is any afraid of riding airplanes now? I only travel to America once a year, but eeach year, there are more and more plane crashes.

BANGKOK, Thailand - A passenger plane heading to one of Thailand's leading tourist destinations crashed Sunday as it tried to land in heavy rain, splitting in two as it was engulfed in flames, officials said. As many as 100 people were feared dead.

There were 123 mostly foreign passengers and five crew members on the plane, One-To-Go Airlines flight OG269 from Bangkok to Phuket, Thai television station TITV reported.

Phuket's Deputy Governor Worapot Ratthaseema told The Associated Press that as many as 100 were killed in the crash of the local budget airline, based on assessments that as few as 20 appeared to have made it out of the wreck alive.

"I believe 90 percent or about 100 passengers are fear dead," Worapot said, adding that Phuket airport in southern Thailand had been temporarily closed.

Chaisak Angsuwan, director general of the Air Transport Authority of Thailand. said the plane crashed in heavy rain and then split in two. It skidded off the runaway and crashed into a wooded area.

"The visibility was poor as the pilot attempted to land. He decided to make a go-around but the plane lost balance and crashed," he said. "It was torn into two parts."

Anchalee Wanitthepphabutr, chief of Phuket's provincial administrative authority, said on TITV that the plane was in flames. The dead and injured were being taken from the plane to several hospitals in Phuket, Anchalee said.

Maj. Gen. Deecha Butnamphet, police chief in Phuket, said on TITV that "we believe that there are many people who are dead. We are taking the dead and injured out from the scene."

One-Two-Go, a budget airline, is owned by Orient Thai Airways.

I have a little fear of flying, I think the thought is in the back of everyone's head, butI would definitely have a fear of flying in a one-two-go airplane.

my worst plane experience was just a few months ago. I was flying back from the west coast (LAX to DTW) and there were some storms in Detroit. I'm used of turbulence, but this was sick. it literally felt like a roller coaster. the plane felt like it was dropping for just a second long enough that the thought of crashing came into my mind. it was so bad that a few people started shrieking when we'd drop, which of course was a chain reaction causing other to scream as well. a couple passengers barfed, of course. i'm usually good on roller coasters, but i was pretty nauseous.

the conditions were bad enough that they wouldn't let us land in DTW, so we made an emergency stop in Flint to refuel. people were pissed (including myself) and wanted to get off in Flint. after that shit, i didn't want to fly again and i would have just gotten off if they had let us.

I'm one to just enjoy the ride if I know I can't do shit about it. Sure I don't want to die, but I save my worry for shit I can't affect.

If I was in a plane that was going down, I'd do one thing I've always wanted to: Bang a hot stewardess while up there, even if she didn't want to.
With my luck, we'd both survive, and I'd end up in jail for rape.

There just isn't that many good looking stewardess' anymore. Anyone agree?

Re: fear of flying

I used to fly a lot for work and didn't even think about it. Now I fly 2 times a year and it bugs me more. There always seems to be a couple of random plane crashes the week before I fly nowadays, just to get me thinking.

Ditto.

Once the wheels leave the ground, you gotta just sit back and make the assumption that the captain wants to live as much as you do.

Well, I think a lot of people just haven't really sat down and worked out their priorities. The way I see it, if the flight is really going to be that rough (roller coaster rough), I'd rather it was canceled or delayed. I know flights get canceled for all kinds of bullshit reasons, but if the weather is going to cause the plane to get beaten like a redheaded stepchild, I'm okay with rescheduling.
