View Full Version : "Count Webber out for Pistons"

Forgone conclusion, methinks.

Count C/PF Chris Webber out of the Pistons' plans. Heading into the offseason, it seemed Webber's choices would be Detroit, Dallas or retirement, but the Pistons have made a commitment to keep minutes open for some of their young big men, including Fs Jason Maxiell and Amir Johnson. That means Webber, who averaged 11.3 points and 6.7 rebounds in 43 games with Detroit last year, won't be going home again. Webber had a brief flirtation with Orlando, but it appears Dallas -- which has done little to its roster besides adding SG Eddie Jones -- has an upper hand. The Mavs could add PF P.J. Brown, too. There is a darkhorse candidate, though, in the market for both players: Phoenix. Yes, no team runs more than the Suns, and, yes, running is not Webber's strong suit these days (it's not Brown's, either), but Phoenix could be setting up a nifty recruiting battle with the Mavs for both Webber and Brown. ...

Beyond McDyess, our rebounding just plain scares me. If we don't get Webber, I really hope Amir can crash the boards.

Webber was not an option once Hayes' signing took us to the tax threshold.

Not that Webber is the answer but the Pistons are really going to be disappointing without a decent C.

Honestly, there aren't that many good 5s in the NBA anymore. When every tiny bit of contact is whistled, what good is it to have a gigantic brick wall of man on the court?

I've been saying for a while, the shit's gonna turn on Stern. What we're coming to is a league likened to the NHL, where the bench is comprised of several skill players, with the rest being nothing more than goons. If you have 3 big guys on the pine who can go out there and play smashball, they can pile up the fouls while leaving your star big man relitively unscathed.

Also, players like Nash and DwAnYnYeWayDe would be less likely to drive knowing they might get the yellow knocked off their teeth in the process.

Just like the good ol' days when guards knew their place on the court.

Your cogency is noticed and appreciated. We've gone from a league where every player has the potential to be a star to a league where only a select few players have the potential to be stars. In the end, how is that beneficial to the league?

It's not... and that's why Stern can lick my sack.

The ghost of Pistol Pete Maravich is going to come and drag Stern to hell, like some shit out of Jacob's Ladder.
