View Full Version : Do you need a passport to cross the border to Canada? Matt 08-21-2007, 06:51 PM I haven't been to Canada in a long time....i'm thinking of buying something off of eBay from some dude in Canada and driving to pick it up. Matt 08-21-2007, 07:05 PM if i buy some medium sized piece of furniture in Canada, will i have to pay any dues to bring it across the border? Not sure but make sure there isn't a body stuffed inside or a few kilos of a controlled substance. Vinny 08-21-2007, 07:15 PM How much does it cost? If it's within a certain limit, I think $100-200, just declare it and there's no dues. Just be sure to have proof of cost. My dad goes over 1-2 times a week to see my sister and her kids and they check like 1 in 10 cars randomly so it's not worth messing around with too much. Even though all the guys know him at this point, he still gets pulled aside and car searched every couple months. Matt 08-21-2007, 07:16 PM How much does it cost? Uncle Mxy 08-21-2007, 08:35 PM http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_1082.html Executive summary: You need one if you're flying to Canada, but not if you go by land or sea. "If they do not have a passport, they should be prepared to provide a government-issued photo ID (e.g. Driver's License) and proof of U.S. citizenship such as a U.S. birth or naturalization certificate." I believe the law will change to require a passport even for land and sea crossings in the next couple years, but that's not what it currently is. Zip Goshboots 08-21-2007, 09:35 PM As usual, Moxie is right. I just went to Niagara Falls, and we had to have a picture ID and a berf certificate. Niagara Falls is nice. We took the boat ride, and I did NOT wear a blue poncho. It is my belief that as of March 2008, you will need a passport. Fuck Geoirge Bush and Homeland Security. Fuck 'em in the ear. And fuck anybody who agrees that passports are needed for Canada and Mexico. Fuck anybody who even looks like they agree with Nazi Bush on this one. WTFchris 08-22-2007, 09:06 AM if i buy some medium sized piece of furniture in Canada, will i have to pay any dues to bring it across the border? We bought our bedroom furnature at Coulter's in Windsor (which I highly reccomend BTW). We told them we were from the US and had them deliver it. I don't remember paying any taxes, just the $150 to deliver it. Maybe they had some sort of delivery pass they pay for, don't know. The furnature was the same stuff they sell at Macy's (the company Shermaq is in Canada), and we saved about 400 bucks going to Windsor (and also didn't have to pick it up at Macy's either). I think all they ask you is if you are bringing alcohol, firearms and produce into the country. Sometimes they ask if you simply brought anything back. I suppose it depends on how they word it, but I don't think you have to worry about anything not on the list I mentioned above. |
