The result? 3 runs off of a double that should have been a strike out. Tahoe 08-28-2007, 10:51 PM I've been in and out but it seemed to me we missed a ton of scoring chances. b-diddy 08-29-2007, 01:45 AM was it the 2 runs on 16 hits that made you say that? WTFchris 08-29-2007, 09:27 AM Wait a minute... Timo Perez is back? And batting 3rd, Uhg. I'm getting a little tired of all the lefty righty shit that Leyland does. Why does Casey sit against lefties when he's hitting like .280 against them? I think it's time to stop resting guys. Sit Pudge once a week and put Guillien at 1B once and a while (with Casey at DH). Otherwise leave our good players in there. I think Maybin would have brought back that HR in LF btw. It was barely over the fence and Perez just ran into the wall without even jumping. Tahoe 08-29-2007, 02:37 PM was it the 2 runs on 16 hits that made you say that? lol, actually no. I didn't know that stat. I think it was the 1st and 3rd where we had the bases juiced and when I came back in the 5th, we had like 1 run. The 6 KC put up doesn't bother me as much as the 2 we put up. I don't follow stats but Thames seems like he is our next Monroe. I could be way WAY off on that, but get hot, hit a few dingers than cost us by not getting a single here or there. Pudge needs to rest more. Grandy is going to be burnt by the end of the season. Put CM in center Rayburn in left once in a while. Then again, not sure if we can afford to rest Grandy now that we are 3.5 back. WTFchris 08-29-2007, 02:51 PM Thames is not Monroe, IMO. Thames will battle the count some, rather than just take big swings at every pitch like Monroe. Thames isn't going to bat .300, but he'll at least work the count and occaisonally hit one the opposite way. He can also drive a ball on the outside of the plate where as Monroe could only really pull the ball if it's inside or over the plate. Thames has more power IMO. He does need to up the average a little, but I don't think he's even played a full year in the majors yet (and not because of injuries either) because we had Monroe here. Timone 08-29-2007, 07:05 PM At least his average isn't at Inge's yet. Timone 08-29-2007, 08:22 PM It'll be interesting to see how Miller does in his return and if he can get us a quality start tonight. Timone 08-29-2007, 08:36 PM Fuck Miller tonight. :( b-diddy 08-29-2007, 10:34 PM time to focus on the wc again. indians look to be heating up. all in all its really not feeling like our year. with all these injuries not a whole lot of blame to go around. if sheff is done im wondering if torii hunter is on his way. an offseason bringing in eckstein and hunter would be sweet... assuming sheff decides to retire. Timone 08-30-2007, 02:14 AM My bad, it was both unrealistic and silly for me to expect them to be able to score runs against and beat a team they're supposed to. WTFchris 08-30-2007, 10:28 AM Random notes from Knobler: Doubled up: Granderson finally grounded into a double play Wednesday night, when he hit a hard ground ball to shortstop with Brandon Inge on first base in the fifth inning. It was Granderson's 566th plate appearance, and before it he was the only major-league regular who hadn't grounded into at least one double play. History of futility: It turns out that the Tigers were just the sixth team in the last 50 years to score only three runs with as many as 16 hits in a nine-inning game, which they did in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Royals. The only other time it had been done in the American League was when the 1959 Tigers did it, also in Kansas City. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the Tigers were the first major-league team in eight years to out-hit their opponents by 10 in a nine-inning game and still lose. The last time it happened, the Tigers were the winning team, beating Anaheim 4-3 despite being out-hit 14-4. According to Dave Smith of retrosheet.org, the Tigers hadn't out-hit an opponent by 10 in a loss in at least 50 years. Glenn 08-30-2007, 01:19 PM Today's lineup: C. Granderson cf P. Polanco 2b T. Perez dh M. Ordonez rf C. Guillen 1b M. Rabelo c B. Inge 3b C. Maybin lf R. Santiago ss Wizzle 08-30-2007, 04:27 PM I was disappointed to see that the Royals would be playing the Mudtigers today but it looks like they're getting it done WTFchris 08-30-2007, 04:48 PM Sure hope this gets Bondo back on track. 7 IP and 1 ER was solid. It also looks like his pitch count was low so he probably threw a lot of good pitches (didn't look at the full stats yet). Tahoe 08-30-2007, 05:14 PM Mags 1 rbi short of alltime rbis in August. This will suck if we don't make the playoffs and waste Mags great offensive year. CG made 2 very good to great snags to save doubles down the line at first today. Timone 08-30-2007, 05:38 PM Sure hope this gets Bondo back on track. 7 IP and 1 ER was solid. It also looks like his pitch count was low so he probably threw a lot of good pitches (didn't look at the full stats yet). Yeah, it appears he focused more on pitching efficiently instead of pitching to strike guys out. Timone 08-31-2007, 12:57 AM This sucks. Lately it hasn't mattered if the Tigers won or not, the Indians are hot as hell and don't appear to be slowing down. |
