The point wasn't to debate the top 5. It was to prove a point about GWB.

I acutally read something about a panel of political experts and JFK was ranked near the bottom half of the top 10 (maybe 8th i think). They had Lincoln, FDR, Washington, Jefferson and Teddy as their top 5 i think.

the thing about lincoln is that history has judged him favorably of some pretty unforgivable acts (marshall law?). jr should be so lucky that historians take terrorism as seriously as slavery.

and for your fdr quote, it sticks out like a sore thumb with pretty much any jr quote since 9/11 "be afraid!".

Another negative thing that a lot of people point out about Lincoln was the Emancipation Proclamation. If you read it, it doesn't actually free the slaves. It took a Constitutional amendment for that to happen. The Emancipation Proclamation is only an executive order freeing the slaves in states that are in rebellion. There were four slaveholding states that did not rebel (Maryland, Delaware, Missouri and Kentucky) and they got to keep their slaves for the duration of the war. And because the Rebs couldn't be bothered to give a shit about Abraham Lincoln, they didn't observe the Emancipation Proclamation. It was pretty much an exercise in futility. If Lincoln really wanted to take decisive action, he could have freed the slaves in Maryland, Delaware, Kentucky and Missouri. But he was concerned that if those states were forced to free their slaves, they'd join the South, so he gambled on a strategic decision and made what is essentially an empty gesture toward abolitionists.

Another thing that a lot of people point out is that Lincoln himself did not seem to have much love for black people. He had some black friends, but for the most part he found them distasteful. I know this sounds strange, but I think that just makes him an even more amazing President - he was able to disregard his personal prejudices and do the right thing when it needed doing.

It seems impossible now, but once upon a time our leaders wanted us to be happy and confident. That got chipped away gradually and pretty much disappeared by the 1980s.

French Connection is a bit dated and slow by today standards (Edit: to someone watching it today who's never seen it) IMO but I also think it stands up enough to still be a very good movie. His role in Enenmy of the State is just a reprise of The Conversation but with the extra of a bad script and his going over the edge.

There was a time not too long ago where I was pretty much spending days at a time staying at home and smoking weed all day, eating shawarma and Chinese food and watching TV day and night. I'd watch anything I could in English and the only source for something that wouldn't drive me crazy (I'd rather chew broken glass than watch Grey's Anatomy) was Disney shows.

I've seen all five of those shows on that list and, even stoned, I though they all sucked. Did we have shows so blatantly dumbed down for us when we were kids? My only fun was trying to decide if the mom on the twins show was hot or not. My final conclussion was that I would definitely hit it.

Best Disney show stoned is the cartoon Phineas and Ferb.
