.
Clubber Lang give us your prediction for Notre Dame this weekend:

I'm pretty confident in an MSU victory.
bukdow 09-21-2007, 01:34 PM I am worried about the refs being a little too "Catholic". It is obvious ND needs this game and I hope the home-cookin` isn`t too atrocious. Also, I am worried about the ND players playing dirty. Maybe I am being paranoid, but ND is one of those media darlings (ratings/revenue for NBS, etc.) that seems to get a little more providence than they merit. MSU needs to go in there and take control immediately. Blitz the high-heels right off Jimmy the first play from scrimmage. Just smear his face in the grass. MSU is going to have to keep it squeaky clean because any minute infraction will be called, but when an ND player has the ball, murder him.
MSU will be playing ND, the refs, the pretentious celebrity supporters of ND, NBC, etc. Here is to MSU cramming sod down all their throats. !Va El Verde!

Add that ND in 120 years has NEVER started 0-4.....Ouch!!!
bukdow 09-21-2007, 01:37 PM Add that ND in 120 years has NEVER started 0-4.....Ouch!!!
Exactly. You know ND is going to be given every chance to make that not happen. MSU needs to blow this baby open and just pound ND with the running game.

Say, waiter, I'll have that all new Excuse Platter, with a side dish of inferiority complex! Sounds great!
bukdow 09-21-2007, 01:46 PM Say, waiter, I'll have that all new Excuse Platter, with a side dish of inferiority complex! Sounds great!
If you don`t think ND is going to get some extra nods from the refs in this situation (potential 0-4 start, most consecutive losses at home to one team, etc.), you are naive.
Also, getting ribbed about making excuses from a UM bootlick is so rich it is rotting the teeth out of my head.
Zip Goshboots 09-21-2007, 04:19 PM Also, getting ribbed about making excuses from a UM bootlick is so rich it is rotting the teeth out of my head.
BOTH teeth, Tom?
Baker 09-21-2007, 07:57 PM Zip as you know I have encouraged you through pm to always bring heat, but you are now becoming a bit of an idiot. Following B-Diddy by throwing out the inferiority thing every other post is simply to get under the skin of Spartans and it hasn't worked. You sound stupid at 1-2 posting that garbage. On top of that, the whole inferiority crap is real originial. Now Mr. Hypocrite...isn't that what you ripped Bukdow for early and often? Being unoriginal and a troll from another mb? Well that's exactly what you've sounded like of late.
Now for the whole too "Catholic" thing. That was idiotic. If you think they'll get calls, say that. Saying too "Catholic" is stupid. True Catholics are going to be honorable, not shady.
Moodini31 09-21-2007, 08:55 PM Is this really a rivalry? A lifelong horrible team that always beats up on a vastly overrated team that hasn't been relevant since the 80's. I guess the flag planting thing spiced things up a bit.
With that said-
MSU-24
ND-13
Holy fookin' shite! 0-4!

I will take that under advisement.
But be aware of one of the rules of comedy: A good line goes a long way. I don't think I over do it with the inferiority complex, I insert it where it is appropriate.
Trust me, Tre: I know comedy. No one knows The Funny like J Zipperton Goshboots III.
Like I said, though, I WILL take your post very seriously.
Zip Goshboots 09-21-2007, 09:05 PM Tre: Here is an example of a good (but old) joke on bukdow's "too catholic" line:
Now bukdow, if the ref's are going to be "too catholic", then the Spartan Football team is going to need to order some extra Preparation H for the bus ride back to East Lansing.

Easy there hibernator. While you were hiding away listening to Green Day's "Wake me up when September ends," Michigan State was attempting to connect to their history by citing the past and trying to bring that style back.
I'll agree with you that outside of the end of the 80's and the end of the 90's, MSU hasn't been significant during our 20 some years of life. However, as you even mentioned to me, MSU used to be a powerhouse back in the day. You have reason to be critical, but lifelong is a little over the top.
In addition, if you want to talk vastly overrated through the years, toss out 97 and you might just look at the jersey on your back. Don't get me wrong, I'd take Michigan's program. But I don't know if Michigan fans should be calling another team overrated.

I like Tom too. He's a guy who tries alot of different shit on all the forums he trolls. Interesting and entertaining. Fun to rip into, and fun when his pussy hurts and he goes on a rant.
All in all, a fine addition to this forum.
By the way, bukdow won't be scolded, but I hear that he loves to be spanked by men dressed up in gorilla suits.
D's Nuts 09-22-2007, 05:23 PM That had to be the worst 2 minute drill I have seen in my life. Spartans are at the 50 with roughly 2 minutes and cant even manage to get into field goal position. What the hell Dantonio!!!????
Hoyer looks like shit.
Baker 09-22-2007, 05:29 PM After 1st half, I'm realizing that Hoyer is an issue right now. He throws a terrific ball, however missing the mark doesn't make up for a pretty ball. Missed on a sure TD to Dell. Fumbled on own 10. Missed Thomas for a easy TD. He had a pretty bad half. Really, he spotted ND 7 to start the game. You take that away and you've got a 17-7 first half.
I'm telling you, if State can win though it is a MAJOR victory. Before you jump all over me saying ND is bad (you're right) MSU has less talent than ND when it is 1st string versus 1st string. But right now it's ND's first string versus much of MSU's 2nd string. Let's see:
1)WR TJ Williams is playing some corner (Whoa)
2) Because, our #1 DB Kendell Davis Clark is out
3) Starting SS Warrick is out
4) Starting RG out
5) Starting LG out
6) C out
Before the Wolverines play the excuse card. MSU still needs to close this out and win. We have the better team. Just venting, it is frustrating.

I hated the approach. It was like they were satisfied with just getting out of the half up. That's bullshit.
D's Nuts 09-22-2007, 05:51 PM Big time TD pass by Hoyer on the opening drive of the 2nd half.
D's Nuts 09-22-2007, 05:56 PM I hated the approach. It was like they were satisfied with just getting out of the half up. That's bullshit.
This is something I hate seeing. I don't care who you are, you play TO WIN THE GAME. You HAVE to score points when your that close. It seemed very Lloyd Carrish to me
Zip Goshboots 09-22-2007, 07:59 PM Great win for Sparts.
You got to take care of the games you are expected to, and not leave any doubt about it.
Timone 09-22-2007, 08:08 PM Maybe ND should have had Kelly speak instead of Regis.
Tahoe 09-22-2007, 08:42 PM Luckily the sparties played ND so I actually watched part of the game. Normally they are tape delayed and come at midnight Sunday night or something.
darkobetterthanmelo 09-22-2007, 09:31 PM I'm gonna go find someplace to hide for 11 months.
D's Nuts 09-22-2007, 10:00 PM You might want to change "play like a champion today" to "play like you actually give a damn today"

ARE YOU SERIOUS?! EVERYBODY ripped him for his guarantee and many thought his behavior was out of control. You are the minority, not me. And a Notre Dame game doesn't change anything, do you understand that? When I say everybody, I'm talking EVERYBODY around the country. You and a few Michigan fans are the only ones who believed that lame ass guarantee over an 0-2 team wasn't ridiculous. Hart was made fun of for it on nearly every sports talk show and every sports tv show last week. I wasn't wrong about anything in regards to Hart, I was dead on. Even Hart admitted during the game what I said about him, great player that talks waaay too much. He said that himself. Did ya hear it?
I have a problem with a player on a team that's the joke of the college football world guaranteeing victory over an 0-2 pathetic team right after his team was humiliated on their home field.
I think these posts demonstrate the enigma that is tre. The ridiculous over-reaction to all things michigan (the entire country is laughing at him? hart's behavior is out of control? Is he snorting coke and running over people in his car?). After spending the early part of the week reducing michigan's win over ND to utterly meaningless, he still has the balls to call this a major victory for the spartans. The attempt to add a trivial qualifying statement after he says what he really believes (re: I am going to list all the possible excuses a priori, but then say I'm not making excuses. I'm calling this a major victory, but I am saying ND is bad). Seriously, the way tre presented ND after the michigan victory, you would think they were incapable of beating cass tech. I just think it is funny.
Anyways, I am happy for the spartans. I do think the ND victory was a big victory (especially with the early fumble). ND does suck, but road wins in tough environments are important, and dantonio seems to have righted the ship. NW is a guaranteed win and Indiana should be an easy win also. That'll put the spartans in a bowl regardless of the other results, which is better than I expected (though I certainly never said it was impossible). I don't think they have any other easy wins in the other 6 big10 games, but I could see them pulling out a couple wins. If they can get to 4-4 in conference 8-4 overall, it will be a great season.

It's called "HYPOCRISY", and it ravages the soul of the Sparty. And the Sparty ravages the souls of message boards across the nation with it.
Just wat until the UM win over PSU is quantified with statements such as "Penn St laid an egg" "Penn St didn't show up" etc, etc.
And I agree, this was a big win in that MSU took care of bidness. The game was never in doubt, MSU was the better team (with alot more talent) and didn;t fuck around.
HipDigIt 09-23-2007, 10:07 AM Nice to see Penn State come in and lay an egg in the Great Big High School Field. The gutless white stiff and former lead singer of the Quicksilver Messenger Service, Dante Morelli, was just what that juggernaut A2 "D" needed. A bunch of cream cheese adorned in a Vanilla wrapper.
Shocker Penn State doesn't show up for the 9th year in a row. 14-9. Last year it was 17-10 and Morelli couldn't get the skid marks out of his underwear for 3 weeks. Next year how about 10-7? Fucking JoPa, who insists Carr doesn't necessarily have his number, is the only guy I can think of 98.6 (wait better check that) who can "out-vanilla" Carr. I'm just grateful I didn't have to watch this sludge. Of course I may be a tad bitter since it was my only loss of the day so there's that.
Zip Goshboots if your out there nice call on Hart and the "buck-fitty."
HipDigIt 09-23-2007, 10:24 AM I loved the MSU game yesterday. In a masochistic way I loved giving up that TD after the Hoyer fumble early. As a wise man once said, "Weather the storm." They did. The "fumblerooski" was a killer.
A big highlight for me was seeing D,J. Williams out there. This kid is a great athlete. A playmaker, who once out of Dantonio's doggie-house couldn't nudge past the excellent Devin Thomas as the #1 WR. Sooooo, "The Danner" says, "let's line your speedy ass up at CB where we're hurtin'." After 3 days there he was making plays. He'll now join Kellen Freeman-Davis (these guys with their hyphenated names.... Oliver Kendall-Clark....are they gonna' be a bunch of gay actors post Sparty??) for double dippin' duty for the rest of the year. Look, I've got this 4-0 horseshit in perspective. MSU is still the 2nd best team in the State. They've done what, to this point, they should have done. Beat 4 poor to middlin' teams. One of those on hallowed ground in the shadow of "1st Down Jesus!" It was sure nice to see them keep their cool after the rough start and take control of the game on foreign turf for the 1st time this year. Zip, get that fucking book ready. A bowling we will go. Then its' drinks after. MSU will go to a bowl game to.

This is how stupid you are. I said that the win over ND didn't change what I was saying about HART. Keep up or shut the fuck up. You sound like an idiot because you weren't even following the conversation. Why it was big for State was that we had tons of injuries, were playing on the road, were playing in a heated rivalry, we were picked to win 5 games by the experts this year, etc. Much different than a preseason National Title contender playing against bad ND at home. Fucking clown.

Shit, man, he's not gonna put up an avatar of some foxy chick just so you stop PMing him to get a life sized poster of Sam McGuffie to satisfy your sexual desires! Give it up!
WTFchris 09-24-2007, 11:31 AM This is how stupid you are.
What? In one post you say beating ND would be HUGE after already stating that ND is a crap team and beating them means nothing. What kind of rediculous logic is that?
I thought the MSU game was a solid win for them. Didn't really show anything, except that a better coach has them on track each week and they beat the teams they are supposed to.
