View Full Version : OGT: UAB at MSU (9/1/07)

Prediction: MSU 55 UAB 7
Might as well discuss this game since most of us won't be watching U of M vs. App. St.
Baker 09-01-2007, 11:42 AM Thanks for the thread Glenn. Are you serious about that prediction or were you just trying to be funny? 55-7? Boy would I like to see that. I'm guessing State by 17 in this one. I think they'll look sharpe and hard hitting, but I think the offense will sputter a little with Love and TJ Williams (best two WRs) not starting. Should be some jitters for Hoyer. I think Ringer will get 90-100 and Caulcrick will get 65-70.
17 minutes until kickoff and then I can wipe away the bad memories of the JLS era. Go State!
Glenn 09-01-2007, 12:25 PM As I said in Hip's prediction thread, I can see MSU rushing for 400 yards today.
UAB is outmanned, even by a mediocre Big Ten team.
Baker 09-01-2007, 12:30 PM I stand corrected. It is 14-0 after two drives and MSU's offense looks awesome. Ringer and Caulcrick look like a perfect speed and power combo. Hoyer looks sharp as hell.
How cool is the whole student section doing the 300 war chant on 3rd down? goosebumps
Glenn 09-01-2007, 12:37 PM Well, that pretty much locks up the Heisman.
Glenn 09-01-2007, 12:40 PM Nice to see Danny Glover in East Lansing today.
Baker 09-01-2007, 01:03 PM Jehuu 4 TDs and 93 yds with 10 minutes to go in the 2nd quarter.
Best part about it? Him looking into the camera after #4 and saying "We're going to get respect back in EL!"
You know it is always about the little things with coaching. Those little things send a message and create unity. We've heard the "We are one" "One heartbeat" sayings with the Spartans now, well Dantonio's halftime interview spoke volumes about his style. He said he wasn't happy with the way they took the field. Believes they need to come out more unified as one. If you watched after the time ran out in the first half, all coaches stopped the players and made them walk off the field as one big group. I'm absolutely loving it!
Baker 09-01-2007, 02:08 PM UAB wears Addidas.

Glenn 09-01-2007, 02:16 PM Obviously, lol.
Actually, they look like they wear recycled Barcelona Dragons unis.
That safety was downright ugly. About the only blemish so far for MSU.
Baker 09-01-2007, 02:45 PM It kinda sucks when you get up 40, just not the energy for the rest of the game that you like to see. I don't blame them, but I'd like to see some of the young guys do well.
MoTown 09-01-2007, 03:58 PM MSU looked very good today. All around.
Baker 09-01-2007, 04:41 PM Some surprising things I took away from this game. I knew Hawken would play fb, but not start?! I like it. Didn't know Hoyer could be this sharp. I heard Devin Thomas established good chemistry last year with Hoyer, no idea he'd look this good. Anybody catch the Terry Love block on the Caulcrick 40+ TD? Looks like he's ready to do the little things for Dantonio. Is there anybody other than the RBs that will benefit more from the coaching switch than Kellen Freeman Davis? He'll get drafted IMO.
bball11 09-01-2007, 05:04 PM I was very impressed with LB Greg Jones . On special teams he jacked up the return man twice, almost had an Int. and was all over the field. I say Greg J will start by seasons end. Oren Wilson showed up to play too, dominating and controlling his man the whole game. And Kellen Davis had a sack WTF?
D's Nuts 09-01-2007, 06:14 PM While we executed well, let's remember it was UAB who was I think ranked second to last on ESPN.com a while back. It's not like we played a high quality opponent like Appalachian State or anything.

"Money" on the MSU steamroller call. Like a previous poster said UAB barely has a pulse and I'm taking no joy in this one. It's a "W". Hoyer and the team were very workmanlike in their 1st 5 possessions and that's all you can ask. Brightest spot was the fact that other than the inadvertent facemask for 5 yards these guys didn't revert to the sloppy shit of 2 off sides in a row, illegal motion 3 times in a row, late hits out of bounds., delay of game and all the other stupidity that marked the last few years. So that's all good. Probably the best thing of all is that these guys got to hit some peeps that they don't eat across from, and nobody got hurt. Just what the Dr. ordered.
Glenn 09-02-2007, 09:07 AM I agree that you'd be hard pressed to nitpick this one from a Sparty perspective. If you really want to, you can point to them losing the 2nd half 15-10, but that's a bit of a reach when you consider that it was a blowout and that tends to happen sometimes.
I think the jury is still out on this MSU team, but at least they didn't flop in game one and start out the campaign on a sour note. Right, Lloyd?

#31 Ashton Henderson was a pretty heralded CB pick up for MSU. Had he been torched anymore in the 2nd half they'd have swept his fucking cinders into a dustpan. I was aghast.
bball11 09-02-2007, 01:34 PM The only reason they lost the second half 15-10 was because they were playing 3rd string players on down. Hell even their 5th string running back Bret Kahn rushed a couple of times.

Is a bad little shit!! He always impresses me. Imagine if he had the physical skills to go with his heart.

That's why I said it happens in blowouts. Between prevent defense, conservative offensive playcalling and backups on the field, the gap in the score usually closes rather than grows.

I meant to say it in an earlier post, right on. When you posted it, I thought you were joking. Granted, I didn't look into UAB's roster pre game. Didn't know they were so young and small.

Exactly. They could've put up 100 had they wanted to. They called off the dogs a few minutes into the second quarter.
xanadu 09-04-2007, 06:00 AM I just saw the end of the game. That was a clutch field goal to cut the deficit to 37 with time running out.
