I hope this doesn't sound too much like a product pitch, but for the last two years, thanks to a relatively cheap product you can get comsumer electronic stores, I've been able to watch any Detroit sports game on TV (for example I just watched the Tigers blow the 9th inning against the Indians).

It's called the slingbox and you can check it out at slingbox.com. You just need cable or satelite and broadband at home. You hook up the box to your cable/satelite box and your router and download the software on any laptop you take with you when you travel. When connected online (from anywhere in the world) you can use the software to connect with your cable box and watch TV. You can even change channels or program your recordings. The quality is decent Internet streaming quality, more than enough to be able to watch the game.

I bought two, one for my parent's house and one for my uncle's. With my PC at home and connected to my TV, I can watch games on my couch (like today). I also have the software on my laptop and have watched Pistons, Tigers and Red Wings games from all around Europe. I've even taken my laptop home and had both boxes going at once for when two Detroit teams are playing at the same time (or if there are two interesting games on at once).

I work in retail sales for consumer electronics here in Spain and actually met the company's VP here in a trade show in Barcelona. I told him that I was without a doubt their number one fan, but at the same time they're ruining my life now that I can watch all these late night sports games.

I had a similar experience. One time, on a six week trek up to Alaska, while driving through British Columbia, and stuck waiting for car repairs way up in some town called Bunghole or something, I was in a hotel and came across DETROIT TV stations 2 and 4. Wow, I hadn;t seen Detroit TV in years, and much to my delight, the Tigers were on. This was in 1991, and I think they sucked back then, and they lost, but it was fun. And I got drunk and nailed an Eskimo. I think.
