Big Ten Network reaches agreement with Dish Network

The Big Ten Network reached an agreement Thursday with DISH Network that will allow the satellite television provider to broadcast Big Ten Conference games as early as this weekend.
DISH Network expects to show the Akron-Ohio State and Syracuse-Iowa games on Saturday, then launch its high-definition simulcast the following week.
The agreement broadens the reach of the fledgling sports channel, which launched last week, despite not having an agreement with Comcast, Michigan's largest cable provider.
"It's great to add DISH Network to our growing list of distribution partners," Big Ten Network president Mark Silverman said in a written statement. "It offers another important choice for our fans."
DISH Network customers who subscribe to "America's Top 100" and higher will find the Big Ten Network on channel 439.
Customers throughout the nation can preview the network until early 2008, according to a statement from EchoStar Communications, which owns DISH Network.
Silverman did not comment on the status of negotiations with Comcast, which wants to add the network to its lineup, but only premium sports-programming tier that viewers would pay extra for.
The University of Michigan's game against Oregon will be broadcast on ABC on Saturday.

One week too late for me to watch the Michigan game...damn.

just know theyre putting fans first.... i HATE how every journalist writes an article about the greed. jesus christ. give us a LITTLE credit. this is a business negotiation. its all about $$$, yes. but what isnt in sports. i guarantee you whoever writes said "greed" piece isnt writing, nor ever does, for free. it sucks but it will get done, and for my sake i hope its part of the basic package. its not greed, its basic capitalism. the holdout sucks but se la vi.

the "putting fans first" angle does irk me, though.

fwiw...I'm loving the B10 Network. Live games and pretty much instant replays.
