View Full Version : OGT: Lions at Browns, pre-season gm #2, Sat 7 pm, UPN/CW/Whateverthefuckit'scallednow
Glenn 08-18-2007, 06:01 AM GAME PLAN: Coach Rod Marinelli said the first-team offense was scheduled to play deep into the second quarter. But if it doesn't get enough work, it could go to the half. Calvin Johnson, the second overall pick of this year's draft, and Shaun McDonald will start at wide receiver. J.T. O'Sullivan will come in after Jon Kitna at quarterback. Dan Orlovsky will finish the game.
The first-team defense is also scheduled to go deep into the second quarter. But if it gets a lot of work early, it could come out earlier. Rookie Ikaika Alama-Francis will start at right defensive end.
"I just want to see him get under pressure, feel it, see what it's like, see how he reacts," Marinelli said.
BEING CAUTIOUS: Several regulars will be held out tonight with minor injuries: defensive end Kalimba Edwards (ankle), wide receiver Mike Furrey (knee), wide receiver Roy Williams (hamstring), kicker Jason Hanson (hamstring), defensive end Dewayne White (groin) and linebacker Teddy Lehman (shoulder).
Zekyl 08-18-2007, 09:35 AM Is this on TV?
MoTown 08-18-2007, 10:18 AM Yup at 7 on UPN/CW/Whateverthefuckit'scallednow.
Glenn 08-18-2007, 10:20 AM Thanks Mo, I'll update the title.
MoTown 08-18-2007, 10:23 AM LOL
Zekyl 08-18-2007, 11:11 AM Fuck. I don't get that channel in Toledo. Its pathetic that I'm in Toledo and I can't watch a Lions-Browns game.
It's even more pathetic that I'd want to...
Glenn 08-18-2007, 11:15 AM With no Roy and no Furrey, CJ should get some significant playing time.
This is also Ron Bellamy's time to shine!
b-diddy 08-18-2007, 02:16 PM is it too early to call this a must win game?
Glenn 08-18-2007, 02:18 PM lol
There's a huge difference between 2-0 and 1-1.
I hope Rod gives his best "Knute Rockne" speech tonight.
Tahoe 08-18-2007, 07:21 PM I can't even find it on a replay. I bought about every package there is and I still miss some pre-season games.
Glenn 08-18-2007, 07:53 PM At this moment I would like to say that I am glad that there is another game to watch over on CBS. Chargers-Rams, I think.
Glenn 08-18-2007, 08:12 PM Charlie Frye is just horrible.
Glenn 08-18-2007, 08:41 PM Just getting this ready for the 2nd half...
:jto:

How is everyone tonight?
Cross 08-18-2007, 11:27 PM Just checking the boxscore, but did CJ not play? His name isn't even there under the receiving section
darkobetterthanmelo 08-18-2007, 11:35 PM he played, troy walters got all the balls
Timone 08-18-2007, 11:53 PM Just checking the boxscore, but did CJ not play? His name isn't even there under the receiving section
He was thrown to a couple times but the ball was either overthrown (as it was in the endzone) or to his feet.
Tahoe 08-19-2007, 09:42 PM Replay of the game is on at 8pm pst on NFL Network.
WTFchris 08-20-2007, 09:57 AM He was thrown to a couple times but the ball was either overthrown (as it was in the endzone) or to his feet.
Yeah, the one play I saw he had a step on someone on a crossing pattern and it was thrown in his feet (where the DB got a hand on his arm). If it was in front of him and at his chest level he had a catch (but probably not for many yards unless he broke a tackle).
Glenn 08-20-2007, 09:59 AM CJ was also open in the end zone on that one TD pass that that one guy caught.
Bah, details.
xanadu 08-20-2007, 11:04 AM I watched the game last night (on mute, while working on my computer). Anyways, the Lions and Browns should play in the preseason every year since the organizations seem pretty comparable in success, a difficult match for the lions. I think the lions defense is in trouble. they never seemed to be able to stop the browns (although penalties, turnovers, and browns' stupidity worked great). I don't think too many other teams will struggle to stop the browns this year (even without turnovers and penalties). If brady quinn turns out to be a good pro quarterback, i'll question whether I have even the most casual knowledge of football.
WTFchris 08-20-2007, 11:36 AM Simms was saying they are holding opponents on the rushing attack (at least first team defense). The CB's are very shaky, but we also have 1/4 of our starting DL right now too (which means the 2nd unit is really the 3rd unit too and so on).
I agree the defense will be weak, but I'd like to see how it performs with all our DL there. All they need to be is average for our offense to win us some games.
Glenn 08-20-2007, 11:42 AM Rob Parker thinks the D will be the strength of the team, making them "respectable instead of laughable" or some shit like that.
At least, that's what his moles and CWPFs are telling him.
Timone 08-20-2007, 12:23 PM Sometimes thinking isn't the strength of Rob Parker.
WTFchris 08-20-2007, 12:26 PM Sometimes?
Timone 08-20-2007, 12:27 PM Well, when he's not debating Skip Bayless.

While I understand this sentiment in theory, I feel like relying on the lions defense to become healthy and stay healthy is a bit of a pipe dream. I think millen goes out of his way to draft and sign (as free agents) guys with known injury risks, who just happen to get injured all the time when they play for the lions. In that way, the lions are like the pacers of the nfl. Always waiting for next year to be healthy. (once again, stanton is a great example)
Interestingly enough, dombrowski built a world series team on guys with major injury risks, so I guess it is possible (for people smarter than millen).

We constantly draft guys that have the "steal" and "I can't believe he fell that far" tag on them and they all constantly get hurt. Boss Bailey's a perfect example. At the time of the draft all the local media said "he should have been a first rounder" etc, but if you looked harder, all alot of other teams were sayingwas that they'd be shocked if he played 3 years in the NFL with that leg. Typical Lions.
