BOSTON, Massachusetts (AP) -- The FBI released photographs and video from Italy on Friday showing a man who closely resembles on-the-run gangster James "Whitey" Bulger, one of the agency's 10 Most Wanted fugitives.

Do you know this man? The FBI wants to know who he is.

A facial recognition analysis to determine if the images were Bulger, 77, and his girlfriend Catherine Greig, 56, was inconclusive, so FBI agents are asking for help from anyone who was in the Sicilian city of Taormina in March, April or May.

The video was taken there on April 10 by someone who believed the two people were Whitey and Greig.

The possible sighting, one of hundreds reported in more than a dozen countries, was first reported in May by WPRI-TV in Providence and The Boston Globe.

The FBI refused to identify the source, but WPRI reported that the person gave the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration two photographs taken in Italy showing a man and a woman who resemble Bulger and Greig.

The DEA turned the evidence over to the Bulger Task Force, based in Boston. FBI agents went to Italy to investigate.

Bulger, the former leader of the notorious Winter Hill Gang, is charged in 19 murders.

He was also an FBI informant, and authorities say he fled in 1995 after his FBI handler tipped him off that he was about to be indicted on racketeering charges. That former agent, John J. Connolly Jr., is now serving a 10-year prison sentence.

Bulger, whose brother was the former state Senate president, apparently planned for life on the run by leaving cash in safe deposit boxes around the world, including Florida, Ireland, England and Canada, authorities said.

The last confirmed sighting of him, according to the FBI, was in London in September 2002. E-mail to a friend

"We have no idea where this so-called Taymelo is, who he is, or if he even exists. No further comment."
